New Jersey, United States: An Air Canada Express flight bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, was forced to divert to Boston on Wednesday after the aircraft’s captain suffered a serious medical emergency while the flight was airborne, prompting an emergency response from crew members, passengers and aviation authorities. The incident occurred aboard Air Canada Express Flight AC7664, operated by regional carrier PAL Airlines using a De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprop aircraft. According to Air Canada, the flight departed Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey at approximately 12:55 p.m. EDT on June 24 and was scheduled to operate a routine service to Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia. The aircraft was carrying 61 passengers. Air Canada said the captain experienced a medical issue during the flight and was removed from the flight deck in accordance with established safety procedures. The first officer immediately assumed control of the aircraft and initiated a diversion to Boston Logan International Airport. The airline emphasized that pilots are trained to safely operate and land aircraft independently if circumstances require. Flight-tracking data reviewed by multiple media outlets showed the aircraft had been airborne for roughly an hour when the diversion occurred. Data indicated the aircraft began descending approximately 30 minutes after departure before proceeding toward Boston. The flight, which normally takes about two hours and 15 minutes, did not continue to Halifax as planned. Passengers Describe Sudden Mid-Air Emergency. Several passengers later described a dramatic sequence of events inside the cabin. Passenger Rodney McDonald told ABC News that the situation became apparent when the aircraft suddenly swerved during flight. According to McDonald, the movement did not resemble turbulence and instead felt as though the flight controls had been abruptly disturbed multiple times. "The moment the plane swerved, I knew something was wrong because it was not turbulence," he told ABC News. McDonald said concern quickly spread through the cabin, with passengers fearing a potentially serious emergency. He recalled his children immediately beginning to pray as uncertainty grew over the aircraft's condition. The situation escalated when, according to passenger accounts, a flight attendant rushed into the cockpit before emerging with one of the pilots. McDonald said cabin crew members appeared to be struggling with the incapacitated pilot and requested assistance from passengers. Several travelers responded. Passenger Elizabeth Akinyemi told ABC News that the captain appeared to be suffering what looked like a seizure. She said the medical episode continued for approximately 40 minutes. Witnesses reported that the pilot displayed erratic behavior and at times attempted to return to the cockpit while experiencing the medical event. McDonald said he and approximately four other passengers helped crew members restrain the captain in the cabin while the first officer continued flying the aircraft toward Boston. No injuries among passengers were reported safe Landing In Boston. The first officer successfully diverted and landed the aircraft at Boston Logan International Airport at approximately 2 p.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration later confirmed that Air Canada Flight 7664 landed safely after the crew reported a pilot medical emergency. Massachusetts State Police said authorities were notified at approximately 1:37 p.m. that a crew member had suffered a medical emergency and that the aircraft was being flown by the co-pilot. State police patrol units and a marine unit responded as a precaution ahead of the aircraft's arrival. Television footage from Boston showed emergency vehicles surrounding the aircraft shortly after landing. Massport Fire Rescue personnel and Boston EMS crews met the aircraft on the runway. Video and aerial footage captured emergency responders bringing a stretcher to the aircraft before transporting the pilot from the airplane. The captain was subsequently taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment. Officials have not publicly disclosed the pilot's identity, medical condition or the precise nature of the medical emergency. Passengers Continue Journey. Following the safe landing, Air Canada said it began making alternate travel arrangements for affected passengers. The passengers were expected to continue their journey to Halifax later the same day. The FAA has not announced any formal investigation beyond its standard review procedures associated with in-flight medical emergencies.

