Kanpur, India: A 22-year-old trainee pilot was seriously injured after being struck by the rotating propeller of a training aircraft following a night instructional flight at Chakeri Airport in Kanpur, prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to order an investigation into the incident and take immediate action against the aircraft and instructor involved. The accident occurred at around 11:15 pm on June 28 at the Flying Training Organisation (FTO) operated by Garg Aviation at Chakeri Airport in Uttar Pradesh. According to the DGCA, the aircraft involved was a Tecnam P2006T twin-engine trainer bearing registration VT-NBV, which had been conducting a scheduled night instructional training sortie. The aircraft was carrying one flight instructor and one female cadet pilot. Preliminary information indicates the trainee pilot exited the aircraft while at least one engine may have remained running. As she moved away from the aircraft, she came into contact with the still-rotating propeller, sustaining serious injuries after coming into contact with the rotating propeller. The injured trainee was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kanpur, where she continues to receive treatment. Authorities have not officially disclosed her identity or released an update on her medical condition. However, multiple media reports identified her as a 22-year-old trainee pilot from New Delhi. The incident has raised serious concerns over adherence to ground safety procedures during flight training operations, particularly during night sorties when spinning propellers can be difficult to detect. Following the incident, the DGCA initiated a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident. A spinning propeller can become nearly invisible, particularly at night or under low-light conditions, making strict compliance with engine shutdown procedures and safe deboarding practices essential. The DGCA investigation is expected to determine whether established safety protocols were breached and whether additional corrective measures are required for flying training organisations across the country.

Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia: Fourteen people were killed after a helicopter operated by Saudi energy giant Saudi Aramco crashed during a routine mission near the strategic oil hub of Ras Tanura in eastern Saudi Arabia early Sunday, marking one of the country's deadliest civilian helicopter accidents in recent years. Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy confirmed that the helicopter crashed at approximately 6:00 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) on June 28, killing all 14 people on board. Officials said all the victims were Saudi nationals, and there were no survivors. The ministry has not released the identities of the victims, nor has it disclosed whether those on board were Aramco employees, contractors, flight crew or other personnel. The helicopter was being operated by Saudi Aramco, the world's largest oil producer. According to state media, the aircraft was conducting a routine operational mission when the accident occurred. Saudi authorities have not identified the helicopter model, registration number or operator details. The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear. Officials have not confirmed whether the aircraft crashed over land or water, nor have they announced whether distress calls were received before the accident. Saudi authorities immediately launched a full investigation to determine the cause of the crash. As of the latest official update, investigators have not released any preliminary findings, and no evidence has been presented suggesting mechanical failure, adverse weather, sabotage or hostile action. The crash occurred in Ras Tanura, located on Saudi Arabia's eastern Gulf coast near the Strait of Hormuz. The city is home to one of the world's largest oil export terminals and serves as a key hub for Saudi Arabia's petroleum industry. The accident came just two days after Saudi Aramco resumed crude oil loadings at the Ras Tanura export terminal, following a suspension of nearly four months caused by heightened regional tensions and disruptions to shipping in the Gulf. The timing of the crash has drawn attention because of the ongoing geopolitical instability in the region. However, Saudi authorities have not indicated any connection between the accident and the recent security situation, and investigators continue to treat the incident as an aviation accident pending the outcome of the inquiry. Saudi Aramco had recently shifted portions of its crude exports to alternative pipeline routes during disruptions affecting the Strait of Hormuz before resuming normal loading operations at Ras Tanura. The Ministry of Energy expressed its condolences to the families of those killed and confirmed that the investigation is being conducted with the participation of all relevant authorities. Further information, including the identities of the victims, the helicopter type, flight purpose and probable cause, is expected to be released once investigators complete the initial phase of their inquiry.

