Aircraft Crashes

Florida, United States: A small twin-engine aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing on the southbound side of Interstate 95 in Brevard County on Monday evening, striking a car in traffic as it descended. The plane identified as a multi-engine Beechcraft 55 came down near mile marker 201 in Cocoa at approximately 5:45 p.m., according to local authorities. The aircraft collided with a 2023 Toyota Camry being driven southbound, causing the car to be crushed against the median and scattering debris across multiple lanes. The Camry’s driver, a 57-year-old woman, was transported to Viera Hospital with what were described as minor injuries. Both the 27-year-old pilot and a 27-year-old passenger aboard the aircraft escaped without injury. Eyewitnesses described a harrowing scene. One bystander, who captured dash-cam footage of the crash, said the plane appeared to “drop out of the sky” and impact the rear of the car before sliding to a halt. Others at the scene including two nurses among passing motorists rushed to assist the driver. Authorities including the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched an investigation, with support from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Preliminary findings indicate the aircraft lost power in both engines before the emergency landing. There are no reports of fuel leaks, and traffic on the interstate which had been blocked in both directions for several hours was restored by around 9 p.m. local time. Officials have appealed to anyone with video footage or additional information to contact the NTSB, as investigators continue their probe into what caused the dual-engine failure. This was the second small-aircraft emergency reported in Florida on December 8. Earlier that afternoon, a Cessna 172 made an emergency landing on Jacobs Road in DeLand, about 46 miles north of Orlando. The single-engine plane came down around 2 p.m., according to reports from Fox 13 News. No major injuries were reported in that incident.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police Lokendra Singh, the aircraft veered off during take‑off and nosedived into scrubland adjacent to the airstrip just as authorities were preparing the runway for an emergency airlift of an injured soldier. “The solo pilot miraculously escaped without injuries,” he told IANS. Eyewitnesses described a sudden loss of control, followed by a plume of dust and debris as the plane left the runway and hit rough terrain. The aircraft reportedly did not catch fire, and there was no immediate sign of a major structural breakup. Dhana Airstrip located in Sagar district serves as the primary training base for Chimes Aviation Academy. CAA lists the Dhana facility among its certified flying bases. The accident renews scrutiny over repeated safety‑related incidents at Dhana. CAA and the local administration have not yet released a detailed statement. An investigation is expected to determine whether pilot error, technical failure or runway/airstrip conditions caused the mishap. Similar Training Aircraft Crash At Seoni Two Days Ago About two days ago, a training aircraft belonging to Redbird Flight Training Academy crashed near Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh. According to police and local reports, the aircraft struck a 33 kV high‑voltage power line while preparing to land near the village of Amgaon, roughly 2 km from Suktara Airstrip. The wing’s impact severed the line, leading to a crash in a nearby field; both the pilot and the flight instructor identified as Ajit Anthony (instructor) and Ajit Chawda (trainee) sustained injuries but are now out of danger. In addition to the human injuries, the accident caused electricity disruption around 80–90 villages under the local power‑substation were plunged into darkness. Previous Training Aircraft Incidents at Chimes Aviation Academy 6 April 2009, a training aircraft of Chimes Aviation Academy, a Cessna 172R registered VT‑CAI departed from Dhana Airstrip on a cross‑country solo training flight. On its return leg near Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh, the aircraft reportedly flew very low over the water, made a low pass near fishermen, and then plunged into the dam. The wreckage was recovered on 29 May 2009, after more than a month, with the aircraft destroyed, the engine hanging and the propeller facing downward. The lone trainee pilot on board tragically died. 3 January 2020, Dhana Airstrip, Sagar (MP), a Cessna 172 training aircraft of Chimes Aviation Academy crashed during landing at Dhana Airstrip. Both the instructor and trainee on board tragically lost their lives in the accident 17 July 2021, Dhana Airstrip, Sagar, a Cessna 172R (VT‑CAG) operated by the academy experienced a runway excursion during take‑off or landing at Dhana Airstrip. The aircraft skidded off the runway, but the trainee pilot escaped unhurt. 6 March 2024, Guna Airstrip, Guna district (MP), a Cessna 172S (VT‑CHP) developed engine trouble mid-flight while traveling from Neemuch to Dhana. The trainee pilot attempted an emergency landing at Guna Airstrip but lost control, crashing into bushes. The pilot was injured, and the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The aircraft went down near the village of Ivankovo, in the central Ivanovo Region, northeast of Moscow. The crash occurred during what the Russian Ministry of Defence described as a “post-repair test flight”. The An-22, a heavy-lift turboprop transport aircraft in service with the Russian Armed Forces was reportedly undergoing maintenance before the flight. According to preliminary statements from emergency services and the ministry, there were seven people onboard at the time of the crash. Rescue crews and a commission from the Russian Aerospace Forces have been dispatched to the site. Investigators have already launched a probe, reportedly focused on possible violations of flight-preparation or maintenance protocols. Within hours of the accident, the Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that all 7 members onboard were killed. Witnesses and some media reports claim the An-22 “began to disintegrate mid-air,” with wreckage falling into or near the nearby waterbody, identified as the Uvod Reservoir. Russia’s older military fleet, especially transport aircraft, has come under increasing strain, a situation exacerbated by increased operational demands. The An-22 crash is the latest in a series of accidents involving Russian military transport aircraft. In 2024, another transport aircraft the Ilyushin Il-76 crashed in the same Ivanovo Region, killing all 15 on board. Some analysts attribute this rise in accidents to a combination of factors: aging aircraft, maintenance challenges under international sanctions, and increased tempo of military flights.

