Bengaluru, India: A 63-year-old passenger was arrested by the Kempegowda International Airport Police in Bengaluru after allegedly sexually harassing a cabin crew member onboard a Gulf Air flight operating from Bahrain to Bengaluru, according to police and multiple media reports. The incident reportedly took place on May 4 during the airline’s scheduled international service to Bengaluru and came to light after the aircraft landed at Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2. According to the complaint filed by the 24-year-old cabin crew member, the alleged incident occurred while she was performing routine inflight service duties inside the cabin. The FIR stated that the passenger, who was seated onboard the Gulf Air flight, allegedly moved his hand from beneath a blanket and touched the crew member near her waist while she was attending to passengers during the journey. The crew member immediately objected to the alleged act and distanced herself from the passenger before reporting the matter to senior crew members and the flight captain during the flight. Following the aircraft’s arrival in Bengaluru, airline officials coordinated with airport authorities and the crew member later approached the Kempegowda International Airport Police Station to file a formal complaint. Based on her statement and preliminary inquiry, police registered a case under Section 75(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with sexual harassment-related offences. Authorities identified the accused as Jacob Alexander, aged 63. Police confirmed that he was detained for questioning shortly after the flight landed and was subsequently arrested. Investigators are currently examining statements from the cabin crew, airline personnel and other relevant witnesses as part of the ongoing inquiry into the incident. According to details cited in media reports and the FIR, the accused allegedly denied any intentional misconduct during questioning and reportedly described the physical contact as “friendly”. However, police proceeded with the case based on the complaint filed by the cabin crew member and the details recorded during the investigation.

The incident involved United Airlines Flight 169, a Boeing 767-400 operating from Venice, Italy, which made contact with roadside infrastructure while descending toward Runway 29 at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time on May 3, 2026. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local authorities, the aircraft’s landing gear and underside struck a light pole and a tractor-trailer traveling on the New Jersey Turnpike, a major highway that runs adjacent to the airport’s approach path. The impact caused the light pole to collapse, with debris subsequently striking a passing Jeep on the roadway. Despite the mid-air contact with ground objects, the aircraft continued its approach and landed safely, later taxiing to the gate without further incident. All 221 passengers and 10 crew members onboard were unharmed, airline officials confirmed. However, the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries, primarily cuts from broken glass, and was transported to hospital and is being released. Authorities reported minor structural damage to the aircraft, including impact to a tire and the underside of the fuselage. Emergency responders, including the New Jersey State Police and Port Authority personnel, attended the scene promptly. Airport officials conducted runway inspections for debris, and normal operations resumed shortly afterward. The truck involved in the collision was reportedly transporting goods to an airport facility at the time of the incident. Runway 29 at Newark is known for its low-altitude approach over the New Jersey Turnpike, where aircraft routinely pass just above vehicular traffic before touchdown. "Our maintenance team is evaluating damage to the aircraft," said a United spokesperson. "We will conduct a rigorous flight safety investigation into the incident and our crew has been removed from service as part of the process." The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have both launched formal investigations into the incident. The NTSB has directed the airline to secure critical evidence, including the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and flight data recorder (FDR), and has deployed investigators to Newark. A preliminary report is expected within 30 days, according to officials.

Gurugram, India: India is preparing to enter a new phase of regional aviation connectivity with the launch of its first dedicated commercial seaplane operations, following regulatory clearance granted to SkyHop Aviation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The Gurugram-based startup has secured an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), formally authorising it to begin commercial seaplane services, making it the country’s first dedicated operator in this segment. SkyHop Aviation is expected to commence operations in the coming months of 2026, with Lakshadweep identified as the first operational region. The initial phase will focus on, connecting five islands within Lakshadweep and linking these islands to the Indian mainland, likely via Kochi The project forms part of a broader push to enhance last-mile connectivity in regions where traditional airport infrastructure is limited or unviable. Operations will begin using 19-seater amphibious aircraft, primarily the De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, a globally proven platform for short take-off and water landings. The airline has also reportedly leased multiple Twin Otter aircraft for initial deployment on island and coastal routes. The AOC approval follows a series of successful test operations conducted in April 2026, which validated the feasibility of seaplane operations in Indian conditions. The development marks a major milestone in India’s defence manufacturing ambitions, as the F414 engine is slated to power three key indigenous combat aircraft the Tejas Mk2, the Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF), and the initial variant of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). HAL and GE Aerospace have finalised the technical aspects of the agreement, including complex negotiations around technology transfer widely regarded as the most challenging phase of the deal. With this stage completed, both sides have moved into commercial negotiations, which are expected to take additional time due to rising global component costs and pricing complexities. Officials indicate that the final contract could be signed within the current financial year, marking the culmination of negotiations that have been underway for nearly three years. A central feature of the agreement is the transfer of approximately 80% of manufacturing technology from GE Aerospace to HAL, one of the most substantial technology transfer arrangements ever secured by India in the aerospace sector. The deal will enable India to manufacture advanced fighter jet engines domestically, significantly reducing dependence on imports and strengthening long-term self-reliance in critical defence technologies. Under the agreement: 99 F414 engines are planned to be manufactured in India for the Tejas Mk2 programme The Indian Air Force (IAF) has projected a requirement of 120–130 Tejas Mk2 aircraft, indicating further engine demand The co-production programme will involve licensed manufacturing in India, not just assembly The engine, capable of delivering around 98 kN of thrust, is critical for the performance requirements of next-generation Indian fighter platforms. Tejas Mk2 The F414 engine will power the Tejas Mk2, a more advanced and heavier variant of the Light Combat Aircraft designed to replace ageing fleets and enhance the IAF’s combat capability. TEDBF (Naval Fighter) The Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter, intended for aircraft carrier operations, will rely on dual F414 engines for enhanced thrust and maritime capability. AMCA (5th-Generation Fighter) The initial version of India’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, AMCA Mk1, is also expected to use the F414 engine before transitioning to a more powerful indigenous or co-developed engine in later variants. The agreement is expected to play a key role in: Boosting indigenous defence manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative Strengthening India–US defence cooperation, particularly in high-end aerospace technologies Addressing the Indian Air Force’s declining squadron strength, a major operational concern Enabling future fighter programmes without dependence on foreign engine supplies Experts note that local production of such high-performance engines represents a critical capability gap that India has long sought to bridge. The HAL–GE engine collaboration traces back to a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2023, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States. Since then, negotiations have focused heavily on securing deep technology transfer, with India insisting on a minimum threshold of around 80% for the deal to proceed. Following the conclusion of technical discussions in April 2026, the programme has now entered its final phase before contract signing. Once finalised, the agreement will not only power multiple indigenous fighter programmes but also mark a decisive shift towards domestic production of advanced jet engines, a capability currently limited to a handful of countries worldwide.

The aircraft involved were Republic Airways Flight 4464, operating as an American Airlines service, and Jazz Aviation Flight 554, operating for Air Canada Express. Both aircraft were on final approach to parallel runways when the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time. According to preliminary findings, the American Airlines-operated regional jet deviated from its assigned approach path and entered the airspace of the Air Canada flight, which had been cleared to land on a parallel runway. Flight tracking data indicates the American aircraft descended sharply by roughly 600 feet while drifting into the adjacent approach corridor, creating an immediate conflict with the Air Canada jet.
