The DGCA initiated this crackdown after an audit of all scheduled airlines found that many operators were uncertain about the scope and content of “annual fatigue training.” Officials noted that fatigue-reports from crew members had not been reaching DGCA for several months, especially following the implementation of the first phase of revised duty and rest norms on July 1, 2025. Under the broader regulatory overhaul of 2025, the DGCA had already increased the minimum weekly rest period for pilots from 36 to 48 hours and set stricter limits on night duty, night-landing frequency and consecutive night flights. Still, regulators found that merely limiting duty-hours was not enough fatigue risk persisted when scheduling, rostering and crew-management systems failed to account for real-world operational stresses. The new circular aims to close that gap. The new measures mean that airlines must now build internal processes, not just comply with hours-based restrictions. Mandatory training for schedulers/dispatchers, a fatigue-reporting system, and a review committee these steps aim to ensure safety proactively, rather than reactive incident-based enforcement. For flight-crew, this may encourage a culture of openness about fatigue; the quarterly reporting system and independent review could reduce pressure on pilots to “tough it out.” For airlines, compliance will demand more than roster-planning operators will need to implement fatigue-awareness training, document reporting and follow-up, and coordinate across departments (scheduling, operations, HR). The November 25 circular builds on changes introduced earlier in 2025. In February, DGCA told the court that a revised framework for flight duty time limitation (FDTL) would be phased in from July 1, with full implementation by November 1. Under that framework: weekly rest was raised to 48 hours, night-duty definitions were revised, and caps placed on night landings and consecutive night flights. Simultaneously, DGCA released a draft “Fatigue Risk Management System” (FRMS), offering airlines a performance-based alternative to prescriptive duty-hour limits if operators can demonstrate through data that fatigue risk remains low. However, the regulator clarified that adoption of FRMS would remain optional; airlines may choose to continue under the standard duty-hour/rest rules.

New Delhi, India: Flight operations across several Indian carriers were disrupted on Tuesday after volcanic ash from Ethiopia’s Hayli Gubbi eruption drifted toward major West Asia and India-bound air corridors. Airlines including Air India, Akasa Air and IndiGo cancelled or rerouted multiple flights as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued an urgent advisory enforcing strict avoidance of ash-affected airspace. The DGCA directed airlines to steer clear of regions and flight levels identified as contaminated by volcanic ash. The regulator also instructed carriers to reassess flight plans, fuel requirements and alternates, and to file immediate reports of any suspected ash encounters. The advisory highlighted the risk to aircraft engines and airframes, and asked operators to conduct additional inspections for any aircraft that may have flown near the affected zones. At least six flights including services from Mumbai and southern metros were grounded as a precaution. Volcanic ash can severely damage aircraft by melting inside engines, clogging ventilation systems and affecting sensors. Following ICAO protocols, Indian carriers have shifted flight paths and temporarily halted services operating along westbound routes that intersect the plume’s trajectory. The agreement, signed on October 27, 2025, positions Falcon as one of the first regional operators preparing large-scale deployment of eVTOL platforms for industrial and mobility missions. The order includes 15 V2000CG “CarryAll” cargo aircraft and 35 V2000EM “Prosperity” passenger aircraft, with the first deliveries expected by the end of 2025. Falcon intends to use the fleet to support operations for the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), signalling a shift towards low-emission, high-efficiency aerial support in the energy sector. AutoFlight’s cargo model, the CarryAll, has already achieved a full suite of airworthiness approvals from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) including the Type Certificate, Production Certificate and individual Airworthiness Certificates. The aircraft has also entered commercial service in China following delivery to Heli Chuangxing Intelligent, marking one of the first certified heavy-lift eVTOL deployments globally. The passenger-focused Prosperity model remains in its verification and regulatory testing phase. AutoFlight is working toward passenger-operation certification in multiple jurisdictions, a process that will determine the pace of Falcon’s full-scale rollout in the UAE. Falcon Aviation Services said the partnership aligns with its long-term strategy to modernise its mobility capabilities and expand its role in advanced air mobility (AAM) across the region. According to a Reuters report, controllers across the country have turned to gig work such as food delivery, tutoring, and ride-sharing as paychecks remain frozen. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that controllers remain on duty under essential service provisions, but union officials said morale and focus are deteriorating under the strain. “Instead of being focused on saving lives, controllers are now focused on what job they can work on to put food on the table. The layers of safety are being stripped away,” said a spokesperson for the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA). On October 6, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began furloughing nearly 11,000 employees as the U.S. government shutdown took effect, forcing the suspension of several administrative, certification, and training activities across the national airspace system. All six people onboard, including two pilots and four passengers, escaped unhurt. The aircraft, registered as VT-DEZ, reportedly veered off the runway and came to rest in nearby grass after skidding for nearly 400 metres. The incident occurred around noon when the jet was preparing to depart from the unregulated airstrip. According to reports, those onboard included Ajay Arora, Deputy Managing Director of Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients Pvt Ltd; Sumit Sharma of the State Bank of India; Rakesh Tikku, Vice President (Operations); and Manish Kumar Pandey, the company’s Uttar Pradesh project head. The flight was being piloted by Nasib Baman and Prateek Fernandes. While no injuries were reported, the aircraft sustained minor structural damage, particularly in the nose section, which appeared to have tilted into the soil following the runway excursion. Officials said that low tyre pressure may have contributed to the incident. According to NDTV, local authorities stated that the pilot was aware of reduced tyre pressure prior to takeoff but proceeded nonetheless. Officials from the district administration and the local police reached the scene shortly after the incident to inspect the site. The fire brigade was not informed in advance about the scheduled flight, and there were claims that the required treasury fees for airstrip use had not been deposited. The aircraft landed safely, with all passengers disembarking unharmed. The flight had departed Sydney at 2:40 PM local time. Around an hour into the journey, the crew reported a strong fuel smell in the cockpit. “Mayday Speed Bird 16. I’m just about to come fully established on 34 left. We will have to stop for a minute after landing,” the pilot communicated during a call to air traffic control. In response, a Sydney Airport controller acknowledged, saying, “G’day, copy, mayday acknowledged.” Passengers described a tense and unsettling experience. Screens and cabin lights began switching off mid-flight, heightening anxiety among travelers. Mandy Ramson, a passenger on board, told 7NEWS: “We heard the captain say we need a senior crew member to come to the cockpit now, and then we started thinking there’s something wrong. About 10 minutes later, we were told, ‘we’re going to have to turn around because they smelt fuel in the cockpit.’ It was scary, it was really scary.” Upon returning, the aircraft touched down safely at 3:56 PM, where it was met by emergency services, including up to eight fire trucks, as a precaution. Sydney Airport operations continued without disruption, and no injuries were reported.
