Orsk, Russia: Three people, including two aviation cadets and their instructor, were killed on Monday when a training aircraft crashed during a routine flight near the city of Orsk in Russia’s Orenburg Region, authorities confirmed. The aircraft, identified as a Diamond DA-series trainer operated by the St. Petersburg State University of Civil Aviation, disappeared from radar around 10:40 a.m. local time before crashing near the settlement of Dzhanatalap. Preliminary information from local officials indicates that two university students and an instructor were on board the aircraft at the time of the incident. All three occupants died on impact. According to Russian media sources citing operational services, the individuals have been provisionally identified as the pilot, Vasily N. (born 1989), and cadets Timofey K. (born 2005) and Dmitry S. (born 2004). Rescue teams from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) were dispatched immediately after the aircraft went down. This helped return both parent and consolidated equity to positive territory by the end of the year. The airline contributed VND 3.29 trillion to the State budget, a 5 percent year-on-year increase, underscoring its expanding role in supporting Vietnam’s broader economic recovery and growth. Looking ahead, Vietnam Airlines plans to build on the momentum of 2025 by enhancing operational efficiency and financial performance. For 2026, the carrier is targeting: 29.07 million passengers, a 13.2 percent increase over 2025. Hyderabad, India: Asia’s largest civil aviation exhibition, Wings India 2026, ended on a high note this week with a string of strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and partnership deals that reinforce India’s ambition to deepen domestic aerospace manufacturing, expand skills and training infrastructure, and strengthen regional connectivity. Indian conglomerate Adani Defence & Aerospace and Brazil’s Embraer S.A. signed a landmark MoU to collaborate on establishing a regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India. The agreement focuses on jointly developing an aircraft assembly capability and related aerospace supply chain and services. Under the framework: A regional aircraft final assembly line is to be set up in India. Cooperation will extend to aftermarket support, pilot training and progressively increasing local content in production. Financial terms, production timelines, specific aircraft models or the location of the facility have not been disclosed in the initial MoU. At the show, Flamingo Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. signed an agreement with United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) of Russia for the delivery of six Ilyushin IL‑114‑300 regional turboprop aircraft. The deal targets India’s domestic regional connectivity market and represents a step towards operationalising heavier regional aircraft within the UDAN framework. The aircraft, seating approximately 68 passengers, are slated for delivery beginning in 2028. The pact includes collaboration on certification, entry‑into‑service preparations and training. Vadim Badekha, CEO, UAC, said India is central to the company’s civil aviation ambitions. “We consider that the Indian market has great potential for us. And a key factor in achieving success is being a part of the Make in India programme,” he said. Stressing the depth of the proposed industrial partnership, Badekha added, “That’s very important, that it’s not just the supply, just the sale of the aircraft, but the joint production of them in India India’s regional carrier FLY91 and aerospace engineering firm Timetooth Technologies signed an MoU to jointly develop and supply indigenously designed, DGCA‑certified aircraft passenger seats. The aim is to support localisation of cabin interiors for FLY91’s ATR 72‑600 fleet. The agreement covers design, prototyping and certification work, aligning with the government’s Make in India initiative. The Government of Odisha signed two separate MoUs at Wings India 2026 to bolster aviation infrastructure and technological capabilities in the state. Flying Training Organisation (FTO): An MoU with Alchemist Aviation will enable the establishment of an FTO at Dandbose Airport in Mayurbhanj district, with a planned annual capacity to train approximately 50 commercial pilots. UAV Training and Testing Centre: Another agreement with BonV Aero will lead to Odisha’s first UAV (drone) training and testing facility at Rangeilunda Airstrip in Ganjam district, expected to train more than 100 UAV pilots annually. Both initiatives are part of Odisha’s strategy to upskill youth and integrate drone technologies into agriculture, logistics, infrastructure and disaster response sectors. Heritage Aviation Pvt. Ltd. also signed a contract for an Airbus H130 helicopter during the event. To support this rapid growth, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) partnered with Airports Council International (ACI) to launch a professional accreditation program. Over the next five years, more than 115 Indian aviation professionals will be trained to meet global leadership standards, ensuring that India's airport management remains world-class. Royal Thai Air Force Training Aircraft Crashes In Chiang Mai, Two Pilots Killed

Plane Crashes During Emergency Landing At Baramati, DCM Ajit Pawar, 4 Others Killed

