New Delhi, India: An Air India Airbus A320 operating flight AI2379 from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday, August 4, leaving several passengers and cabin crew with minor injuries before the aircraft landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). The incident occurred during the flight's final phase, although reports differ on the exact timing. While early media reports said the turbulence struck during the aircraft's descent into Delhi, Air India later clarified that the aircraft encountered turbulence while in cruise, resulting in a brief change in altitude. The Airbus A320, carrying 134 passengers, landed safely shortly after 11:00 a.m. IST. All passengers and crew disembarked normally after arrival, with Air India's airport and medical teams meeting the aircraft at the gate. According to PTI, 12 people, including passengers and cabin crew, sustained minor injuries during the turbulence event. Other reports indicated that around 10 passengers and two cabin crew members were taken to the Medanta medical facility at Delhi Airport for precautionary medical assessment. Seven passengers were later moved to Fortis Hospital in Vasant Kunj for further evaluation, scans, and observation. Air India said there were no serious injuries. Some early reports stated the aircraft experienced a sudden altitude drop of approximately 300 feet during the turbulence, causing unrestrained occupants to be thrown against the cabin interior and resulting in minor injuries. Air India, however, described the event as a "momentary change in altitude" without confirming the reported altitude deviation. Speaking to news agency ANI, a passenger on board the flight claimed the aircraft experienced a sudden jolt about an hour and a half into the journey while most passengers were asleep. According to the passenger, the aircraft abruptly dropped and swayed violently for nearly two to three minutes, leaving several people injured. In an official statement, Air India said, "The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew remain Air India's highest priority." The sentence was delivered by a Singapore court on June 22, 2026, bringing to a close a case that began with an in-flight incident aboard a Singapore Airlines service operating from Bangkok, Thailand, to Singapore on February 9, 2026. Akash Tiwari, 35, pleaded guilty to one charge of molestation and one charge of harassment. In addition to the jail term, the court ordered him to pay S$1,270.95 in compensation to the victim. Court records showed that he would serve an additional five days in jail if the compensation is not paid. According to court proceedings, Tiwari was travelling with four friends on the Singapore-bound flight. Prosecutors told the court that the group behaved rowdily during the journey and repeatedly waved frantically and laughed whenever female cabin crew members walked past their seats. The incident began before departure from Bangkok when a female flight attendant approached the group to confirm their meal selections. During the interaction, Tiwari stretched out his arm and brushed against the flight attendant's left upper thigh. Prosecutors said he laughed immediately afterward, while his friends also laughed at the incident. Disturbed by the behavior, the flight attendant reported the matter to the chief stewardess. To avoid further contact, she was reassigned to another aisle to continue serving passengers. However, the misconduct continued later in the flight while the flight attendant was collecting meal trays. Prosecutors said Tiwari deliberately used his left elbow to make contact with her buttock. The crew member immediately told him not to touch her. Instead of apologizing, Tiwari reportedly smirked at her. The victim became increasingly distressed and again warned him to stop. The flight attendant subsequently informed the chief stewardess, and both crew members confronted Tiwari regarding the incident. Court documents stated that he remained unapologetic and insisted he had done nothing wrong. As the aircraft began preparations for arrival in Singapore, the captain made an announcement instructing the cabin crew to prepare for landing. The flight attendant then proceeded to the galley while the chief stewardess informed her supervisor and the captain about the incident. According to prosecutors, Tiwari then followed the flight attendant into the galley area. He stood extremely close to her despite being told to stay away. When the victim attempted to create distance, he moved even closer and cornered her inside the confined space. The victim repeatedly instructed him to stop following her and to keep away. Instead, prosecutors said he persisted with the threatening behavior, causing her significant distress. The flight attendant eventually left the galley and moved into the aisle, only to discover that Tiwari was continuing to follow her. Witnesses in the cabin observed the confrontation. She sought assistance from the chief stewardess once again. By that stage, she was reportedly in tears, visibly frightened, and shaking. Following the report from the cabin crew, the flight captain notified authorities ahead of arrival. After the aircraft landed at Singapore Changi Airport, officers from the Airport Police Division conducted follow-up investigations and arrested Tiwari. Singapore Police said they were alerted to the incident at approximately 4:27 p.m. on February 9. The case first entered the court system on March 17, 2026, when Tiwari was formally charged with using criminal force to outrage the modesty of the victim and with causing harassment, alarm, or distress through threatening behavior. At the time, he indicated that he intended to contest the allegations and plead not guilty. A pre-trial conference was subsequently scheduled for March 26. Court documents alleged that Tiwari deliberately used his body to make contact with the victim's buttock area and later followed her into the galley, cornered her in the confined space, and continued pursuing her after she attempted to leave. A gag order was imposed throughout the proceedings to protect the identity of the victim. During sentencing proceedings, prosecutors highlighted Tiwari's lack of remorse, noting that he smirked when confronted and remained unapologetic despite the victim's visible distress. The incident occurred onboard Air India flight AI1879 on June 7 while the aircraft was preparing to land in Delhi. According to airline and airport officials, the passenger broke the inner pane of a cabin window despite repeated warnings from the crew during the flight. Officials familiar with the matter said cabin crew members issued multiple verbal and written warnings after noticing the passenger's behaviour. However, the passenger allegedly ignored the instructions and continued the actions that ultimately resulted in damage to the inner window pane. Following the incident, the cockpit crew implemented standard operating procedures and informed security personnel at Delhi airport before arrival. After the aircraft landed safely, the passenger was handed over to airport security and other concerned authorities for further action. Confirming the occurrence, Air India said flight AI1879 landed safely in Delhi and that the airline's established procedures for handling disruptive passengers were followed throughout the event. The incident involved Jet2 Flight LS1266, operated by an Airbus A321, carrying around 220 passengers and crew. The aircraft departed Tenerife late on May 21 and was en route to Birmingham when the cockpit emergency unfolded during the early hours of May 22. Several passengers later described scenes of panic onboard after the cabin crew suddenly rushed through the cabin asking whether any doctors or medically trained passengers were onboard. According to passengers flashing cabin lights and the rapid descent of the aircraft woke sleeping travellers. Families travelling with children described distress inside the cabin, with several passengers reporting that crying babies and panic among travellers added to the tense atmosphere during the emergency diversion. Some passengers alleged that cabin crew appeared visibly distressed while attempting to assist the incapacitated pilot. The First Officer reportedly took immediate control of the aircraft after the captain became incapacitated. The Airbus A321 then diverted toward Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, where emergency medical teams were already positioned on the runway before landing. The aircraft touched down safely at approximately 2:11 a.m. local time. Medical responders boarded the aircraft immediately after arrival and transported the affected pilot to a nearby hospital for treatment. While several passenger accounts stated that the pilot suffered a heart attack, Jet2 has not officially confirmed the exact medical condition. The airline only stated that one of the pilots became “unwell” during the flight and emphasized that “at no point was safety compromised.” Passengers were reportedly left stranded in Portugal for more than 13 hours following the emergency landing.
