Bimini, The Bahamas: A Tropic Ocean Airways seaplane carrying eight American passengers and two crew members crashed into the water while preparing for departure from North Bimini, Bahamas, on August 1, with all 10 occupants rescued safely in an incident that is now under investigation by Bahamian authorities. According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, the Cessna 208B Grand Caravan seaplane was departing from North Bimini for Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when the accident occurred shortly before takeoff. 10 Rescued After Tropic Ocean Seaplane Crashes During Takeoff Near Bimini

Athens, Greece: A Danish pilot and a Greek fire service liaison officer were killed after two firefighting helicopters collided mid-air while battling a major wildfire west of Athens on Sunday, marking another tragedy as Greece faces multiple fast-moving wildfires amid extreme weather conditions. The collision occurred over the Psatha area near Porto Germeno, west of the Greek capital, where emergency crews were battling a wind-driven wildfire that has been burning since Friday. According to Greek authorities, both helicopters were Bell firefighting helicopters operating on aerial water-dropping missions over the fire zone. Each helicopter carried two crew members. One aircraft crashed following the collision, killing its Danish pilot and a Greek fire service liaison officer. Strong, gusting winds significantly complicated firefighting operations, limiting aircraft movements and, at times, preventing helicopters and water bombers from safely collecting seawater for repeated drops. Nearly 500 firefighters supported by 23 aircraft were deployed to combat the blaze. The fire, which ignited near Agios Vasileios on Friday, spread quickly through dry forests toward Porto Germeno and surrounding mountainous terrain west of Athens. The victims included seven Italian nationals, two Spanish nationals, and two German nationals, along with the two Peruvian flight crew, pilot Américo Salazar and co-pilot Irenka Guanilo del Carpio. Layton, United States: Two people were hospitalized after a small aircraft crash-landed and overturned on a highway in Layton, Utah, late Thursday night, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and a federal investigation into the cause of the accident. According to the Layton Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 11:57 p.m. on July 30 following reports of a plane crash near State Route 193 (Antelope Drive) and Fort Lane, close to Hill Air Force Base in Davis County. The proposal also included higher meal allowances, expanded vacation benefits, annual health-care spending accounts, improved maternity leave provisions, scheduling enhancements, reduced maximum duty periods, additional rest time, and compensation for certain operational disruptions such as reassigned duties and hotel delays. WestJet Group Chief Executive Officer Alexis von Hoensbroech said the airline remained committed to reaching a negotiated settlement, describing the proposal as an industry-leading package that addressed the union's stated priorities while supporting the airline's long-term sustainability. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol provided the update during the Monsoon Session of Parliament on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, in response to questions in the Rajya Sabha. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation's response, the tests were ordered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as part of continuing airworthiness checks after the Boeing 787 aircraft type was grounded in February this year. It also recorded that the aircraft's throttle control module had previously been replaced, although the replacements were unrelated to reported fuel-switch defects. The latest government statement indicates that the structural integrity of the locking detents has now been examined and that no abnormality was identified in that specific component. The continuing inspection of the complete thrust control module is therefore an important remaining part of the technical examination. These accounted for 25 percent of total fatalities and 40 percent of fatal accidents in 2024. Turbulence has also emerged as a key concern, responsible for nearly three-quarters of serious injuries recorded last year. The Asia-Pacific and Europe/North Atlantic regions each reported three fatal accidents, while a single catastrophic crash in South America caused 62 deaths. Overall, Asia-Pacific recorded the highest number of fatalities, followed by South America, then Europe and the North Atlantic. Alongside accident data, ICAO flagged growing risks from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) disruptions, such as jamming and spoofing, which threaten the reliability of modern navigation. The organization is updating guidance and working with member states to protect GNSS integrity, while also strengthening runway safety initiatives, turbulence monitoring, and wildlife strike reporting. ICAO is further developing frameworks for civil-military cooperation to manage risks linked to conflict zones and restricted airspace, and it is preparing safety systems for the integration of unmanned aircraft and advanced air mobility vehicles into shared skies. ICAO leaders underscored that the rise in accidents is a wake-up call for regulators, airlines, and governments worldwide.