Ahmedabad, India: A potentially serious ground incident was averted at Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport after an Air India aircraft inadvertently entered an active taxiway following landing and came face-to-face with an IndiGo aircraft preparing for departure. Swift intervention by Air Traffic Control (ATC) prevented the situation from escalating, with both aircraft stopping safely before any collision occurred. The incident took place on the evening of June 24 while Air India flight AI2493, operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, was taxiing to its assigned parking stand after landing. According to Air India and aviation sources, the aircraft made an unintended turn while taxiing toward its designated bay, entering an active taxiway instead of following its assigned route. At the same time, IndiGo flight 6E5160, scheduled to operate from Ahmedabad to Mumbai, was taxiing for departure toward the runway. The unexpected movement brought the two Airbus A320-family aircraft onto the same taxiway, leaving them positioned directly opposite each other. According to officials, Air Traffic Control immediately instructed both flight crews to stop. The aircraft came to a halt with an estimated separation of around 200 metres, ensuring that no contact occurred between them. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries to passengers or crew and no damage to either aircraft. Following the incident, the Air India aircraft was assisted back to its designated parking bay with ground support, after which the IndiGo aircraft resumed taxiing and departed safely for Mumbai. The IndiGo flight subsequently landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai. In an official statement, Air India acknowledged that flight AI2493 had taken an unintended turn during taxiing after landing at Ahmedabad on June 24. "We are aware of an incident where our flight AI2493 operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, after landing, inadvertently took a wrong turn during taxiing. There was no compromise on the safety of passengers or crew. The aircraft was subsequently moved to the correct parking bay with ground assistance," the airline said. Air India added that the matter had been reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and an internal investigation had been initiated. IndiGo confirmed that its flight 6E5160 was taxiing for departure to Mumbai when another aircraft entered its taxi path. The airline said both aircraft were stopped immediately as a precaution in coordination with ATC. After the situation was resolved, the flight continued its departure and completed the journey safely. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been informed of the incident and has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the taxiway deviation. Investigators are expected to examine the sequence of taxi instructions issued by ATC, cockpit communications, pilot adherence to taxi clearances, airport ground movement procedures and other operational factors that may have contributed to the incident. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the wrong turn, and no findings have been released regarding whether the deviation resulted from pilot error, misunderstanding of taxi instructions, airport signage, or any other contributing factor.

New Jersey, United States: An Air Canada Express flight bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia, was forced to divert to Boston on Wednesday after the aircraft’s captain suffered a serious medical emergency while the flight was airborne, prompting an emergency response from crew members, passengers and aviation authorities. The incident occurred aboard Air Canada Express Flight AC7664, operated by regional carrier PAL Airlines using a De Havilland Dash 8-400 (Q400) turboprop aircraft. According to Air Canada, the flight departed Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey at approximately 12:55 p.m. EDT on June 24 and was scheduled to operate a routine service to Halifax Stanfield International Airport in Nova Scotia. The aircraft was carrying 61 passengers. Air Canada said the captain experienced a medical issue during the flight and was removed from the flight deck in accordance with established safety procedures. The first officer immediately assumed control of the aircraft and initiated a diversion to Boston Logan International Airport. The airline emphasized that pilots are trained to safely operate and land aircraft independently if circumstances require. Flight-tracking data reviewed by multiple media outlets showed the aircraft had been airborne for roughly an hour when the diversion occurred. Data indicated the aircraft began descending approximately 30 minutes after departure before proceeding toward Boston. The flight, which normally takes about two hours and 15 minutes, did not continue to Halifax as planned. Passengers Describe Sudden Mid-Air Emergency. Several passengers later described a dramatic sequence of events inside the cabin. Passenger Rodney McDonald told ABC News that the situation became apparent when the aircraft suddenly swerved during flight. According to McDonald, the movement did not resemble turbulence and instead felt as though the flight controls had been abruptly disturbed multiple times. "The moment the plane swerved, I knew something was wrong because it was not turbulence," he told ABC News. McDonald said concern quickly spread through the