New Jersey, United States: An Air Canada Express flight bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, was forced to divert to Boston on Wednesday after the aircraft’s captain suffered a serious medical emergency while the flight was airborne, prompting an emergency response from crew members, passengers and aviation authorities. The incident occurred aboard Air Canada Express Flight AC7664, operated by regional carrier PAL Airlines using a De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprop aircraft. According to Air Canada, the flight departed Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey at approximately 12:55 p.m. EDT on June 24 and was scheduled to operate a routine service to Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia. The aircraft was carrying 61 passengers. Air Canada said the captain experienced a medical issue during the flight and was removed from the flight deck in accordance with established safety procedures. The first officer immediately assumed control of the aircraft and initiated a diversion to Boston Logan International Airport. The airline emphasized that pilots are trained to safely operate and land aircraft independently if circumstances require. Flight-tracking data reviewed by multiple media outlets showed the aircraft had been airborne for roughly an hour when the diversion occurred. Data indicated the aircraft began descending approximately 30 minutes after departure before proceeding toward Boston. The flight, which normally takes about two hours and 15 minutes, did not continue to Halifax as planned. Passengers Describe Sudden Mid-Air Emergency. Several passengers later described a dramatic sequence of events inside the cabin. Passenger Rodney McDonald told ABC News that the situation became apparent when the aircraft suddenly swerved during flight. According to McDonald, the movement did not resemble turbulence and instead felt as though the flight controls had been abruptly disturbed multiple times. "The moment the plane swerved, I knew something was wrong because it was not turbulence," he told ABC News. McDonald said concern quickly spread through the cabin, with passengers fearing a potentially serious emergency. He recalled his children immediately beginning to pray as uncertainty grew over the aircraft's condition. The situation escalated when, according to passenger accounts, a flight attendant rushed into the cockpit before emerging with one of the pilots. McDonald said cabin crew members appeared to be struggling with the incapacitated pilot and requested assistance from passengers. Several travelers responded. Passenger Elizabeth Akinyemi told ABC News that the captain appeared to be suffering what looked like a seizure. She said the medical episode continued for approximately 40 minutes. Witnesses reported that the pilot displayed erratic behavior and at times attempted to return to the cockpit while experiencing the medical event. McDonald said he and approximately four other passengers helped crew members restrain the captain in the cabin while the first officer continued flying the aircraft toward Boston. No injuries among passengers were reported safe Landing In Boston. The first officer successfully diverted and landed the aircraft at Boston Logan International Airport at approximately 2 p.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration later confirmed that Air Canada Flight 7664 landed safely after the crew reported a pilot medical emergency. Massachusetts State Police said authorities were notified at approximately 1:37 p.m. that a crew member had suffered a medical emergency and that the aircraft was being flown by the co-pilot. State police patrol units and a marine unit responded as a precaution ahead of the aircraft's arrival. Television footage from Boston showed emergency vehicles surrounding the aircraft shortly after landing. Massport Fire Rescue personnel and Boston EMS crews met the aircraft on the runway. Video and aerial footage captured emergency responders bringing a stretcher to the aircraft before transporting the pilot from the airplane. The captain was subsequently taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment. Officials have not publicly disclosed the pilot's identity, medical condition or the precise nature of the medical emergency. Passengers Continue Journey. Following the safe landing, Air Canada said it began making alternate travel arrangements for affected passengers. The passengers were expected to continue their journey to Halifax later the same day. The FAA has not announced any formal investigation beyond its standard review procedures associated with in-flight medical emergencies.

Air Canada Flight Diverts To Boston After Captain Becomes Incapacitated Mid-Flight

Liverpool, United Kingdom: A former commercial airline pilot who exploited his position and traveled hundreds of miles to assault a 12-year-old child has been sentenced to eight years and four months in prison. Kwame Yeboah, a 30-year-old former British Airways First Officer residing in Reading, pleaded guilty to three counts of rape of a girl under the age of 13 and one count of sexual assault. The sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court on June 24, 2026 follows a disturbing grooming campaign that began online late last year. According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), contact between Yeboah and the victim was initiated on Instagram in late 2025. During their early digital correspondence, the victim initially claimed she was 17 years old. However, prosecutors established that Yeboah would have quickly realized her true age as their conversations progressed. "Kwame Yeboah would have known early on in his contact with this child that she was not the age she initially claimed to be," said Thomas Hanlon, Senior Crown Prosecutor. "She spoke about school and sent images of herself in school uniform." Despite these clear indications, Yeboah continued to message the child. Over the subsequent months, he established a routine of calling her twice a week, using manipulation to make her believe she was in a meaningful relationship. The CPS noted that Yeboah sent intimate photographs of himself as the interactions became increasingly explicit and sexualized. The grooming escalated to physical contact in February, when Yeboah traveled from his home in Berkshire to Wirral, Merseyside, a journey spanning hundreds of miles. Upon arrival, he picked up the 12-year-old girl, drove her to an isolated location, and assaulted her three times inside the vehicle. Statements provided to Merseyside Police indicated that the child struggled to process the severity of the incident at the time, reporting feelings of extreme nervousness and confusion. The abuse came to light days later when the victim confided in a friend, who subsequently informed her mother. Merseyside Police launched an immediate investigation, identifying Yeboah through personal details and contact information he had provided to the victim. Following his arrest, Yeboah maintained a "no comment" stance during all police interviews. Facing overwhelming evidence, he ultimately entered guilty pleas to all charges. In addition to his custodial sentence of eight years and four months, the court imposed a 15-year restraining order to protect the victim and prevent further contact. "He groomed the victim into believing she was in a relationship with someone who cared about her," Hanlon stated following the hearing. "In reality, he was an adult man who abused his position and exploited her for his own sexual gratification." Public profiles indicate that Yeboah had been employed by British Airways as a First Officer since 2023, following an extensive training period in commercial aviation. He was also heavily involved in the domestic sports community, having spent more than 17 years playing and refereeing under Basketball England.

