New Delhi, India: A Delhi-to-Indore Air India flight AI2913 made a precautionary return to Indira Gandhi International Airport shortly after takeoff on Sunday after the cockpit crew received a fire indication in the aircraft’s right engine. According to Hindustan Times, the pilots acted immediately, declared an emergency, and shut down the affected engine following standard safety protocols. They then requested priority landing clearance from Air Traffic Control and safely brought the aircraft back to Delhi, where fire and rescue teams were on standby as a precaution. Air India confirmed that all passengers and crew members disembarked safely. The airline arranged an alternate aircraft so passengers could continue their journey to Indore with minimal disruption. The affected aircraft has been grounded for a detailed engineering inspection to determine the cause of the fire indication. Air India also notified the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which is expected to review the incident as part of its routine safety oversight. The incident comes a month after an Air India Express flight bound to Doha from Calicut International Airport returned a couple of hours after take-off due to a technical fault.
