Georgia: On January 15, David Paul Allsop, a 52-year-old Southwest Airlines pilot, was arrested at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport on charges of driving under the influence (DUI). The arrest occurred after a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officer noticed the smell of alcohol during a routine screening.
Allsop was scheduled to operate Southwest Airlines Flight 3772 from Savannah to Chicago Midway International Airport. Before the flight, he was observed displaying signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes and a flushed complexion. Allsop admitted to consuming alcohol the previous evening. He was unable to pass a field sobriety test and subsequently refused a blood test.
Southwest Airlines confirmed that Allsop was removed from duty and issued a statement saying, “There’s nothing more important to Southwest than the safety of our employees and customers.”
As a result of the incident, Flight 3772 experienced a delay of nearly five hours. The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 6:05 AM, left close to 11:00 AM.
This incident is being investigated by authorities, and Allsop was taken into custody by local police.