Narita, Japan: A Japan Airlines (JAL) Boeing 767 operating a domestic service from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) to Kagoshima Airport (KOJ) made an emergency landing at Narita International Airport (NRT) on May 29 after a suspected tire failure during takeoff prompted the crew to divert the aircraft. The aircraft, carrying 218 passengers and eight crew members, landed safely at Narita at approximately 11:55 a.m. local time. No injuries were reported among those on board. According to Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) and local media reports, the incident began shortly after departure from Haneda Airport when the crew detected a problem believed to be related to the aircraft's landing gear tires. As a precaution, the Boeing 767 discontinued its planned flight to Kagoshima and diverted to Narita, where emergency services were positioned ahead of the landing. The aircraft touched down without further incident and passengers later disembarked safely. Airport and transport authorities immediately launched an investigation into the occurrence. The incident resulted in temporary operational disruptions at both airports. Following the emergency landing, Narita Airport's Runway A was closed for approximately two hours while officials inspected the aircraft and conducted safety assessments. Airport operations later resumed after the runway was cleared for use. Meanwhile, officials at Haneda Airport discovered debris on Runway D, the same runway used by the JAL aircraft for departure. Authorities temporarily closed the runway beginning around 10:30 a.m. to determine whether the debris originated from the Boeing 767. After inspections were completed, Runway D reopened at approximately 1:45 p.m. However, investigators have not yet confirmed whether the debris was connected to the Japan Airlines aircraft. Further details indicated that the aircraft conducted a low approach inspection, during which damage was reportedly observed on two forward tires of the main landing gear. The report suggested the event may have involved more extensive tire damage than initially believed. There were no reported injuries among the 226 occupants onboard and the aircraft landed safely following the occurrence.

Muscat, Oman: An Air India Express Boeing 737-800 operating flight IX712 from Muscat to Kannur suffered significant damage during a nighttime takeoff attempt at Muscat International Airport on May 15 after the aircraft reportedly lined up with runway edge lights instead of the runway centreline, triggering a high-speed rejected takeoff and a formal accident investigation by Omani authorities. The incident came to public attention nearly nine days later, on May 24, after regulatory sources in Oman confirmed details of the occurrence. The 18-year-old Boeing 737-800 had been preparing to depart Muscat for the approximately three-hour service to Kannur on the night of May 15. During lineup for departure from Runway 26L, the aircraft allegedly tracked the right-hand runway edge lights rather than positioning itself on the runway centreline. As the aircraft accelerated for takeoff at approximately 9:10 pm local time after entering the runway via taxiway E7, the Boeing 737 struck multiple runway edge lights, destroying several of them during the takeoff roll. Flight crew reportedly aborted the takeoff after hearing a loud bang and receiving cockpit warnings. The aircraft sustained substantial damage during the incident. Reports stated that the nose landing gear was damaged, at least one tyre deflated, and hydraulic system leaks were observed after the rejected takeoff. Aviation sources also indicated that debris from shattered runway lights may have been ingested into the engines, potentially causing additional engine damage. The aircraft became disabled on the runway following the rejected takeoff, forcing passengers and crew to disembark directly onto the runway surface while emergency teams responded. However, authorities have not officially confirmed all operational details surrounding the evacuation sequence. The aircraft has reportedly remained grounded in Muscat since the incident while technical inspections and investigative work continue. Oman’s Air Accidents Investigation Sector (AAIS) has classified the occurrence as an “accident” rather than a minor incident, underlining the seriousness of the event. Investigators are now examining cockpit procedures, runway lighting conditions, pilot situational awareness, airport surface markings, and other operational factors that may have contributed to the alignment error during nighttime operations.

Hong Kong, China: A Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-900 operating flight CX156 from Brisbane to Hong Kong encountered severe turbulence during the early hours of May 23, injuring 10 people and forcing emergency medical assistance upon arrival at Hong Kong International Airport. The aircraft, identified as an Airbus A350-941 registered B-LRV, departed Brisbane shortly after midnight and was approximately two hours from landing in Hong Kong when the turbulence struck unexpectedly during breakfast service in the economy cabin. Cathay Pacific confirmed that six cabin crew members and four passengers sustained injuries in the incident. Eight of them were later transported to hospitals in Hong Kong for further medical treatment and observation after the aircraft landed safely at approximately 6:45 a.m. local time, a Cathay spokesman said. Passengers onboard described scenes of panic as the aircraft suddenly dropped in altitude for several seconds. One traveler compared the experience to “free-falling from a drop tower,” while others reported hearing screams throughout the cabin as unsecured items, food trays, coffee cups and mobile phones were thrown into the air. The turbulence reportedly occurred without prior warning while cabin crew were actively serving meals in the aisles, leaving many passengers and crew unrestrained at the time of impact. Several overhead lockers reportedly opened during the violent jolts, while food carts overturned and cabin debris scattered across the aircraft interior. Some reports also indicated that oxygen masks deployed in parts of the cabin following the sudden movement. Photographs circulating on social media after the incident showed extensive cabin disruption, including food-covered aisles, damaged service equipment and scattered personal belongings. One injured flight attendant was reportedly seen being transported in a neck brace after landing. Several passengers said the turbulence appeared to originate from an unexpected weather system or thunderstorm activity encountered during night operations. One passenger said there had been no seatbelt warning prior to the event and speculated that a storm cell may not have been visible on radar in the darkness. However, aviation observers and later reports suggested the aircraft may have encountered severe clear-air turbulence, which can occur suddenly without visible cloud formations or advanced warning to pilots. Medical professionals traveling onboard reportedly assisted injured passengers and crew members for the remainder of the flight until emergency responders boarded the aircraft in Hong Kong. Airport medical teams and ambulances had been placed on standby before arrival after authorities were informed of the turbulence event. Cathay Pacific said the affected passengers and crew received immediate care following the landing and stated that safety remains the airline’s highest priority. The carrier added that it would continue providing assistance to those injured.