Dhana, India: A preliminary investigation report released by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has detailed how a Cessna 172S training aircraft operated by Chimes Aviation Pvt. Ltd. crashed during a go-around at Dhana Airstrip in Madhya Pradesh on December 10, 2025, leaving a 22-year-old trainee pilot with minor injuries and destroying the aircraft. The aircraft, registered VT-CAZ, was returning from a solo cross-country training flight when the accident occurred at 08:43 UTC (2:13 pm IST) while attempting to land on Runway 35. According to the AAIB, the trainee pilot made an initial approach but aborted the landing due to instability. During a second approach, the aircraft floated beyond the touchdown zone, prompting air traffic control to order another go-around. As the pilot advanced power, the aircraft pitched up abruptly, rolled left, and lost control, crashing onto the unpaved ground beside the runway. The pilot managed to unbuckle and escape from the wreckage. No fire broke out, but the aircraft sustained substantial damage, including shattered propeller blades, collapsed nose landing gear, broken windscreens, and bent wings. The trainee pilot held a valid Student Pilot License, had 74.5 flying hours, all on the Cessna 172, and had been medically cleared and well rested before the flight. The aircraft, built in 2014, had a valid airworthiness certificate and had completed a 50-hour maintenance inspection just one day before the accident, on 9 December 2025, with no defects reported. AAIB teams have secured the wreckage and recovered Garmin G1000 flight data, CCTV recordings, and engine and airframe components for detailed analysis. Fuel and oil samples are also being tested. Although both outflow valves indicated “fully closed,” the aircraft was unable to build sufficient differential cabin pressure. According to the STSB report, cockpit instruments showed inadequate pressurisation despite normal system settings. Cockpit crews donned oxygen masks, manually deployed passenger oxygen systems, and initiated an emergency descent at approximately 5,000 feet per minute before returning safely to Zurich. The assessment, introduced under the leadership of Union Civil Aviation Minister Shri Ram Mohan Naidu in October 2025, is aimed at strengthening transparency, improving safety standards, and encouraging healthy competition across the aviation training ecosystem. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued its bi-annual ranking of Flying Training Organizations for April 2026, marking the second evaluation since the framework was implemented in late 2025. The latest assessment reflects a major reshuffle across India’s pilot training ecosystem, with visible improvements among several institutes alongside a decline in performance for others. First Entry into Category ‘A’ Sets New Benchmark For the first time since the ranking system was introduced, an FTO has entered the top performance bracket. Avyanna Aviation Pvt. Ltd has been placed in Category ‘A’, scoring between 70% and 85%. The institute was not included in the 2025 rankings due to its incomplete 18-month operational requirement. Its entry at the highest tier establishes a new benchmark for safety, compliance, and operational efficiency in the country’s flight training sector. Strong Recovery: Multiple Institutes Climb from Category ‘C’ A key highlight of the 2026 rankings is the notable recovery of several institutes that were earlier placed in Category ‘C’ (below 50%) in 2025. Eleven FTOs have moved up to Category ‘B’ (50%–70%), indicating measurable improvement in training delivery, safety compliance, and operational consistency. Among the major improvers are the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA), the Bombay Flying Club, and several private academies including Academy of Carver Aviation, Flytech Aviation Academy, Garg Aviation Ltd, Chetak Aviation, Dunes Aviation Academy, Ekvi Air Training Organization, Alchemist Aviation, Ambition Flying Club, and Gujarat Flying Club. The improvements align with the broader policy direction of “Train in India, Fly in India,” which, according to Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, was conceptualized through direct engagement with aspiring cadets and their families. He stated that the framework was designed “to institutionalize a system that brings clarity and conviction to their decision-making.” The Minister further noted that the initiative has already improved flying training efficiency, with average flying hours increasing from 32% to 50%, while also reducing the time required for cadets to obtain their Commercial Pilot License (CPL). The Downturn: Leading Schools Slip to Category ‘C’ The latest evaluation also highlighted a decline in performance for several established institutions. Seven FTOs previously in Category ‘B’ have slipped to Category ‘C’, indicating deterioration in key operational and safety parameters. These include the Haryana Institute of Civil Aviation, Rajiv Gandhi Academy for Aviation Technology, Nagpur Flying Club, Banasthali Vidyapith Gliding & Flying Club, Bihar Flying Institute, Patiala Aviation Club, and SVKM NMIMS Academy of Aviation. DGCA has directed these institutes to undertake formal self-assessment and corrective measures to address deficiencies. Exclusions and Regulatory Strictness The DGCA maintained strict eligibility criteria for the April 2026 rankings, excluding six organizations due to regulatory and operational conditions. Four institutes were excluded under the mandatory 18-month operational rule: Vision Flying Training Institute, Aviation Connectivity Infrastructure Developers Pvt. Ltd, Jharkhand Flying Institute, and ARCA Global. Additionally, the Government Flying Training School was excluded due to invalid FTO approval status as of February 28, 2026. Falcon Aviation Academy, previously in Category ‘C’ in 2025, was removed entirely from the list after being declared non-operational since February 2023. Framework Based on Safety and Performance Metrics The DGCA ranking framework is built on a weighted evaluation system designed to prioritize safety, efficiency, and student outcomes.
