Delhi: Air India has dismissed a simulator trainer pilot following allegations of negligence in conducting recurrent simulator training sessions. The decision was made after a whistleblower reported concerns regarding the trainer’s conduct, prompting an internal investigation.
According to Air India, the inquiry confirmed that the trainer had not properly carried out his duties, leading to his termination. Additionally, ten pilots who trained under him have been removed from flying duties as a precaution while further assessments take place.
The airline has reported the matter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and has acknowledged the whistleblower for bringing the issue to light.
In a statement, Air India said, “Immediately following the privatisation of Air India under the Tata group, the airline implemented the Tata Code of Conduct to establish clear behavioural expectations and accelerate cultural change to that of a Tata Group Company.”
To uphold ethical standards across the organisation, the airline has introduced structured training programs for employees. These cover key topics such as anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and whistleblowing.
Air India stated that it has taken firm action against ethical violations. In 2024 alone, over 30 employees were dismissed for misconduct, while others faced disciplinary measures.
The airline has also set up an Apex Ethics Committee, led by senior management, to oversee compliance with ethical guidelines. Additionally, it has introduced a formal system to document, investigate, and address allegations of misconduct.
Air India emphasised that all complaints are handled independently, ensuring there is no external influence on investigations. The probe into the affected pilots is still underway.
