Malé, Maldives: A Boeing 737 MAX 8 belonging to flydubai was damaged on 4 December 2025 after a ground‑services fuel truck struck the aircraft while it was parked at Velana International Airport (MLE), the airline confirmed. The aircraft registration A6‑FMM, operating flight FZ1025 from Dubai (DXB) had just arrived in Malé when the collision occurred on the apron during routine ground handling at approximately 08:50 local time. Reports indicate that the lower left‑hand winglet sustained damage. flydubai swiftly confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely, with no injuries, fuel spillage or fire risk reported. The airline said affected travellers have been re‑accommodated on the next available flights while the damaged aircraft undergoes inspection and repair. The next scheduled leg, a flight from Malé to Colombo, was cancelled as a result of the incident. Authorities at the Maldives airport are expected to launch a formal investigation into the incident, focusing on apron safety protocols, ground‑handling procedures and vehicle movement controls around parked aircraft. flydubai reiterated that the “safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority at all times.” The aircraft will remain grounded until repairs are completed and regulatory standards for airworthiness are satisfied. On 28 November 2025 a Emirates Airbus A380‑842 at Manchester Airport (UK) was struck by a fuel‑truck while parked at a gate, during routine turnaround after arrival from Dubai. The collision damaged the cowling of the engine intake though there was no fuel leak, fire or injuries and forced cancellation of the return flight EK18 to Dubai. The aircraft remained grounded for inspections and repairs, and took off again on 30 November for flight EK20 to Dubai, signalling the damage was deemed repairable.

As per IndiGo's website, the airline operates well over 2,200 daily flights. Government data from Wednesday shows the airline’s on-time performance plunging to just 19.7%, a dramatic fall for a carrier long associated with punctuality. This implies that over 1,767 flights were delayed on that day alone. The turbulence continued and on Wednesday airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad collectively reported 200 flight cancellations by afternoon, in addition to hundreds of delayed departures and arrivals. The combined impact of delays and cancellations caused widespread disruption for domestic travellers, leaving passengers stranded, scrambling for alternatives, and highlighting the operational strain on the airline’s network. Official airport punctuality data on 3rd December shows a stark contrast between IndiGo and other domestic airlines: IndiGo: 19.7% Alliance Air: 68.0% Air India: 66.8% Akasa Air: 67.5% Air India Express: 69.9% SpiceJet: 68.70% The disruptions are evident from the airline’s on-time performance (OTP) data; merely 19.7% on Wednesday, 35% of the IndiGo flights operated on time on Tuesday, while the figure was around 50% on Monday, as per the Ministry of Civil Aviation. IndiGo’s OTP typically used to be upwards of 80% prior to the second phase of the new FDTL norms taking effect in November. Aviation industry officials attribute the crisis primarily to a severe shortage of pilots and cabin crew, which has worsened following the enforcement of revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms. The updated rules require stricter rest periods, reduced night operations, and tighter rostering limits, significantly shrinking the pool of available crew for daily operations. In addition to crew constraints, airport congestion, winter fog disruptions in north India, and internal operational realignments further compounded the stress on the airline’s network, according to aviation sources. The disruption led to multiple delays stretching into several hours, and in many cases, short-notice cancellations, forcing passengers to look for alternative routes or remain stranded at airports. Social media platforms were flooded with complaints highlighting missed connections, lack of timely communication, and prolonged waiting at check-in counters and boarding gates. Several travellers reported delays exceeding four to six hours, while others were informed of cancellations only after reaching the airport. Business travellers and holiday passengers alike were impacted during what is traditionally a high-demand travel period. IndiGo acknowledged the disruption and attributed it to a combination of crew unavailability and operational challenges. In a public advisory, the airline urged passengers to check real-time flight status before heading to the airport and assured customers that rebooking or full refunds would be provided in accordance with company policy. Beijing, China: Air China and Rolls-Royce have completed their USD 315 million engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Beijing, marking a major expansion of Rolls-Royce’s service network in mainland China. The joint venture, Beijing Aero Engine Services Ltd (BAESL), will induct its first engine in December 2025, with full commercial operations scheduled for early 2026. The Beijing site will overhaul Trent 700, Trent XWB-84, and Trent 1000 engines, which power A330, A350 and Boeing 787 fleets operated by Chinese carriers. Rolls-Royce said BAESL is designed as a “digitally enabled, next-generation” shop with advanced tooling and automation. According to official Beijing investment authorities, the facility spans more than 80,000 sq. m and will employ up to 800 staff once fully ramped up. It is expected to reach an annual capacity of 250 engine shop visits by the mid-2030s. This is Rolls-Royce’s first MRO joint venture on mainland China and its fourth globally, complementing HAESL in Hong Kong, SAESL in Singapore, and N3 in Germany. For Air China, the project strengthens domestic overhaul capability for high-thrust wide-body engines, reducing dependency on overseas shops. Air China executives said the facility will support the “industrialisation and localisation” of China’s engine maintenance ecosystem. Rolls-Royce leaders noted that China’s expanding wide-body fleet with nearly 600 Trent engines in service requires long-term, locally