The FAA alleges that Southwest did not fully comply with these requirements. The case highlights broader regulatory concerns around compliance oversight in safety-critical roles. FAA regulations impose strict limits, including a maximum blood alcohol level of 0.04% for pilots and mandatory waiting periods before duty, reflecting the high safety stakes in commercial aviation.
