Atlanta, United States: A LATAM Airlines Peru aircraft suffered multiple tire failures upon landing late Tuesday evening at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, prompting an emergency response and the evacuation of passengers onto the runway, officials said. The wide-body Boeing 767-300ER, operating as Flight 2482 from Lima, Peru, touched down safely at approximately 7:38 p.m. local time after a nonstop flight, according to preliminary data and statements from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Moments after touchdown, several tires on the aircraft’s main landing gear blew out, though the flight crew maintained control and brought the aircraft to a stop on the runway without further incident. Emergency responders, including units from the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, were dispatched to the scene after the airport was alerted to the blown tires. Early reports described the situation as “flat tires on an aircraft.” Video footage shared by on-scene observers showed passengers being guided off the aircraft directly onto the runway surface as mechanics worked under the jet to inspect and stabilize the damaged landing gear. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported among passengers or crew. The FAA has opened an investigation into the cause of the tire failures, though preliminary findings have not yet been released. Portions of the runway were cleared briefly for safety checks, but overall airport operations continued with minimal disruption. Eyewitness accounts and passenger-posted commentary on social media indicate that the landing was perceived as unusually firm, with passengers reporting significant vibration as the aircraft touched down. Some online accounts suggest all eight main wheels may have been affected, though such details have not been confirmed by official sources. LATAM Airlines and partner Delta Air Lines, which have a codeshare agreement on certain routes, have not yet issued a formal statement regarding the incident or confirmed whether any Delta-booked passengers were on board. Airport authorities and airline representatives have been approached for comment. The FAA’s investigation will examine operational, mechanical and environmental factors that may have contributed to the tire blowouts. Similar wheel and tire incidents, while uncommon, have occurred at major airports in the past, typically resulting in emergency responses but rarely causing serious injuries when crews execute safe braking and evacuation procedures.

Missouri, United States: A Delta Air Lines flight en route from Denver to Detroit was forced into an emergency diversion to Kansas City International Airport on January 3 after its crew detected a mechanical failure in one of the aircraft’s engines, authorities and aviation sources confirmed. Delta Flight DL2883, operated by an Airbus A321‑211 aircraft registered N349DX, departed Denver International Airport (DEN) bound for Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) shortly before midday. Approximately 50–60 minutes into the cruise phase, the flight crew identified a serious issue affecting the aircraft’s right‑side (No. 2) engine, prompting them to declare an emergency with air traffic control and request priority handling. Under established procedures for in‑flight mechanical problems, the pilots shut down the malfunctioning engine and diverted the flight to the nearest suitable airport. The Airbus A321 landed safely at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) without further incident. Emergency response units were positioned as a precaution, but the crew taxied the aircraft under its own power once on the ground. All 169 passengers and six crew members exited the aircraft without injury following the unscheduled landing. Delta Air Lines arranged a recovery flight later that evening to transport passengers to their original destination in Detroit, with no additional emergencies reported during the transfer. Delta spokespersons highlighted the airline’s safety protocols, noting that the response was consistent with standard emergency procedures for engine malfunctions. The incident underscores the priority given to flight safety and crew training in handling in‑air technical failures. The affected aircraft remained at Kansas City for inspection by maintenance teams. The investigation into the engine issue, including the cause of the apparent flameout, will involve technical evaluation by Delta maintenance personnel and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) oversight, as is typical in such cases. Delta has since resumed service on the Denver‑Detroit route using a substitute aircraft. Minor schedule adjustments were reported for subsequent DL2883 flights on January 4 as operations normalized following the diversion.

Kathmandu, Nepal: A Buddha Air passenger aircraft skidded off the runway while landing at Bhadrapur Airport on Friday night, in an incident that raised safety concerns but ended with all onboard safe and uninjured, officials and airline sources said. The turboprop aircraft, an ATR 72-500 registered as 9N-AMF, operating as Flight U4-901 from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, overshot the end of the runway late Friday evening and came to rest on grassy ground beyond the runway surface. According to flight and official data, the aircraft landed at approximately 21:06 local time (about 9:06 pm) and overran the runway by an estimated 165–200 metres before stopping near a creek beyond the runway’s end. All 51 passengers and four crew members aboard the flight were evacuated safely with no reported injuries, Nepal Police and airport authorities confirmed. Jhapa district officials said emergency protocols were activated immediately, and passengers were brought out of the aircraft without harm. Buddha Air issued a statement confirming that the aircraft veered off the runway during landing and dispatched a technical and relief team from Kathmandu to assess the plane and manage operational follow-up. The flight was the last scheduled service on the Kathmandu–Bhadrapur sector for the night and was expected to lay over at Bhadrapur Airport before returning to Kathmandu the next morning. Preliminary reports indicate the aircraft sustained damage during the excursion, although the full extent remains under technical evaluation. London, United Kingdom: An Emirates Airbus A380 operating on the busy London–Dubai route made a precautionary return to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) on the afternoon of December 31, 2025, after the flight crew detected a technical issue with the aircraft’s landing gear system shortly after take‑off. Emirates Flight EK002, scheduled to depart Heathrow for Dubai International Airport (DXB), lifted off from Runway 27L at approximately 14:30 GMT but was forced into a holding pattern above southeast London after a sensor indicated a malfunction in the landing gear doors, which did not fully close as designed. As the long‑haul aircraft such as the A380 are heavily fuelled at departure, the aircraft was above its maximum landing weight. Aviation protocols require weight reduction before a safe return can be attempted. Rather than immediately landing overweight, the flight crew elected to circle at around 10,000 ft, allowing fuel to burn off over a period of approximately 90 minutes before approaching Heathrow for landing. Observers on the ground reported seeing the superjumbo in a holding pattern over areas such as Orpington and Kent, drawing attention during one of the year’s busiest travel periods. Once within safe landing weight limits, the A380 touched down at London Heathrow’s Runway 27R at 16:28 GMT without incident. Emergency services were positioned as a standard precaution, though there were no injuries and normal evacuation procedures were followed. In a statement, Emirates confirmed that “Flight EK002 departed London Heathrow for Dubai, but returned shortly after take‑off due to a technical fault.” The airline said passengers and crew were safely disembarked and that those affected would be rebooked on subsequent services. Emirates apologised for the disruption and emphasised that the safety of passengers and crew remains its highest priority. The aircraft involved is an Airbus A380‑800 with the registration A6‑EUF, part of Emirates’ flagship fleet and one of the largest commercial passenger aircraft in service. The A380 is widely used on high‑demand intercontinental routes, carrying up to 500 passengers per flight. Flight tracking platforms indicated the aircraft remained airborne for over an hour as it managed fuel and prepared for a controlled return, a common procedure under such technical circumstances. Given the timing on New Year’s Eve, the incident caused travel disruption during a peak period for global air travel.

