Harrietstown, United States: Three people were killed after a twin-engine Piper Aerostar crashed into a wooded area moments after departing Adirondack Regional Airport in northern New York late Monday night, marking the third aircraft accident reported in the Adirondacks within a week and prompting an investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). According to the New York State Police, the aircraft involved was a 1976 Piper Aerostar, a high-performance twin-engine airplane. Preliminary information indicates the aircraft departed Adirondack Regional Airport in Harrietstown at approximately 10:36 p.m. EDT on July 13, 2026. Shortly after becoming airborne, while climbing to an estimated altitude of only 100 feet above the ground, communication with the aircraft was lost. State Police said they were notified at approximately 11:15 p.m. of a downed aircraft near Hearf's Way and State Route 186, close to the airport. A multi-agency search operation involving state troopers, local emergency responders and other agencies was immediately launched to locate the missing airplane. Search crews later located the wreckage in a heavily wooded area between McMaster Road and State Route 186, northwest of Saranac Lake. Officials said the aircraft had been destroyed by the impact and a subsequent post-crash fire, leaving little of the airplane intact. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the aircraft was carrying three people, the pilot and two passengers and that all three died in the crash. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims pending family notification. Flight tracking data reviewed by several media outlets showed that the aircraft had arrived in the Saranac Lake area earlier on Monday before departing again later that evening from Adirondack Regional Airport. The airplane was registered to Jasper Air LLC, a company based in Toms River, New Jersey. The FAA said the aircraft crashed under unknown circumstances, and investigators have not yet identified what caused the loss of control or why communication ceased almost immediately after takeoff. At this stage, no evidence has been released indicating whether weather, mechanical issues, pilot actions or other factors contributed to the accident. Residents living near the crash site described hearing loud noises shortly before emergency crews arrived. Speaking to local television station WPTZ, resident Jodie Wells recalled the frightening moments after the impact. "We both flew out of bed and ran outside. I could hear some bangs and loud popping. It was scary. It was loud." She added, "We have been sad and out of sorts ever since." Another resident, William Cole, said the sounds initially resembled a thunderstorm. "It definitely sounded almost identical to thunder." According to local reports, a nearby home's doorbell camera reportedly captured the sound of the crash, although authorities have not indicated whether the footage will form part of the investigation. The crash also forced authorities to temporarily close a section of the Adirondack Rail Trail between McMaster Road and Route 186, restricting access for walkers and cyclists while investigators examined the accident scene and documented the wreckage. The closure remained in effect on Tuesday as investigative work continued. The National Transportation Safety Board has assumed responsibility for the investigation, with assistance from the FAA. The agency's investigation is expected to include a review of the aircraft's maintenance history, pilot qualifications, weather conditions, airport surveillance information, communications records and any available flight tracking data before determining the probable cause of the accident. No distress call or emergency declaration has been reported, and officials have not confirmed whether the aircraft experienced any mechanical malfunction before communication was lost. The investigation remains in its early stages, and authorities have cautioned that it may take months before a probable cause is established.

The student, who had been pursuing his dream of becoming a commercial pilot, died in the accident, prompting UAE authorities to launch an investigation into the crash. The deceased student has been identified in regional media reports as Harshal Patidar, 26, son of Saket Ginning proprietor Sunil Patidara and a resident of Anjad in Barwani district, had been living in the UAE with his uncle Ishwar Patidar, assisting in the family’s cotton business. He had travelled to the UAE to undergo commercial pilot training at Fujairah Aviation Academy, one of the country's established flight training institutions. According to the family, the case was being handled by Sharjah Police, while the aviation investigation agency AAIS was also conducting an inquiry into the accident. Harshal had completed an MS in Global Finance from the United States before joining the family business in the UAE. The identity of the flight instructor has not been officially released by the authorities. The accident occurred during a routine training flight near Fujairah. The trainer aircraft crashed approximately 50 kilometres from the academy under circumstances that are yet to be officially explained. UAE emergency responders launched search and rescue operations following the crash. Initial reports indicate that Patidar lost his life in the accident. Media reports further stated that rescue teams recovered the body after the crash, while aviation authorities secured the accident site as part of the ongoing investigation. News of Patidar's death has sent shockwaves through his hometown of Anjad in Barwani district, where family members, relatives and members of the local business community expressed grief over the loss. The aircraft, identified by investigators as a Pacific Aerospace P750XL single-engine turboprop, was being operated by Skydive Kansas City and was carrying a group of skydivers for a scheduled jump flight when the accident occurred near Butler, a town located about 65 miles south of Kansas City. According to Skydive Kansas City, all 12 occupants onboard lost their lives in the crash. "Tragically, all 12 individuals aboard lost their lives in the accident," the company said in a statement, adding that victim identities would not be released until all next of kin had been notified. Dennis Jacobs, acting manager of Butler Memorial Airport and director of the Bates County Emergency Management Agency, said the aircraft departed at approximately 11:20 a.m. local time but appeared unable to climb normally after takeoff. Jacobs told reporters the airplane made a sharp left turn shortly after becoming airborne before crashing roughly 300 yards from the runway. "It had just taken off and made a left turn," Jacobs said. "In my opinion I think it was losing power, and he was trying to make it over to the highway and land, and he stalled and went down nose first and caught fire," he said. Witness accounts and local officials indicated the pilot may have been attempting an emergency landing near a nearby highway before the aircraft descended rapidly and impacted terrain. Authorities said the passengers were participating in a skydiving outing organized by Skydive Kansas City. According to reports, the group included experienced skydivers as well as tandem jump participants preparing for a recreational jump flight. Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Justin Ewing said emergency responders received reports of an aircraft down and engulfed in flames at approximately 11:30 a.m. The aircraft crashed in a field adjacent to the airport and was consumed by fire following impact. Emergency crews extinguished the blaze shortly afterward, but there were no survivors. One of the most tragic aspects of the accident was that several family members of those onboard reportedly witnessed the crash from the ground. Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson said relatives were present at the airport when the aircraft went down. Clergy members, volunteers and grief counselors were mobilized to assist families at the scene while authorities worked to identify victims and notify relatives. Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe said multiple state agencies were responding to support local authorities and affected families."Our prayers are with the community and all those working to help," the governor said. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations into the accident. FAA officials arrived at the crash site Sunday, while an NTSB investigation team was scheduled to arrive Monday to begin documenting evidence, examining the wreckage and interviewing witnesses. The NTSB said a final report determining the probable cause of the accident could take between 12 and 24 months to complete. Authorities have not released any preliminary findings and stressed that the cause remains undetermined.
