The flight was en route to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport when the issue occurred. According to the airline, the flight crew promptly identified the mechanical issue and executed an emergency diversion to LAX, where the aircraft landed safely at approximately 8:15 a.m. local time. There were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew, and the aircraft taxied to a gate without further incident. Southwest Airlines confirmed that all passengers were accommodated on alternate flights to reach their intended destination. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the engine failure to determine the cause and ensure compliance with safety regulations. No official FAA or NTSB statement has yet confirmed the detailed technical cause. Prior to this, on July 18, 2025, Delta Airlines Flight 446, a Boeing 767, experienced an engine fire shortly after takeoff from LAX. The aircraft returned to the airport and made an emergency landing. Emergency crews responded promptly, and all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated via emergency slides. No injuries were reported.

According to court documents, Ballot repeatedly rubbed the inner thigh of a 17-year-old passenger seated next to him. The victim, traveling with her mother and a family friend, attempted to push Ballot’s hand away and immediately notified both her mother and the flight crew, who intervened to stop the assault. The case proceeded to trial in U.S. District Court in Seattle, where the jury, after a two-day hearing, deliberated for roughly one hour before returning a guilty verdict. The case emphasized serious violation of the victim’s personal safety and trust during a routine commercial flight. Ballot faces a statutory maximum sentence of two years in federal prison. U.S. District Judge John H. Chun is scheduled to hear sentencing arguments on December 15, 2025. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), with the prosecution handled by Assistant United States Attorneys. Minnesota, United States: In a tragic aviation accident Saturday afternoon, a Robinson R66 helicopter crashed and ignited near Lakeville roughly 25 miles south of Minneapolis resulting in the deaths of all individuals aboard. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have initiated a detailed investigation. The helicopter, a five-seat single-engine turbine Robinson R66, went down at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time in a remote, non-commercial area near Highview Avenue and 219th Street West, just west of Airlake Airport. Upon impact, the aircraft burst into flames. Authorities confirmed no one on the ground was harmed. First responders, including Lakeville police and fire units, located the wreckage and determined there were no survivors. FAA officials informed People that two people were on board at the time of the crash. The identities of the deceased remain undisclosed as the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office is handling victim identification and next-of-kin notification. The NTSB is leading the investigation, working in collaboration with the FAA to determine the cause of the crash. Investigators will examine flight tracking data, weather conditions, pilot history, aircraft maintenance records, air traffic control communications, and other relevant evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events. Flight DL56 departed Salt Lake City at approximately 4:45 p.m. local time with 275 passengers and 13 crew members aboard About 40 minutes into flight, while cruising at around 37,000 to 38,000 feet over Wyoming, the aircraft abruptly climbed roughly 1,000 feet, then dropped nearly 2,300 feet within 90 seconds Pilots declared a medical emergency and diverted the aircraft to MSP, landing safely at around 7:45 p.m. local time. Emergency medical teams and airport fire crews were staged at the gate. Seven crew members and 18 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals for evaluation and treatment. By Thursday morning, Delta confirmed that all hospitalized individuals who shared their status had been released. Passengers described chaos inside the cabin during the incident. Eyewitnesses recounted that service carts were launched into the ceiling, and unbelted travelers were thrown violently into the air before falling back to the cabin floor. A passenger told ABC affiliate KSTP, “If you didn’t have your seat belt on they hit the ceiling and then fell to the ground, the carts also hit the ceiling and people were injured,” adding that it happened multiple times and was extremely frightening. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the event, Delta reiterated that safety is its top priority and that its Delta Care Team is working directly with affected travelers to meet their needs. The airline also stated that passengers will be able to complete their journey to Amsterdam on a dedicated flight scheduled for Thursday evening This incident comes amid a growing body of evidence linking turbulence-related injuries to climate-driven changes in atmospheric dynamics. A 2023 analysis by the University of Reading found that severe turbulence over the North Atlantic increased by 55% between 1979 and 2020, attributed to stronger wind shear and shifts in jet stream patterns. Aviation experts warn that such conditions may become more frequent, raising concerns about in‑flight safety.