Bangalore, India: An Air India Airbus A321 operating flight AI2651 from Delhi to Bengaluru suffered a tail-strike incident while landing at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday morning, prompting the airline to ground the aircraft for detailed technical inspections. The incident occurred during the landing phase of the domestic service arriving from Delhi. According to airline officials and multiple media reports, the aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew members disembarked normally without injuries. The aircraft encountered wake turbulence while approaching the runway at Bengaluru airport. The turbulence was reportedly generated by a departing wide-body aircraft operating nearby at the time of the approach. As the Airbus A321 approached for landing, the pilots initiated a precautionary go-around manoeuvre after experiencing unstable conditions caused by the wake turbulence. During the manoeuvre, the aircraft’s rear lower fuselage reportedly made contact with the runway, resulting in the tail strike. Air India confirmed the occurrence in an official statement, saying the aircraft “experienced a tail-strike during landing.” The airline added that the aircraft has since been withdrawn from service for comprehensive inspections and engineering assessments. The aircraft involved was a narrow-body Airbus A321 operating the Delhi–Bengaluru sector as AI2651. Flight-tracking data also identified the aircraft as an Airbus A321neo variant typically deployed on high-density domestic routes. The aircraft was carrying 181 people, including crew members onboard during the incident. Following the incident, Air India cancelled the return Bengaluru–Delhi service AI2652. The airline stated that alternative travel arrangements were being made for affected passengers while ground staff in Bengaluru were assisting travellers with rebooking and support services. The airline further said the incident would be investigated in coordination with relevant aviation regulatory authorities and under established operational safety procedures.

Chennai, India: A passenger onboard an Air Arabia flight arriving from Sharjah caused a major security disruption at Chennai International Airport after allegedly opening an emergency exit door while the aircraft was taxiing after landing on Sunday morning. The incident involved Air Arabia flight G9 471 (Airbus A320) which landed in Chennai carrying approximately 231 passengers. According to airport and security officials, the aircraft had safely touched down and was moving along the taxiway towards the terminal when the disruption occurred. As the aircraft proceeded along the taxiway, a 34-year-old male passenger from Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, reportedly opened one of the emergency exit doors without authorization. In some reports, it is also stated that the passenger exited the aircraft after opening the door, triggering immediate alarm among crew and ground authorities. The pilot responded instantly by bringing the aircraft to a halt and alerting Air Traffic Control and airport security agencies. The action resulted in a temporary suspension of operations on the taxiway and main runway. Personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), along with airport security and police teams, rushed to the aircraft. The passenger was quickly restrained and taken into custody for questioning. Officials confirmed that he was later handed over to local police for further investigation. Authorities are also assessing the passenger’s mental condition and behaviour prior to the incident, with preliminary reports suggesting he may have been unwell during the flight. The passenger had complained of discomfort onboard and had experienced vomiting during the journey, though this is part of ongoing verification. Following the incident, Chennai Airport authorities temporarily shut the main runway and taxi operations for security checks and inspection of the aircraft, especially due to the emergency exit deployment. The affected aircraft was later towed to a parking bay after inspection. Authorities confirmed that no passengers or crew members were injured, no structural damage to the aircraft was reported and the situation was contained quickly by security teams. Manchester, United Kingdom: A Jet2 passenger aircraft bound for the Greek island of Crete was forced to carry out an emergency landing at Manchester Airport after it was struck by a flock of geese shortly after take-off, leading to a precautionary diversion and a rapid response from the flight crew. The incident occurred during the initial climb phase of the flight, when the aircraft encountered a bird strike involving geese. Due to the size and potential impact of such birds, the crew immediately assessed the situation for any possible engine or structural damage before deciding to return to the departure airport as a safety precaution. Following standard aviation procedures, the pilots declared an emergency and coordinated with air traffic control to prioritise an immediate return. The aircraft safely