Santa Cruz, United States: Joby Aviation has filed a lawsuit against rival Archer Aviation, alleging that the company gained an unfair competitive advantage by using confidential business information taken by a former Joby executive. The complaint, lodged in Santa Cruz County Superior Court, claims the misconduct allowed Archer to pursue a more lucrative arrangement with one of Joby’s key real-estate partners. According to the filing, Joby accuses former employee George Kivork, its ex-head of U.S. state and local policy, of downloading and transferring internal documents days before resigning in July and joining Archer. Joby Aviation says the files included details on partnership agreements, regulatory strategies, vertiport infrastructure plans, and operational data related to its electric aircraft. A forensic review cited in the lawsuit found that Kivork allegedly emailed dozens of files to his personal account and altered permissions on hundreds more, enabling him to retain access after his departure. Joby Aviation argues that Archer later approached a strategic real-estate developer with insight drawn from the leaked information, attempting to outbid Joby’s existing agreement. The company is seeking unspecified monetary damages and an injunction to stop Archer Aviation from using any of the disputed materials. Archer Aviation has rejected the accusations. In a statement, Eric Lentell, Archer’s Chief Legal and Strategy Officer, said the lawsuit “is entirely without merit” and lacks identification of any specific trade secrets. He added that the company has no agreement with the developer referenced in Joby’s complaint and criticised the lawsuit as an attempt to disrupt competitive dynamics in the emerging electric air-taxi sector. The dispute comes as both firms accelerate toward FAA certification and negotiate infrastructure and development partnerships essential for future eVTOL services. Archer previously faced a similar trade-secrets battle with Wisk Aero, which was settled in 2023, but maintains that its compliance systems prevent misuse of any proprietary information from former employees’ previous employers. The court has scheduled the first hearing for March 20, 2026, with the case expected to progress through motions and discovery well into next year.

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi (CCAD), part of the M42 network, has partnered with Archer Aviation Inc. to develop the UAE’s first hospital-based vertiport, paving the way for next-generation urban air mobility in the healthcare sector. The announcement was made through Archer’s official investor release and verified by eVTOL Insights. According to the statement, the vertiport will be established under the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) recently introduced hybrid conversion framework, which allows existing helipads to be upgraded for dual operations supporting both traditional helicopters and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The initiative will see Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s current helipad transformed into a hybrid vertiport, facilitating advanced aerial logistics such as, Rapid medical transport, including time-critical organ delivery for transplants, Non-emergency patient transfers between medical facilities and visitor and staff transport, reducing ground traffic and emissions. Archer will deploy its Midnight eVTOL aircraft, a four-passenger electric aircraft designed for short-distance urban air mobility missions. The Midnight aircraft produces significantly lower noise levels and zero in-flight emissions, aligning with the UAE’s sustainability goals and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s environmental responsibility framework. “Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi continues to explore innovative solutions that enhance patient care and sustainability,” said Dr. Georges-Pascal Haber, CEO of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. “Integrating vertiport operations into our medical transport system will expand access to high-quality care while advancing Abu Dhabi’s leadership in future mobility.” Bryan Bernhard, Chief Growth & Infrastructure Officer at Archer Aviation, added, “This partnership demonstrates how advanced air mobility can transform essential services. Our goal is to make safe, efficient, and sustainable aerial transport a practical reality for healthcare.” The hospital-based vertiport is part of Archer’s broader Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) roadmap for the UAE, following its earlier approval for a hybrid vertiport at the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal. Both initiatives support the Emirate’s ambition to establish a connected network of vertiports that link key transport hubs, business districts, and critical infrastructure such as hospitals. While the companies have not yet disclosed a construction timeline or operational date, the project remains under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) phase. Detailed engineering plans, regulatory approvals, and site-specific assessments will follow in collaboration with the GCAA, Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), and Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT). Once operational, the vertiport will serve as a model for other medical facilities across the UAE and the wider GCC region, signaling the integration of clean aviation technology into healthcare logistics.
