Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Etihad Airways delivered its strongest financial and operational performance in the airline’s history for the full year 2025, marking robust growth, network expansion and enhanced customer experience, the carrier announced on 24 February 2026. The Abu Dhabi-based flag carrier reported a profit after tax of AED 2.6 billion (US $698 million), a 47 % year-on-year increase compared with 2024. This marked the airline’s fourth consecutive year of profitability and reflected sustained demand across global markets. Etihad carried 22.4 million passengers in 2025, up 21 % year-on-year, supported by a 21 % increase in capacity and available seat kilometres (ASK) of 111.5 billion. Passenger load factor improved to 88.3 % (+2 percentage points), illustrating strong demand across its international network. Total revenue rose 21 % year-on-year to AED 30.7 billion (US $8.4 billion), driven by both passenger and cargo operations. Passenger revenue jumped 24 % to AED 25.8 billion (US $7.0 billion), while cargo revenue increased 8 % to AED 4.5 billion (US $1.2 billion), supported by higher capacity and cargo volumes that grew 9 % to more than 700,000 leg tonnes. Operating performance strengthened significantly. EBITDA climbed 37 % year-on-year to AED 6.3 billion (US $1.7 billion), resulting in a 20 % EBITDA margin (+2 percentage points). Etihad’s profit margin improved to 8.4 % (+1.5 percentage points), more than double the global airline industry average of 3.9 %, according to IATA estimates. Strong cash generation remained a hallmark of the year, with operating cash flow approaching AED 8.0 billion (more than US $2 billion). This enabled the airline to fully fund its capital expenditure requirements and reduce debt. Etihad expanded its operating fleet to 127 aircraft, the largest in its history, with 29 aircraft added during 2025. The enlarged fleet supported growth across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. The airline’s network grew from 94 to 110 destinations, bolstering global connectivity and reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s positioning as a major aviation hub. Etihad’s growth helped drive tourism to Abu Dhabi. Point-to-point traffic rose by 900,000 passengers to 5.5 million compared with 2024, while the stopover visitor count more than doubled to 170,000. The airline accounted for approximately 50 % of total passenger growth across UAE carriers in 2025, highlighting its central role in the nation’s air travel sector. Etihad continued investing in customer experience with product upgrades across cabins, digital enhancements and expanded services. Overall net promoter scores improved year-on-year. The airline also received more than 25 international awards for customer experience, safety and operational performance. Throughout 2025, Etihad welcomed more than 3,200 new employees and promoted around 2,200 staff, including new cabin crew and pilots, further strengthening its operational capabilities. Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said, “2025 has been a defining year for Etihad, delivering our strongest performance across every key metric and marking our fourth consecutive year of profitability. These results confirm that our strategy is working, growing sustainably, strengthening our financial position, and continuing to deliver a high-quality experience for our guests.” With a strengthened financial position, an expanded fleet and a broader global footprint, Etihad enters 2026 poised for continued growth, deeper market penetration and ongoing contribution to Abu Dhabi’s economic and tourism strategies.

New Delhi, India: IndiGo has inducted India’s first Airbus A321XLR aircraft, marking a major milestone in the airline’s long-term international expansion and positioning narrow-body operations for longer intercontinental routes. The aircraft arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, on Tuesday and will begin commercial operations later this month. The airline will deploy the A321XLR on its upcoming non-stop services from Mumbai to Athens starting January 23, followed by Delhi–Athens flights from January 24, with both routes operating three times a week. These services will provide India’s first direct connectivity to Greece, significantly reducing travel time compared to one-stop itineraries via West Asia or Europe. The Airbus A321XLR is the extra-long-range variant of the A321neo family, offering a range of up to 8,700 kilometres with improved fuel efficiency. The aircraft enables airlines to operate thinner long-haul routes that were previously uneconomical for wide-body aircraft. IndiGo said the induction aligns with its strategy to expand medium- and long-haul international operations while maintaining cost discipline. The aircraft features a dual-class configuration with 12 ‘IndiGoStretch’ premium seats and 183 economy seats, equipped with RECARO seating designed for long-duration flights. According to the airline, the premium IndiGoStretch cabin is arranged in a 2-2 layout with a 44-inch seat pitch, while economy seats offer a 31-inch pitch. The cabin includes in-seat power, adjustable headrests, improved recline, and device holders. IndiGo has partnered with Bluebox to provide a wireless inflight entertainment system accessible on passengers’ personal devices. On the Athens routes, the airline will offer complimentary hot meals and beverages, with vegetarian meals as default and non-vegetarian options available through pre-booking. Alcoholic beverages will be complimentary for IndiGoStretch passengers and available for purchase in economy. IndiGo has a firm order for 40 Airbus A321XLR aircraft, with nine deliveries