landed without further incident, and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew on board. Emergency services were placed on standby as a precautionary measure in line with airport emergency response protocols. However, their intervention was not required after the aircraft came to a safe stop on the runway. Passengers were safely disembarked after landing, and airline staff arranged assistance for onward travel. Jet2 later confirmed that the decision to return was taken strictly in the interest of safety, emphasising that precautionary diversions are standard practice following suspected bird strikes. Bird strikes involving geese are considered more serious than smaller bird impacts due to their size and weight, particularly during take-off and landing when aircraft are operating at lower altitudes and higher thrust settings. In such scenarios, even a single impact can require a full technical inspection before the aircraft is cleared to fly again. The aircraft involved is expected to undergo a detailed engineering inspection to assess any potential damage to engines or external components before being returned to service. Jet2 has maintained that safety remains its highest priority, and that its flight crews are trained to respond immediately to any abnormal situation in accordance with strict operational procedures. Authorities have not released further technical details regarding the extent of any damage, and routine investigations are expected to follow standard aviation safety protocols.

London, United Kingdom: British Airways (BA) has introduced a stricter onboard conduct policy that explicitly restricts passengers from photographing, recording, or livestreaming cabin crew without their consent, marking a significant shift in how the airline addresses privacy and onboard behaviour. The update has been incorporated into the airline’s General Conditions of Carriage under Section 11(a), classifying unauthorised filming of crew members or airline staff as “unacceptable behaviour.” Under the revised rules, British Airways states that if it reasonably believes a passenger has filmed, photographed, or live-streamed cabin crew without consent, it may take “any measures it considers reasonable” to stop the behaviour. These measures can include intervention by cabin crew, documentation of misconduct, removal of the passenger at the next landing point, cancellation of remaining flight sectors, and potential referral to authorities in serious cases. The revised policy applies broadly to the use of smartphones, digital cameras, and wearable recording devices such as smart glasses and action cameras, which are increasingly used for discreet recording onboard. While the restriction is focused on crew members and airline staff, passengers remain permitted to capture general travel content such as cabin interiors, personal selfies, and meals, provided no identifiable crew member is recorded without permission. Industry reports suggest the policy shift is being driven by a combination of rising privacy concerns and the growing influence of social media onboard aircraft. The widespread availability of high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi has enabled passengers to livestream interactions in real time, increasing the risk of incidents being broadcast without context or consent. Airlines, including British Airways have also faced increasing instances of cabin crew being recorded during service interactions, disputes, or operational disruptions, with such clips frequently circulating online. BA’s updated stance aligns with a broader industry trend where carriers are strengthening protections for frontline staff against unauthorised recording and potential online exposure. British Airways’ updated conditions reinforce that the aircraft cabin is not considered a public space under UK law, allowing airlines to enforce internal behavioural rules as a condition of carriage. Because passengers agree to these conditions upon booking, the airline maintains contractual authority to regulate conduct onboard and take enforcement action when necessary. The move places British Airways alongside other global carriers that have already introduced similar restrictions on photographing or recording crew without consent. Some airlines have also begun issuing onboard announcements reminding passengers of photography rules at the start of flights, reflecting growing industry-wide attention to privacy management in enclosed cabin environments. While the policy has been framed as a privacy protection measure for crew, it has also sparked debate among frequent flyers and content creators. Critics argue that such restrictions may make it harder for passengers to document service issues or operational concerns. However, airlines continue to provide formal complaint channels and regulatory oversight mechanisms for such matters. At the same time, cabin crew unions and industry groups have increasingly called for stronger safeguards, citing concerns over harassment, misrepresentation, and viral social media content taken out of context.