available maintenance capacity. BAESL is situated in Shunyi District, inside the Beijing Capital International Airport Economic Zone. Infrastructure includes overhaul bays, advanced engine testing facilities, parts warehousing and digital monitoring centres. With the JV now structurally complete, Rolls-Royce and Air China will begin progressive operational readiness checks before the first Trent engine arrives later this year. The agreement, signed on October 27, 2025, positions Falcon as one of the first regional operators preparing large-scale deployment of eVTOL platforms for industrial and mobility missions. The order includes 15 V2000CG “CarryAll” cargo aircraft and 35 V2000EM “Prosperity” passenger aircraft, with the first deliveries expected by the end of 2025. Falcon intends to use the fleet to support operations for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), signalling a shift towards low-emission, high-efficiency aerial support in the energy sector. AutoFlight’s cargo model, the CarryAll, has already achieved a full suite of airworthiness approvals from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) including the Type Certificate, Production Certificate and individual Airworthiness Certificates. AutoFlight is working toward passenger-operation certification in multiple jurisdictions, a process that will determine the pace of Falcon’s full-scale rollout in the UAE. The chartered aircraft, an Embraer ERJ-145 operated by Airjet Angola (registration D2-AJB), was on a flight (MBC-100) from Lubumbashi to Kolwezi when it veered off runway 29 during landing and caught fire. According to the bureau of aircraft accident archives, both main landing gears were reportedly sheared off as the airplane came to a halt, and the tail section ignited. All 26 passengers and 3 crew evacuated; there are no reported fatalities or serious injuries. Initial reports suggest the aircraft touched down before a displaced threshold on runway 29, which was under maintenance. The Notam issued for Kolwezi Airport indicated that 1,000 metres of the runway were being resurfaced, reducing the effective landing distance. According to the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives, this could have contributed to the gear collapse. Eyewitnesses and social media footage show thick smoke rising from the rear fuselage as passengers escaped, some via overwing exits. Isaac Nyembo, communications adviser to Minister Kabamba, said around 20 people were evacuated before the fire spread, though luggage was damaged. Concerns have also been raised over emergency response readiness at Kolwezi Airport. No fire trucks arrived for several minutes, despite the airport being categorized to require rapid rescue capability. Minister Kabamba and his delegation were heading to Kalondo, near Kolwezi, following a recent mining accident in which over 30 workers died in a bridge collapse. The delegation was expected to assess the damage, console affected families, and coordinate government support. An investigation has been launched by the DRC’s aviation authority (BPEA) into the cause of the runway excursion and fire. Kolwezi Airport, located in Lualaba Province, has a single asphalt runway (11/29), around 2,410 metres long. Aviation experts have pointed out that infrastructure challenges, such as runway maintenance, coupled with limited firefighting capacity, may pose ongoing safety risks.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The Middle East is set for one of the fastest expansions in global aviation, with Airbus projecting more than 265,000 new jobs across the sector over the next 20 years. The forecast, released ahead of the Dubai Airshow cycle, highlights the region’s accelerating demand for pilots, technicians, and cabin crew as airlines expand fleets and long-haul networks. Airbus estimates the need for 69,000 pilots, 64,000 aircraft technicians, and almost 132,000 cabin crew by 2044. The hiring surge aligns with a major increase in aircraft operating in the region. The in-service fleet, currently around 1,480 aircraft, is expected to grow to 3,700 within two decades. Wide-body aircraft will make up 42% of future fleet requirements, more than double the global average. The commercial aviation services market, covering maintenance, training, operations, and air traffic management, is projected to reach US$ 30 billion over the same period. Passenger traffic is forecast to grow at a 4.4% compound annual rate, driven by population growth, expanding tourism, and rising regional trade. Airbus also notes that the Middle East’s population is expected to increase by nearly 240 million people by 2044, further boosting air-travel demand. Airbus executives say the region’s geographic advantage and growing airline networks position it as a future global connector. “The Middle East is becoming the long-haul hub now and into the future,” said Gabriel Semelas, the company’s president for Africa and the Middle East, citing the strong long-range fleet requirements throughout the Gulf. Independent economic studies also highlight how central aviation has become to the region’s future. An Oxford Economics report commissioned by Emirates Group and Dubai Airports shows the sector supported 631,000 jobs in Dubai in 2023 and contributed AED 137 billion to the emirate’s GDP. By 2030, aviation-linked employment is expected to rise to 816,000 jobs, representing nearly one in four positions in Dubai. The ongoing expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport is expected to generate 132,000 additional jobs and contribute more than AED 6.1 billion to Dubai’s GDP by the end of the decade. Training academies, maintenance providers, and regulatory authorities will need to scale rapidly to match the demand. The region’s major carriers including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Saudia have already begun large recruitment drives, signalling strong near-term hiring momentum even before long-term growth peaks. The Airbus forecast signals a sustained phase of expansion for Middle Eastern aviation, positioning the region as a global employment engine and one of the most influential long-range aviation markets worldwide.