expected during calendar year 2026. After the initial Athens deployment, future A321XLRs are planned for routes such as Istanbul and Denpasar (Bali). The airline has also indicated that subsequent deliveries will support expansion into new destinations across Europe and East Asia. IndiGo Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers said the induction of the A321XLR would allow the airline to reach new international markets and strengthen India’s global air connectivity. Airbus and engine manufacturer CFM International described the delivery as a significant step in expanding long-range single-aisle operations from India. The entry of the A321XLR into Indian service is viewed as a structural shift in international network planning, enabling point-to-point connectivity on long sectors without the capacity and cost burden of wide-body aircraft. Hanoi, Vietnam: Vietnam’s aviation industry is solidly recovering from the pandemic downturn, with sustained increases in passenger and cargo traffic this year and projections pointing toward double-digit growth in 2026. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) projects that total passenger throughput for 2025 will reach approximately 84 million, an 11.4% rise over 2024, while air cargo is expected to finish the year at around 1.4 million tonnes. Domestic and international travel continue to expand, reflecting strengthening demand both within Vietnam and from abroad. Passenger volume figures show significant gains across the year: data from the first nine months of 2025 estimate about 64.1 million passengers transported and 1.1 million tonnes of cargo, up 10.7% and 18.7% year-on-year, respectively. The recovery is consistent with earlier data showing a strong first half of the year, when total air passengers reached 41.3 million, recording 10% growth compared with the same period in 2024. Vietnam’s broader economic resilience bolsters aviation growth. Robust tourism demand and rising consumer travel have contributed to consistent increases in airline traffic. Analysts also note that the return of international markets including resumed flights to Russia and expanded Asian connections is supporting sustained expansion. Market forecasts suggest the sector’s long-term potential remains strong, with industry research forecasting overall passenger and cargo demand to continue rising through 2030. Vietnam’s position within the Southeast Asian aviation market, already among the fastest-growing in the region, is expected to strengthen further as international connectivity increases and infrastructure improves. Despite robust growth, the industry faces operational and capacity challenges. On-time performance and cancellations have drawn scrutiny due to schedule disruptions, while some airports operate beyond designed traffic capacity. Safety and security have also been highlighted as policy priorities. Recent directives from the Prime Minister’s office emphasize that aviation safety systems must meet stringent international standards amid rapid expansion. Building on 2025’s gains, market analysts and CAAV projections suggest that Vietnam’s aviation industry is poised for double-digit growth next year, with passenger numbers and cargo volumes set to expand further as international demand normalizes and new routes come online. Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia is preparing to launch three new airlines, a significant expansion of its aviation ecosystem as the kingdom accelerates its Vision 2030 strategy to boost tourism, improve connectivity and transform into a global aviation hub. Fahd Hamidaddin, CEO of the Saudi Tourism Authority, confirmed the plan, saying the new carriers will complement the existing network led by Saudia, Riyadh Air, flynas and flyadeal. “A successful national airline builds a destination, Riyadh Air, Saudia and three more air carriers to be announced,” he said. The first of the three new carriers will be a low-cost airline based at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. The airline will be operated by a consortium comprising Air Arabia, Nesma Group, and KUN Holding, after the group won the government tender earlier this year. According to public disclosures, the new LCC plans to operate 45 aircraft by 2030, fly 24 domestic and 57 international routes, and handle around 10 million passengers annually. It is also expected to generate approximately 2,400 direct jobs once fully operational. Istanbul, Turkey: Turkish Airlines (THY) announced on September 26, 2025, a landmark fleet expansion, planning to acquire up to 225 Boeing aircraft in a deal worth billions of dollars. This move is part of the airline’s strategy to operate an entirely new-generation fleet by 2035. The airline’s board has approved the purchase of 75 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including 50 firm orders and 25 options for the B787-9 and B787-10 models. Deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2034, according to a statement filed with Istanbul's Public Disclosure Platform (KAP). Turkish Airlines is also negotiating with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace for engines, spare parts, and maintenance services for the 787 fleet. Additionally, the airline has finalized discussions with Boeing for 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, 100 firm orders and 50 options covering the 737-8 and 737-10 MAX variants. These 737 MAX orders are contingent upon completing engine agreements with CFM International. “Through these acquisitions, our fleet will consist entirely of new-generation aircraft by 2035, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting an estimated 6% annual growth rate,” the airline said.