cabin, with passengers fearing a potentially serious emergency. He recalled his children immediately beginning to pray as uncertainty grew over the aircraft's condition. The situation escalated when, according to passenger accounts, a flight attendant rushed into the cockpit before emerging with one of the pilots. McDonald said cabin crew members appeared to be struggling with the incapacitated pilot and requested assistance from passengers. Several travelers responded. Passenger Elizabeth Akinyemi told ABC News that the captain appeared to be suffering what looked like a seizure. She said the medical episode continued for approximately 40 minutes. Witnesses reported that the pilot displayed erratic behavior and at times attempted to return to the cockpit while experiencing the medical event. McDonald said he and approximately four other passengers helped crew members restrain the captain in the cabin while the first officer continued flying the aircraft toward Boston. No injuries among passengers were reported safe Landing In Boston. The first officer successfully diverted and landed the aircraft at Boston Logan International Airport at approximately 2 p.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration later confirmed that Air Canada Flight 7664 landed safely after the crew reported a pilot medical emergency. Massachusetts State Police said authorities were notified at approximately 1:37 p.m. that a crew member had suffered a medical emergency and that the aircraft was being flown by the co-pilot. State police patrol units and a marine unit responded as a precaution ahead of the aircraft's arrival. Television footage from Boston showed emergency vehicles surrounding the aircraft shortly after landing. Massport Fire Rescue personnel and Boston EMS crews met the aircraft on the runway. Video and aerial footage captured emergency responders bringing a stretcher to the aircraft before transporting the pilot from the airplane. The captain was subsequently taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment. Officials have not publicly disclosed the pilot's identity, medical condition or the precise nature of the medical emergency. Passengers Continue Journey. Following the safe landing, Air Canada said it began making alternate travel arrangements for affected passengers. The passengers were expected to continue their journey to Halifax later the same day. The FAA has not announced any formal investigation beyond its standard review procedures associated with in-flight medical emergencies.

Las Vegas, United States: A British Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operating Flight BA271 from London Heathrow Airport to Las Vegas landed safely at Harry Reid International Airport on June 15 after a passenger's cellphone caught fire during the flight, prompting the crew to request assistance upon arrival. According to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident occurred while the aircraft was approaching Las Vegas after a flight of approximately nine and a half hours. The crew reported that a mobile phone had caught fire inside the passenger cabin and caused scorching to part of the cabin interior. Air traffic control audio recorded during the flight captured a pilot informing controllers that the aircraft was making an emergency arrival into Las Vegas following a cabin fire. "We've had a fire in the cabin," the pilot said. The crew later clarified that the source of the fire was a mobile phone and reported that it had "scorched the inside of the cabin" but that the situation was under control. As the aircraft neared its destination, the crew requested what was described as "maximum assistance" upon arrival. The pilot asked airport personnel to help deplane passengers in an orderly manner while minimizing concern inside the cabin. "We're trying to keep the panic to a minimum in the cabin," the pilot said in the radio transmission. Airport officials confirmed that British Airways alerted authorities to the onboard fire before landing. The Clark County Fire Department dispatched emergency units to respond to the aircraft as a precaution. The FAA said Flight BA271 landed safely at Harry Reid International Airport at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time. Airport officials stated that the fire had been extinguished before landing and that the aircraft taxied normally to the gate. British Airways said passenger and crew safety remained its highest priority throughout the incident. "The safety of our customers and crew is the highest priority, the flight landed safely and customers disembarked normally," the airline said in a statement. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew members, and passengers exited the aircraft through normal procedures after arrival. While some media reports described the event as an emergency arrival, British Airways told CBS News that the aircraft arrived as scheduled and did not formally declare an emergency despite the onboard fire report. The FAA has opened an investigation into the incident. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the passenger involved, the make or model of the cellphone, the exact location of the device within the cabin, or what may have caused the battery to ignite. FAA data show that lithium battery-related incidents continue to be a concern for airlines worldwide. The agency recorded 82 such incidents during 2025 and had already logged 40 incidents in 2026 as of June 15.
