Authorities confirmed that the victims were the two occupants onboard the aircraft, while a family of four inside the house escaped safely without injuries. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft involved was a Piper PA-28 Cherokee, identified in several reports as a 1963 Piper Cherokee. Overall, Asia-Pacific recorded the highest number of fatalities, followed by South America, then Europe and the North Atlantic. Alongside accident data, ICAO flagged growing risks from Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) disruptions, such as jamming and spoofing, which threaten the reliability of modern navigation. The organization is updating guidance and working with member states to protect GNSS integrity, while also strengthening runway safety initiatives, turbulence monitoring, and wildlife strike reporting. The Mixed Commercial Court of Pointe-à-Pitre on April 27, 2026, ordered the immediate cessation of all activities after rejecting multiple takeover proposals submitted during the airline’s restructuring process. The court ruled that none of the offers provided sufficient guarantees to ensure the long-term survival of the company or preserve employment. The liquidation concludes months of financial and operational turmoil for the Guadeloupe-based airline, which had already suspended flights in December 2025 after French aviation authorities grounded the carrier over deficiencies identified during a safety and operational audit. The suspension of the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) halted all commercial activity at the height of the Caribbean tourist season, cutting off the airline’s primary revenue stream. Air Antilles later filed for insolvency with the Pointe-à-Pitre court in January 2026, citing its inability to meet financial obligations following the regulatory suspension. The airline’s shutdown highlights the fragile economics of regional aviation in the Caribbean, where small operators face high operating costs, limited passenger demand, regulatory pressure, and dependence on seasonal tourism traffic. The disappearance of Air Antilles is expected to reduce competition on several routes and could lead to higher fares and reduced connectivity for residents and travelers. Founded in 2002 as Air Antilles Express, the carrier later rebranded as Air Antilles and expanded regional operations using ATR turboprop aircraft and DHC-6 Twin Otters. After the collapse of parent group CAIRE in 2023, the airline was partially revived under a public-private structure backed by the Collectivity of Saint Martin and infrastructure company EDEIS. Tehri Garhwal, India: A potential tragedy was averted in Uttarakhand on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, after a helicopter carrying Char Dham pilgrims from Badrinath to Dehradun made an emergency landing in Tehri Garhwal district following a mid-air technical problem and contact with a high-tension power line. The Bell 407 helicopter, operated by Trans Bharat Aviation, was carrying seven people, including the pilot. Officials confirmed that all passengers survived without injuries. According to officials from the Uttarakhand administration and disaster management authorities, the incident occurred between approximately 8:30 am and 9:30 am while the helicopter was flying over the Chamba–Arakot sector in Tehri district. The aircraft had departed from Badrinath Dham and was en route to Dehradun. Authorities said the helicopter encountered severe downdraft conditions and sudden localized weather turbulence in the valley region. During the emergency maneuver, the rear section of the aircraft reportedly struck a high-tension electricity transmission line before the pilot managed to bring the helicopter down safely in agricultural fields near the Satyo–Saklana and Nawagaon area of Tehri Garhwal district. The District Magistrate of Tehri, Nikita Khandelwal, said that the helicopter made the landing after encountering sudden localised weather turbulence.“While landing, the rear end collided with the power line. However, the tourists have been sent to Dehradun while the helicopter flew back for maintenance,” she added. The power line of a 33 KV line high-tension wire. Passengers were devotees from a single family based in Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh area. Passengers were identified as Son Raj Suri, Shriraj Suri, Bhumi Suri, Parth Suri, Himanshi Patel, and Nishka. Immediately after the emergency landing, teams from local police, district administration, SDRF-linked authorities, and disaster management officials rushed to the site and initiated rescue and safety operations. The passengers were later transported safely to Dehradun by road taxi services. Officials confirmed that a detailed technical and aviation investigation has been launched into the incident. The Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority said standard regulatory inspections and technical examinations are being conducted in coordination with aviation authorities and the helicopter operator. Last Year on June 15, 2025, an Aryan Aviation helicopter flying from Kedarnath to Guptkashi crashed near Gaurikund in Rudraprayag district, killing all seven people onboard, including the pilot and a 23-month-old child. Preliminary reports linked the crash to poor weather, low visibility, and difficult flying conditions in the Himalayan region. Following the tragedy, Uttarakhand authorities temporarily suspended Char Dham helicopter operations and ordered stricter safety reviews.
