Antioquia: A small aircraft Cessna 402 operated by Pacífica Travel crashed on January 8th, killing all 10 people on board, including two crew members and eight passengers.

The plane departed from Juradó, Chocó, near the Panamanian border, and was headed to Medellín when it lost communication shortly after takeoff.

Search efforts with 37 personnel were delayed by rough terrain and bad weather, but the wreckage was eventually found in rural Urrao, Antioquia.

Governor Andrés Julián Rendón reported that rescue agencies found no survivors.

By Friday, five bodies had been recovered, with efforts ongoing to retrieve the rest. Helicopter support was not possible due to the remote location.

“The government of Antioquia regrets, with deep sorrow, the sad news of not having found survivors in the aircraft that crashed in Urrao” the governor posted on his X account.

“All of Antioquia joins in the pain of their families, we accompany them and hope that God gives them peace in the midst of so much sadness” he said.

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority is investigating the incident, examining the aircraft’s maintenance, weather conditions, and crew experience.

Pacífica Travel has pledged to assist the victims’ families, while authorities continue efforts to recover the black box recorders for further analysis.