British Airways Pilot Sentenced To Over 8 Years For Grooming & Raping 12-Year-Old Girl

Caracas, Venezuela: Venezuelan authorities declared a nationwide state of emergency after two powerful earthquakes struck the country within seconds of each other on June 24, triggering widespread destruction across Caracas and several surrounding regions, forcing the closure of the nation's main international airport and launching a large-scale search-and-rescue operation. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck approximately 160 kilometers west of Caracas near Morón, followed just 39 seconds later by a stronger magnitude 7.5 tremor. Seismologists described the event as a rare seismic doublet. More than 20 aftershocks were recorded in the hours that followed. The earthquakes caused extensive damage across the capital and nearby states, with multiple residential and commercial buildings collapsing, roads and transportation infrastructure disrupted, and emergency crews deployed throughout affected areas. Interim President Delcy Rodríguez announced a state of emergency during a televised address alongside National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez and Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello. While extending condolences to families of those killed, Rodríguez did not provide an official nationwide death toll or injury count, saying authorities were still assessing the scale of the disaster. The closure of Simón Bolívar International Airport in Maiquetía, Venezuela's primary international gateway serving Caracas, emerged as one of the most significant impacts on the country's transportation network. The review assumes heightened significance following a turbulent period for Indian aviation, marked by a series of operational disruptions, infrastructure failures and fatal accidents that have triggered concerns over the effectiveness of regulatory oversight in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets. According to reports, the FAA assessment will examine whether the DGCA continues to meet international safety oversight standards established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The audit focuses on the capabilities of the regulator rather than the performance of individual airlines. The upcoming review follows what industry observers have described as one of the most challenging periods for Indian aviation in recent decades. Among the major events cited are the fatal Air India Boeing 787 crash in Ahmedabad, multiple helicopter accidents in Uttarakhand, a significant failure of Delhi’s air traffic control systems and the widespread operational disruption experienced by IndiGo in December 2025. The outcome of the November review is expected to be closely watched by airlines, aircraft manufacturers, lessors and international aviation stakeholders. Beyond its immediate impact on air services between India and the United States, the assessment is widely viewed as a test of the strength and maturity of India’s aviation regulatory framework at a time when the country is positioning itself as a major global aviation hub.

FAA To Assess India’s DGCA Under Aviation Safety Oversight Review In November

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia: A Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore was delayed by nearly six hours on June 21 after the aircraft operating an earlier sector suffered a tyre-related incident upon arrival in Malaysia, marking the second such occurrence involving the same route this month. According to Singapore Airlines, two tyres on a Boeing 737-8 operating Flight SQ114 from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur deflated after landing at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on June 21. The incident occurred after the aircraft had completed its arrival into Kuala Lumpur. There were no reports of injuries. Because the aircraft could not continue normal operations, it was towed to a remote parking bay. All 152 passengers and eight crew members onboard SQ114 disembarked via buses and were transported to the terminal. The affected aircraft had been scheduled to operate the return service, Flight SQ113, from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore later the same day. However, the tyre damage rendered the aircraft unavailable, forcing Singapore Airlines to dispatch a replacement aircraft from Singapore. As a result, SQ113, carrying 143 passengers and eight crew members, departed Kuala Lumpur at 8:27 p.m. local time instead of its scheduled 2:35 p.m. departure. The flight subsequently arrived in Singapore at 9:38 p.m. Passengers received multiple delay notifications throughout the afternoon. According to reports, the airline initially advised travelers that the departure had been postponed until 4:35 p.m. due to technical issues affecting the incoming aircraft. The flight was later delayed again, with Singapore Airlines citing adverse weather conditions in Singapore for the final postponement. Affected passengers were provided with refreshments, snack packs, meal vouchers and assistance with onward travel arrangements, including rebooking of connecting flights where necessary. Singapore Airlines apologized for the disruption, stating that passenger and crew safety remains its highest priority. The airline also confirmed that the damaged tyres had been replaced and that the aircraft would return to service after the necessary maintenance actions. The June 21 occurrence follows another tyre-related incident involving the same Singapore-Kuala Lumpur service on June 13. On that occasion, Flight SQ114, also operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8, experienced a double tyre burst during landing at KLIA at approximately 1:27 p.m. local time. Investigations and technical assessments are expected to determine whether the tyre failures resulted from operational factors, runway conditions, foreign object debris, maintenance issues, manufacturing defects or other causes.
