Two Killed, One Injured In Hughes 500 Forestry Helicopter Crash In British Columbia

Harrietstown, United States: Three people were killed after a twin-engine Piper Aerostar crashed into a wooded area moments after departing Adirondack Regional Airport in northern New York late Monday night, marking the third aircraft accident reported in the Adirondacks within a week and prompting an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). According to the New York State Police, the aircraft involved was a 1976 Piper Aerostar, a high-performance twin-engine airplane. Preliminary information indicates the aircraft departed Adirondack Regional Airport in Harrietstown at approximately 10:36 p.m. EDT on July 13, 2026. Shortly after becoming airborne, while climbing to an estimated altitude of only 100 feet above the ground, communication with the aircraft was lost. State Police said they were notified at approximately 11:15 p.m. of a downed aircraft near Hearf's Way and State Route 186, close to the airport. A multi-agency search operation involving state troopers, local emergency responders and other agencies was immediately launched to locate the missing airplane. Search crews later located the wreckage in a heavily wooded area between McMaster Road and State Route 186, northwest of Saranac Lake. Officials said the aircraft had been destroyed by the impact and a subsequent post-crash fire, leaving little of the airplane intact. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft was carrying three people, the pilot and two passengers and that all three died in the crash. 3 Killed After Piper Aerostar Crashes Shortly After Takeoff In New York Adirondacks

Two Killed, Two Seriously Injured After Light Aircraft Crashes In Lower Austria

New Delhi, India: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has imposed a penalty of ₹1 lakh (US$1,160) on SpiceJet Limited for using deceptive digital design practices, commonly known as dark patterns, on its flight booking platform. The authority concluded that the airline's booking interface violated consumer protection laws by enrolling users into services and obtaining marketing consent without their explicit approval. The order was issued by the CCPA, headed by Chief Commissioner Nidhi Khare and Commissioner Anupam Mishra, following an examination of the airline's online booking process. According to the authority, SpiceJet's practices breached provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, Rule 4(9) of the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, and the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 2023. The CCPA found that consumers booking flights on SpiceJet's platform were automatically enrolled into the SpiceClub Loyalty Programme through a pre-ticked checkbox, without actively opting into the service. It also observed that customers were treated as having agreed to receive promotional communications because the default option for marketing messages had already been selected, requiring no affirmative action from users. According to the authority, even after it issued a notice to the airline, SpiceJet modified the booking interface by replacing the original mechanism with another pre-ticked checkbox for receiving future promotional messages through text messages, WhatsApp and email. The CCPA held that this effectively continued the same practice in a different form rather than eliminating the issue. During the proceedings, SpiceJet stated that the issue had occurred because of a technical error. The airline was subsequently directed to provide an undertaking confirming that the required corrective measures had been implemented and would remain in place permanently. In its order, the CCPA identified multiple categories of prohibited dark patterns on the airline's booking platform. It said the automatic enrolment into the SpiceClub Loyalty Programme through a pre-selected checkbox amounted to "Forced Action." It further held that presenting the company's preferred option as the default selection constituted "Interface Interference", as it influenced consumer decision-making. The authority also found that the use of confusing and negatively worded consent language had the potential to mislead users, classifying it as a "Trick Question." The authority stated that "such practices impair consumer autonomy, undermine informed decision-making and are inconsistent with the principles of fair and transparent consumer engagement." The CCPA further concluded that SpiceJet's conduct amounted to unfair trade practices, unfair contracts and misleading representations under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. It also ruled that the airline had violated Rule 4(9) of the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020, which requires consumer consent to be obtained only through explicit and affirmative action, as well as the Guidelines for Prevention and Regulation of Dark Patterns, 2023. Reiterating the legal standard for obtaining consumer consent, the order states that "consumer consent must always be explicit, informed and freely given. Consent obtained through pre-ticked checkboxes, default settings or deceptive interface design is not valid and is contrary to consumer welfare and the provisions of law." The authority also reaffirmed its regulatory approach towards digital commerce, stating that "CCPA remains committed to protecting consumer rights and ensuring that digital platforms conduct business in a fair, transparent and consumer-centric manner." New Delhi, India: India is considering a policy change that could allow airport operators to own and operate airlines, potentially opening the door for major airport companies such as Adani Group and GMR Airports Ltd. to establish their own carriers. Under the existing rules, operators of airports in Delhi and Mumbai are barred from holding more than a 10% stake in any airline. Montreal, Canada: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has sounded a strong warning on global air safety, highlighting rising accident rates as flight activity reaches record levels. In its latest State of Global Aviation Safety report released this month, the UN aviation agency revealed that 2024 saw 95 accidents involving scheduled commercial flights, compared with 66 the previous year. Of these, 10 were fatal, resulting in 296 deaths, an alarming jump from 72 in 2023. The global accident rate also rose to 2.56 per million departures, up from 1.87 the previous year. While ICAO stressed that aviation remains the safest form of travel, the organization called for urgent international action to address mounting risks as passenger demand continues to grow worldwide. ICAO’s data show that the most significant accident categories included controlled flight into terrain, loss of control in flight, mid-air collisions, and runway incursions. These accounted for 25 percent of total fatalities and 40 percent of fatal accidents in 2024.
