Fuel was dumped to make landing safer to reduce landing weight, a routine procedure in such emergencies. By 17:50 BST, the aircraft had completed the fuel-dumping process and began its descent back to Heathrow. No injuries have been reported. The flight UA939 was delayed by approximately 2 hours and 53 minutes.

The incident occurred on Flight IX-1086, which departed Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at around 8:00 am and landed safely at Varanasi’s Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport shortly after 10:25 am. According to initial reports, a male passenger approached the cockpit door while apparently searching for the lavatory. Eyewitnesses told investigators that he tried operating the cockpit entry mechanism, which is controlled by a keypad and passcode system. Although early reports suggested the individual may have entered the correct code, sources told The Indian Express that the attempt was unsuccessful and the cockpit door remained secure. The captain, alerted to the unusual activity, immediately blocked access and reinforced cockpit security measures. Cabin crew quickly escorted the passenger away from the cockpit area, following standard aviation safety procedures. On landing in Varanasi, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) detained not only the passenger but also eight individuals traveling with him. The group of nine was handed over to Phulpur police for further questioning to determine intent and establish whether the act was accidental or deliberate. Air India Express confirmed the incident but stressed that flight safety and security protocols were never compromised. “Our crew acted promptly in line with standard operating procedures, and the cockpit remained secure throughout,” the airline said in a statement. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified, and officials are assessing whether the incident qualifies as “Level-3 unruly behaviour,” the highest category under India’s Civil Aviation Requirements. According to Hindustan Times, the pilots acted immediately, declared an emergency, and shut down the affected engine following standard safety protocols. They then requested priority landing clearance from Air Traffic Control and safely brought the aircraft back to Delhi, where fire and rescue teams were on standby as a precaution. Air India confirmed that all passengers and crew members disembarked safely. The airline arranged an alternate aircraft so passengers could continue their journey to Indore with minimal disruption. The affected aircraft has been grounded for a detailed engineering inspection to determine the cause of the fire indication. Air India also notified the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is expected to review the incident as part of its routine safety oversight. Kuantan, Malaysia: A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet caught fire during take-off at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport on Thursday night, prompting both pilots to eject seconds before the aircraft crashed. The incident, which occurred around 9:05 pm, temporarily shut down the airport’s runway and disrupted several commercial flights. The RMAF confirmed in a statement that the twin-seat Hornet suffered a fire during its take-off roll at Kuantan Air Base. “Both pilots successfully ejected and were immediately transported to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for medical observation,” the Air Force said. Witnesses described the terrifying moment as the aircraft burst into flames, sending smoke billowing into the night sky. One resident said that two loud explosions “sounded like missile strikes” and could be heard nearly a kilometre away. A video of the incident, widely circulated on social media, shows the Hornet engulfed in flames as it attempted to lift off the runway before both crew members ejected. In a separate incident a month ago, five police officers were injured when their AS355N helicopter crashed into the Pulai River during a nuclear security exercise in Johor. Two officers remain in critical condition and are receiving respiratory support in the Intensive Care Unit at Sultanah Aminah Hospital. The remaining three officers are stable. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed the crash occurred near the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Jetty in Gelang Patah.
