Warsaw, Poland: LOT Polish Airlines has reported its most successful month in its 96-year history, setting new records in passenger numbers, flight operations, and distance covered in July 2025. The airline transported 1,185,946 passengers, surpassing the previous July 2023 record by over 144,000 travelers. Additionally, LOT operated 11,072 flights, averaging more than 350 per day, and covered a total distance of 15.5 million kilometers, equivalent to approximately 400 trips around the world along the equator or 20 journeys to the moon and back. In July 2025, LOT's aircraft accumulated 25,623 block hours, nearly 1,000 hours more than the previous high in July 2019. This significant increase underscores the airline's capacity to meet rising demand and maintain operational efficiency. European routes to Vilnius, London, and Amsterdam were among the most frequented, reflecting strong demand for both business and leisure travel within Europe. On the long-haul front, flights to Toronto, New York (JFK), and Chicago attracted the highest passenger volumes, indicating a robust appetite for direct connections between Europe and North America. LOT's growth is attributed to its expanding network and strategic route additions. In 2025, the airline launched new services from Kraków to Paris Orly and from Warsaw to Thessaloniki, Malta, Reykjavik, and Lisbon. Further expansion is planned with upcoming routes to Marrakesh and Rovaniemi in the autumn, alongside additional destinations to be announced by the end of the year. Supporting its growth, LOT is enhancing its fleet with the introduction of new aircraft. At the end of 2025, the first of 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft ordered by the airline is expected to arrive in Warsaw from the Boeing factory in Seattle. These new planes, along with previously ordered Airbus A220 aircraft, will play a key role in delivering the airline’s 2024–2028 strategic plan, enabling continued network growth and enhanced service for passengers across both European and long-haul routes. LOT's hub at Warsaw Chopin Airport has been instrumental in its success, with nearly 60% of passengers now traveling as transit passengers.

The aircraft departed from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, heading toward Tirupati. Shortly after takeoff, it encountered a technical anomaly and was immediately redirected back to the bay for mandatory engineering checks halting its journey before it even got underway. After the initial fault was addressed and the aircraft deemed safe to proceed, the plane developed a second technical issue. This recurrence proved more complex, delaying repairs and ultimately rendering continued operation of this sector impractical. Alliance Air opted to cancel the flight in the interest of maintaining operational integrity and minimizing downstream disruptions. “The aircraft again developed another snag for which rectification took a little longer than expected. Due to this, and in order to avoid further disruption of flights, this sector had to be cancelled,” the airline stated. The decision aligns with standard industry protocol during technical setbacks placing passenger safety above schedule adherence. Alliance Air’s fleet includes 18 ATR 72-600s, 2 ATR 42-600s, and a HAL Do-228 aircraft, which serve regional routes such as Hyderabad–Tirupati. On August 20, another Alliance Air flight from Guwahati to Kolkata made an unscheduled emergency landing due to a technical fault, though all passengers were safely deboarded.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as the plane was approaching the airport for landing. According to Gulf Shores Public Information Officer Grant Brown, the aircraft clipped a tree while descending, causing it to spin and crash in a vacant lot situated between Alabama Coastal Community College and the Gulf Shores Tourism Center. The pilot and his wife, who was the passenger, were able to evacuate the plane on their own. Both individuals were conscious and alert when first responders arrived at the scene. They were subsequently transported to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for evaluation and treatment. The crash site was secured by Gulf Shores Police and Fire Rescue, as well as airport management. Fortunately, the incident occurred outside the airport boundaries, so airport operations were not affected, and traffic on Alabama 59 remained unaffected. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified and is expected to send investigators to the scene to determine the cause of the crash. Flight tracking data indicates that the aircraft departed from Paris, Texas, earlier in the day and was en route to Gulf Shores International Airport when the incident occurred. Kuantan, Malaysia: A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet caught fire during take-off at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Airport on Thursday night, prompting both pilots to eject seconds before the aircraft crashed. The incident, which occurred around 9:05 pm, temporarily shut down the airport’s runway and disrupted several commercial flights. The RMAF confirmed in a statement that the twin-seat Hornet suffered a fire during its take-off roll at Kuantan Air Base. “Both pilots successfully ejected and were immediately transported to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital for medical observation,” the Air Force said. Witnesses described the terrifying moment as the aircraft burst into flames, sending smoke billowing into the night sky. One resident said that two loud explosions “sounded like missile strikes” and could be heard nearly a kilometre away. A video of the incident, widely circulated on social media, shows the Hornet engulfed in flames as it attempted to lift off the runway before both crew members ejected. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) declared a temporary “Code Black” runway closure following the accident. In a statement CAAM said the runway would remain shut until 1 pm on Friday, August 22, to facilitate debris clearance and safety checks. The closure affected several scheduled services, including Malaysia Airlines flights MH1268 and MH1269, and Scoot flights TR0470 and TR0471. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for rebooking arrangements. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim extended his well-wishes to the pilots and urged a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the fire. “This incident must be studied thoroughly to ensure the safety of our airmen and the reliability of our defence assets,” Anwar said, as quoted by Malay Mail. The RMAF has launched a formal probe into the accident. No casualties were reported on the ground, and authorities confirmed that the fire was contained within the air base perimeter. The Boeing F/A-18D Hornet is one of the RMAF’s frontline multirole fighters, acquired in the 1990s. The aircraft has seen extensive service, including participation in regional exercises and maritime patrols. The fleet is currently undergoing phased upgrades as part of Malaysia’s defence modernisation plan. While the immediate priority remains the health of the two aircrew, the investigation will focus on determining whether a mechanical failure, engine malfunction, or other technical issues caused the fire. The findings are expected to inform future operational safety measures for the RMAF’s combat fleet. In a separate incident a month ago, five police officers were injured when their AS355N helicopter crashed into the Pulai River during a nuclear security exercise in Johor. Two officers remain in critical condition and are receiving respiratory support in the Intensive Care Unit at Sultanah Aminah Hospital. The remaining three officers are stable. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) confirmed the crash occurred near the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Jetty in Gelang Patah.
