New Delhi, India: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to two proposed airline operators Al Hind Air & FlyExpress in a strategic move aimed at expanding competition in India’s domestic aviation market following recent operational turmoil involving market‑leader IndiGo. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said in a social media post that the ministry has met with representatives from three emerging carriers Shankh Air, Al Hind Air and FlyExpress over the past week as part of efforts to encourage new entrants to the sector. While Shankh Air had already received its regulatory clearance earlier, both Al Hind Air and FlyExpress secured their NOCs this week. Al Hind Air is backed by Kerala’s Alhind Group, and FlyExpress is a Hyderabad‑based enterprise traditionally focused on courier and cargo operations. Shankh Air’s proposed business plan includes connecting major cities within Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra and Gorakhpur, with affordable air connectivity options. The government’s approvals come amid heightened scrutiny of India’s aviation market structure. Earlier this month, IndiGo’s failure to fully adapt to new crew rostering regulations triggered the cancellation of thousands of flights, stranding thousands of passengers. Industry analysts and officials have called for greater competition to prevent future systemic shocks. The Civil Aviation Ministry has highlighted existing schemes such as UDAN as instrumental in enabling smaller regional players including Star Air, India One Air and Fly91 to expand connectivity, while stressing there is substantial scope for further growth in what is one of the world’s fastest‑growing aviation markets. In the aftermath of IndiGo’s operational disruption, regulators have initiated multiple reviews. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has taken cognisance of complaints alleging antitrust violations by the airline, which holds a dominant market share. The initial assessment could lead to a detailed investigation if evidence of market abuse is found. IndiGo’s operations, which stabilised in mid‑December with restoration to roughly 2,200 daily flights, are also under regulatory examination. Authorities have imposed temporary fare caps and ordered expedited refunds for affected passengers.   While the approvals for Al Hind Air and FlyExpress signal a policy pivot towards diversification, aviation experts caution that long‑term viability for new carriers hinges on tackling structural challenges such as high operating costs, fuel taxation, and aircraft acquisition bottlenecks. The government’s move to issue NOCs to new airlines reflects a broader strategy to build resilience in India’s air transport sector by reducing over‑dependence on a small number of carriers and enhancing choices for millions of domestic flyers.

Manama, Bahrain: On 3 December 2025, Oman's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) welcomed the decision by leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to create a unified GCC Civil Aviation Authority under the umbrella of the GCC General Secretariat. The resolution, adopted during the 46th session of the Supreme Council in Bahrain, marks a strategic milestone for Gulf-wide aviation cooperation. According to CAA, this move underscores the GCC states’ commitment to harmonize their civil aviation systems in line with evolving global regulatory and technological standards. The unified authority aims to enhance safety, security, sustainability, and overall competitiveness across the region’s aviation sector. In a statement, CAA President Naif bin Ali Al‑Abri said the establishment of the GCC-wide authority represents a continuation of long‑standing Gulf cooperation. He described it as the beginning of a new era of joint action and reaffirmed Oman’s support for deeper integration especially through regulatory modernization, aviation resource development, and unified representation in international aviation forums. The GCC Civil Aviation Authority will work to unify civil aviation regulations and policies among member states, aligning national legislation under a common Gulf framework capable of keeping pace with rapid developments in global aviation. It will also promote cooperation on infrastructure development, including airports and navigation systems, support training and capacity‑building of aviation personnel, and encourage investment. Beyond regulatory and infrastructure harmonization, the authority will coordinate efforts on safety and security standards, environmental sustainability, passenger rights and travel procedures all with the goal of elevating service quality and strengthening the Gulf’s competitiveness in international civil aviation. The CAA highlighted that GCC‑CAA will not only unify regulatory frameworks but will also enhance passenger experience, elevate safety and security standards, and encourage environmentally sustainable practices in line with global civil aviation developments. By consolidating oversight and coordination at the regional level, GCC states aim to boost efficiency, competitiveness, and the global reputation of Gulf aviation. Malé, Maldives: A Boeing 737 MAX 8 belonging to flydubai was damaged on 4 December 2025 after a ground‑services fuel truck struck the aircraft while it was parked at Velana International Airport (MLE), the airline confirmed. The aircraft registration A6‑FMM, operating flight FZ1025 from Dubai (DXB) had just arrived in Malé when the collision occurred on the apron during routine ground handling at approximately 08:50 local time. Reports indicate that the lower left‑hand winglet sustained damage. flydubai swiftly confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely, with no injuries, fuel spillage or fire risk reported. The airline said affected travellers have been re‑accommodated on the next available flights while the damaged aircraft undergoes inspection and repair. The next scheduled leg, a flight from Malé to Colombo, was cancelled as a result of the incident. Authorities at the Maldives airport are expected to launch a formal investigation into the incident, focusing on apron safety protocols, ground‑handling procedures and vehicle movement controls around parked aircraft. flydubai reiterated that the “safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority at all times.” The aircraft will remain grounded until repairs are completed and regulatory standards for airworthiness are satisfied. On 28 November 2025 a Emirates Airbus A380‑842 at Manchester Airport (UK) was struck by a fuel‑truck while parked at a gate, during routine turnaround after arrival from Dubai. The collision damaged the cowling of the engine intake though there was no fuel leak, fire or injuries and forced cancellation of the return flight EK18 to Dubai. The aircraft remained grounded for inspections and repairs, and took off again on 30 November for flight EK20 to Dubai, signalling the damage was deemed repairable.