Vancouver, Canada: Canadian aviation authorities have launched a formal safety probe after an Air India pilot was found to be under the influence of alcohol before operating an international flight from Vancouver, prompting an inquiry and corrective action demands to the Indian carrier. The incident occurred on December 23, 2025, at Vancouver International Airport ahead of Flight AI186, scheduled to operate from Vancouver to Delhi via Vienna. According to a letter from Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) to Air India officials, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the pilot, identified as Captain Saurabh Kumar, reported for duty while under the influence of alcohol and was deemed unfit for the flight. Canadian authorities conducted two breathalyser tests that confirmed the presence of alcohol, following which the pilot was advised to leave the aircraft and was subsequently removed from duty at the scene. Transport Canada has characterised the occurrence as a violation of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), citing breaches of sections 602.02 and 602.03, which govern crew fitness for duty and alcohol consumption limits, as well as conditions of Air India’s Foreign Air Operator Certificate (FAOC). In its correspondence, Transport Canada has formally asked Air India to investigate the matter under its Safety Management System and submit a detailed corrective action report by January 26, 2026. The regulator indicated that enforcement action by both the RCMP and the TCCA is likely as the review progresses. Air India confirmed that Flight AI186 experienced a last-minute delay on December 23 after the cockpit crew member was offloaded prior to departure “based on concerns raised by the Canadian authorities regarding the pilot’s fitness for duty.” The airline said an alternate pilot was rostered in accordance with safety protocols, resulting in the delayed departure. In an official statement, Air India said it regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers, is fully cooperating with Canadian authorities, and has taken the pilot off flying duties pending the outcome of the inquiry. The airline reiterated a zero-tolerance policy toward violations of applicable rules and regulations, noting that “any confirmed violation will attract strict disciplinary action in line with company policy.” Initial accounts of the incident suggest that the episode first came to light after a duty-free shop employee at the Vancouver airport reported a concern about the pilot either smelling of alcohol or consuming it moments before boarding preparations. This triggered intervention by Canadian authorities and the subsequent breathalyser tests.

Birmingham, United Kingdom: A Ryanair Boeing 737‑8 MAX operating flight FR1121 from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to Tenerife South Airport (TFS) was forced to declare an emergency and return to the UK on 28 December 2025 after encountering severe turbulence that resulted in injuries to several passengers mid‑flight. The aircraft, registered EI‑HGO, departed Birmingham at approximately 14:50 GMT, climbing to a cruising altitude of around 35,000 feet over French airspace near Brest, when it suddenly encountered unexpected and intense turbulence. According to passenger reports and aviation tracking data, cabin service was in progress at the time, with service trolleys in the aisle, which likely contributed to the number and severity of injuries on board. In response to the turbulence and injuries sustained, the flight crew declared a general emergency, squawking transponder code 7700, signalling a critical situation to air traffic control. The aircraft then executed a turnaround and descent, initially descending rapidly from cruise before stabilising at around 10,000 feet during the return flight. The flight made a safe landing back at Birmingham Airport approximately 92 minutes after departure. Emergency services, including paramedics, were stationed at a remote stand to provide immediate medical assistance to passengers affected by the turbulence. A Ryanair spokesperson later confirmed that the aircraft “landed normally” and that a small number of passengers received medical attention on the ground. The airline also stated that FR1121 continued its scheduled flight to Tenerife later that evening after the situation was resolved. Details on the exact number and extent of injuries have not been fully disclosed by Ryanair or medical authorities. Eyewitness accounts collected by aviation reporting services indicate that the turbulence was sudden and significant, causing unsecured passengers and objects to be thrown about the cabin. Severe turbulence, especially at cruising altitude, can occur in clear air without obvious visual warning signs, often related to atmospheric phenomena such as jet streams or weather fronts.
