Emergency responders arrived to find the aircraft upside down after it came to rest on or near the roadway. The aircraft was carrying two occupants, both of whom were able to exit the aircraft on their own before first responders arrived. They were treated at the scene and transported to local hospitals with injuries that authorities described as non-life-threatening or stable. No injuries were reported on the ground. The Layton Fire Department, Layton Police Department, and North Davis Fire District responded to the scene and secured the area while paramedics treated the occupants. Firefighters also mitigated potential hazards associated with the overturned aircraft before the site was turned over to federal investigators. In an official statement, the Layton Fire Department said: "Both occupants self-extricated prior to emergency crews arriving and were transported to local hospitals." The department added that the crash remains under investigation by federal authorities. Authorities temporarily closed portions of State Route 193 to allow emergency operations and preserve the crash site for investigators. The aircraft remained at the location overnight while documentation and recovery efforts were carried out. A nearby resident told local media the aircraft appeared to descend unusually low before impact. Eyewitness video circulating online reportedly captured the airplane's final moments before the crash, with witnesses suggesting the engine sounded abnormal just before the aircraft struck the ground. However, officials have not confirmed any mechanical problem or engine failure, and no cause has been determined.

In its official statement, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar said, "Emergency personnel responded this morning to an aircraft mishap on the flightline of Marine Corps Air Station Miramar at approximately 10:00 am local time today, involving an F-35B assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing." The service later added, "The pilot ejected, was transported to a local medical facility in stable condition for evaluation and treatment of non life threatening injuries." The Marine Corps classified the event as a Class A mishap, the military's most serious accident category. A Class A mishap is designated when an aircraft is destroyed, damage exceeds USD 2 million or a fatality occurs. In this case, the classification reflects the destruction of the aircraft even though the pilot survived. Authorities have not determined or announced the cause of the crash. Military officials said the incident remains under investigation and have not indicated whether it resulted from a mechanical failure, pilot error or another factor. No preliminary findings have been released. The aircraft crashed at around 11 a.m. local time in a residential area near Oldenburg after apparently losing altitude for reasons that remain unknown. It struck the pitched roof of a single-family home head-on, becoming embedded in the structure. The aircraft was reportedly a single-engine, four-seat light aircraft manufactured by Italian company Tecnam and had taken off from Bremen shortly before the accident. The two people aboard the aircraft were men aged 65 and 77, both from Bremen, according to police. Initially, authorities confirmed that one occupant had died and said a second person was missing following the crash. Emergency crews spent several hours searching for the missing occupant, with the recovery operation complicated by the aircraft being lodged in the roof and concerns that the damaged house could be structurally unstable. The second occupant was eventually found dead, bringing the confirmed death toll to two. According to the Delmenhorst police department, the deaths of both occupants were established following lengthy and complex recovery operations involving the aircraft wreckage. The initial response was complicated by the position of the aircraft and the condition of the building. Emergency personnel could not safely enter the house from below because of the potential risk of collapse. The aircraft was eventually recovered from the damaged roof, allowing evacuated residents to return to their homes. The wreckage has been secured for further examination. According to Kenmore Air, the aircraft was involved in an accident in Shallow Bay near Sucia Island at around 5:15 p.m. PDT on July 23, or approximately 0015 GMT on July 24. The U.S. Coast Guard said the aircraft made an emergency landing before catching fire. An image released by the Coast Guard showed the seaplane burning while in the water at the crash site.