According to police, the incident occurred around 6:25–6:30 pm, roughly 2 km from the Suktara airstrip, as the aircraft was preparing to land. Eyewitness accounts describe sparks and a loud explosion as the plane’s wing contacted the line, after which the aircraft plunged into a nearby field. Authorities identified those on board as the instructor pilot Ajit Anthony and trainee pilot Ashok Chawda. Both sustained injuries and were taken to a private hospital in Barapathar. Officials say they are “out of danger.” Local police and power-company staff, aided by villagers, rescued the two pilots from the wreckage soon after the crash. A preliminary probe indicates that the aircraft may have suffered a “technical snag,” possibly an engine malfunction, causing it to lose power as it descended. The wing then struck the overhead power line of the Badalpar Substation, triggering the crash. The impact caused the 33 kV line to snap, immediately tripping the electricity supply. The flight was being conducted solo by a trainee pilot. Initial reports attribute the incident to a faulty landing. Fortunately, the trainee escaped without injury and there was no fire. Months later on August 9, 2025 again a trainer aircraft of Redbird Flight Training Centre crash-landed near Baramati Airport in Pune district. During a routine training sortie at around 8 a.m., the trainee pilot realised one of the aircraft’s tyres was damaged. Upon touchdown, the front wheel detached and the aircraft veered off the taxiway, crossing to the far side of the airfield. Despite the abrupt landing and loss of the wheel, the pilot escaped unhurt.

The aircraft, a Cessna 172 operated by Apollo Flight Training of Gulfport, Mississippi, was conducting a training flight on Monday evening when it disappeared from radar about four miles from New Orleans Lakefront Airport. The flight was carrying a female instructor and a male student, working toward commercial aviation careers. According to company owner Michael Carastro, the instructor and student were both in their mid-20s. The aircraft, a single-engine Cessna, departed from Million Air in Gulfport around 5:45 p.m. Monday, bound for a training approach to New Orleans Lakefront Airport. Radio contact was lost around 6:23–6:40 p.m., roughly four miles offshore over the lake. Search efforts by the United States Coast Guard (USCG), along with local agencies including wildlife and fisheries and parish sheriff’s offices, began shortly after the plane disappeared from radar. A MH-60 helicopter and a 29-foot Coast Guard boat were deployed from the New Orleans station.