The MoU was announced during the Dubai Airshow 2025, highlighting flydubai’s strategic growth plans aligned with Dubai’s long-term economic vision. The signing ceremony included Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, and Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer. Sheikh Ahmed described the MoU as a “landmark” agreement that goes beyond fleet expansion, underscoring flydubai’s role in supporting Dubai World Central (DWC), the emirate’s growing aviation hub. Until now, flydubai has operated an exclusively Boeing 737 fleet. The inclusion of Airbus A321neos marks a strategic diversification of its narrow-body fleet, providing more operational flexibility and positioning the airline to meet increasing demand on regional and international routes. Analysts note that diversifying suppliers reduces dependency risks and strengthens negotiating leverage. The airline said it was “considering its options” and warned passengers not to travel to airports unless they had made alternative arrangements. The sudden halt ended more than two decades of operations for the airline that connected Guernsey and Jersey with airports across the UK and parts of Europe. Blue Islands whose fleet consisted of ATR 72 turboprops grounded its aircraft as staff and passengers learned of the closure late on Friday. In its media statement the carrier said it regretted the disruption and advised customers with bookings to contact their booking agent or payment provider for refunds and further guidance. The airline also referred passengers with codeshare bookings to the partner carrier named on their ticket. Local authorities in the Channel Islands said they were urgently assessing the fallout for passengers and staff. The collapse said Blue Islands’ decision followed unsuccessful attempts to secure a last-minute financial lifeline. Reports indicate the Government of Jersey had been unable to provide further support, leaving the airline with no viable option but to suspend operations. Regional operators moved quickly to plug gaps left by Blue Islands. Loganair announced it would operate flights on several former Blue Islands routes and offer special “rescue fares” to help stranded travellers, with services planned between Jersey, Guernsey and key UK airports from as early as the weekend following the suspension. Aurigny and other operators also confirmed they were coordinating to provide additional capacity where possible. Passengers affected by cancellations were advised by the airline and local broadcasters not to travel to airports unless they had confirmed onward travel. Those seeking refunds were told to contact the company they booked through or their card issuer. Industry guidance also suggested passengers on package holidays contact their tour operator. Blue Islands’ collapse comes amid a turbulent period for small regional carriers in the UK market, following other recent failures that have reduced seat capacity on short-haul and island routes. Analysts say a combination of rising operating costs, labour pressures and thin margins for short regional sectors has left several carriers exposed. The immediate priorities for governments and airports will be to restore reliable services for island communities and to manage the economic and employment impact.

Singapore: The Asia-Pacific region has officially surpassed its pre-pandemic aviation capacity, marking a significant milestone in the industry’s recovery from COVID-19. According to aviation data provider OAG, total seat capacity in the region now stands 0.5% higher than in 2019, driven primarily by robust domestic markets in countries such as India, China, and Indonesia. Independent aviation analyst Brendan Sobie described the rebound as “delayed but now very strong,” emphasizing that Asia-Pacific’s recovery trailed behind other global markets due to prolonged travel restrictions and uneven reopening policies. However, once borders reopened, pent-up demand for air travel surged, supported by economic resilience and a growing middle-class population. “The younger population and the expanding middle class are fundamental drivers of aviation growth in this region,” Sobie said. “These demographic factors are creating long-term, sustainable demand for air travel.” Domestic travel has been the engine behind the region’s growth. Data from OAG shows that China’s domestic capacity is 14% higher than 2019 levels, while India’s domestic seat capacity is up by 13%, reflecting the strength of internal connectivity and economic activity. Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and China Eastern are leading the growth in international seat capacity. Singapore Airlines is one of three Asia-Pacific carriers that have exceeded their 2019 international capacity, operating 14.1% more seats than in 2024. The other two are Scoot (+13.8%) and EVA Airways (+4.5%). The ticket prices across the region have dropped because of rapid capacity growth and tougher competition. Fares on 17 of the 20 fastest-growing routes have fallen by over 20%, with Bangkok–Shanghai (BKK–PVG) seeing the steepest decline of 71% year-on-year. Even as international capacity continues to recover more gradually, the rapid expansion of domestic networks has allowed airlines to stabilize operations and rebuild financial strength. The recovery is also being shaped by rapid technological transformation across airlines and airports. In Singapore, Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has embraced digital solutions to improve operational efficiency. The airline’s virtual Operations Command Center (OCC), developed in partnership with OutSystems, enables real-time monitoring of flight operations and proactive disruption management. According to Leonard Tan, Regional Vice President at OutSystems, the system has improved data visibility by 90% and reduced manual processing by 60%, allowing Scoot to respond faster to operational challenges. “By digitizing core operational workflows, airlines can make better decisions, reduce costs, and enhance passenger experience,” Tan explained. The Asia-Pacific region’s aviation growth is now outpacing global averages, reflecting both market resilience and structural shifts toward efficiency. The airline states that this decision follows a comprehensive review aimed at consolidating operations to enhance service reliability, especially with the introduction of new aircraft like the Airbus A220 and Q400 turboprops. In response, the Transport Workers Union (TWU) has strongly criticized the move, arguing that it prioritizes profits over people and will harm regional communities and staff stability. A survey conducted by the TWU, Australian and International Pilots Association (AIPA), and the Australian Federation of Air Pilots (AFAP) found that 68% of affected pilots would need to consider other employment if the bases closed, with one in five already impacted by recent closures in Perth and Cairns. The closures come as QantasLink posted near-record profits of $2.39 billion. The airline was recently fined a record $90 million by the Federal Court for illegally outsourcing 1,800 ground workers. Despite the base closures, Qantas will continue to employ over 120 staff at its Hobart Contact Centre and plans to hire an additional 13 employees soon Political leaders, including Transport Minister Catherine King also criticized the closures, urging Qantas to reconsider and safeguard local jobs.
