Chicago, United States: United Airlines flight attendants have ratified a new five-year labor agreement that delivers significant improvements in pay, benefits, and working conditions, concluding one of the most closely watched negotiations in the U.S. aviation sector in recent years. The contract, approved by around 30,000 cabin crew members represented by the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, passed with 82% support following a high voter turnout. The agreement introduces an estimated 31% average wage increase over the duration of the contract, marking one of the largest pay adjustments for flight attendants at United Airlines in decades. The pay structure will be implemented in phases, with initial increases beginning in the summer schedule cycle and further adjustments rolling out across the contract period. A major highlight of the deal is the introduction of boarding pay, a long-standing demand from flight attendants across the industry. Under the new terms, crew members will now be compensated for time spent during passenger boarding, addressing a period that was previously unpaid despite active operational duties. The agreement also extends compensation provisions for extended ground delays and certain operational disruptions. The contract additionally includes approximately $741 million in retroactive payments, covering past service periods and ensuring compensation adjustments linked to prior years of work. According to union and media reports, this retroactive component represents one of the most substantial back-pay settlements in recent airline labor agreements. Beyond wages, the agreement introduces several quality-of-life and scheduling improvements. These include enhanced retirement contributions, expanded paid parental leave of around 10 weeks, and strengthened protections related to scheduling practices. The deal also places limits on disruptive “red-eye” scheduling patterns and reduces certain reserve duty constraints that previously affected crew predictability. Union leadership described the agreement as a product of prolonged negotiations and collective bargaining efforts that stretched over several years, including earlier tentative agreements that were not approved by members. The final ratification reflects broad member support, with participation nearing 90% in the voting process, according to union data. Implementation of the contract is expected to begin immediately in phases, with retroactive payments processed following payroll adjustments later in the cycle. Both the union and airline have characterized the agreement as a long-term resolution that brings stability after years of negotiations.

Hanoi, Vietnam: Vietnam’s civil aviation sector has grounded 28 commercial aircraft as part of a broader global engine shortage that continues to disrupt airline fleet operations and maintenance timelines, industry sources and official data confirm. According to figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) and industry reporting, the affected aircraft represent approximately 13.1 per cent of Vietnam’s operational commercial fleet, underscoring the depth of the ongoing supply chain challenge. The grounding stems from an extended recall and repair cycle for Pratt & Whitney’s PW1000G geared turbofan engines, which power a large portion of narrow‑body jets such as the Airbus A321neo. These engines have been subject to global maintenance and availability constraints, affecting multiple airlines worldwide. Of the aircraft currently out of service in Vietnam: 24 are Airbus A321neo aircraft Three are Airbus A350s One is an Airbus A320ceo Despite reduced fleet availability, carriers based in Vietnam have maintained core route operations, both domestically and internationally. Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) continue to serve as major aviation hubs, linking close to 50 domestic routes across 20 airports. On the international front, Vietnamese airlines operate over 110 scheduled routes to more than two dozen countries, while foreign carriers maintain robust connections with Vietnam through over 140 services. Strong travel demand has bolstered resilience across the sector. Preliminary data estimates that international passenger numbers will reach around 46.9 million in 2025, marking roughly a 13.3 per cent increase compared with the previous year. Domestic passenger traffic also rose, with nearly 36.6 million travellers, reflecting sustained demand across segments. Total passenger traffic is seen growing by upwards of 6.7 per cent, while cargo volumes have climbed by 4.6 per cent over the same period. Vietnam’s aviation regulator and airline operators have initiated strategies to mitigate the impact of grounded aircraft, including fleet reallocation, schedule adjustments, and prioritising high‑demand routes. The CAAV has signalled that while the number of grounded jets has eased compared with earlier reports in 2025, supply chain recovery challenges persist. Looking ahead, Vietnam’s air transport sector is pursuing ambitious growth targets for 2026, aiming to accommodate up to 95 million passengers alongside expanded cargo operations, signalling confidence in long‑term traffic growth despite underlying technical challenges

New York, United States: A low-speed collision between two Delta Connection regional jets disrupted operations at LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night, injuring a flight attendant and damaging both aircraft. The incident occurred when Delta Connection Flight 5155, operated by Endeavor Air and scheduled to depart for Roanoke, Virginia, struck the nose of Delta Connection Flight 5047 arriving from Charlotte, North Carolina. The right wing of the departing CRJ-900 clipped the cockpit section of the arriving aircraft. The collision shattered cockpit windows and damaged the forward fuselage of the Charlotte flight. A cabin crew member on board sustained a knee injury and was taken to a local hospital. No passengers were hurt. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed that airport operations continued without major disruption. The Endeavor flight 5155 was carrying 32 people including 28 passengers and 4 crewmembers whereas Endeavor flight 5047 was carrying 61 people in which 57 were passengers and 4 crewmembers, all passengers were safely deplaned and transported by bus to the terminal, where Delta arranged hotel accommodation, meals, and rebooking support. The NTSB has dispatched a team of ten investigators and recovered flight recorders from both aircraft for analysis. The FAA stated that Flight 5155 had been instructed to hold position before the collision, but the exact circumstances remain under investigation. The focus will include taxiway intersection layout, air traffic control instructions, and pilot decision-making. Flights resumed on schedule Thursday morning, with no further delays.
