Mexico City, Mexico: At least seven people were killed Monday when a small private jet crashed in central Mexico while attempting an emergency landing, Mexico State Civil Protection Coordinator Adrian Hernandez said. The accident occurred in San Mateo Atenco, an industrial area roughly 5 kilometers (3 miles) from Toluca International Airport, approximately 50 kilometers west of Mexico City. Officials said the jet was carrying 10 people, eight passengers and two crew members at the time of the crash. The aircraft, a privately owned jet, had departed earlier from Acapulco on Mexico’s Pacific coast and was en route to Toluca when it encountered apparent difficulties mid-flight. According to Adrián Hernández, coordinator of Mexico State Civil Protection, the jet was carrying eight passengers and two crew members at the time of the incident. Officials said the aircraft appeared to be attempting an emergency landing on a nearby open field when it instead struck the metal roof of a business structure, igniting a large fire that spread rapidly through the area. Several hours after the crash, authorities reported that seven bodies had been recovered from the wreckage. Recovery efforts are ongoing and officials have not yet commented on the status of any potentially missing occupants. Local emergency teams, including civil protection, firefighting units, and rescue personnel, responded swiftly to the scene. San Mateo Atenco Mayor Ana Muñiz confirmed that the blaze prompted the precautionary evacuation of around 130 people from nearby businesses. Federal and state aviation authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the crash. No preliminary findings have been released.

India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has launched a probe into the incident. According to officials, all electrical and hydraulic systems remained stable despite the RAT deployment. Routine maintenance checks recommended by Boeing were performed on the aircraft, and no discrepancies were reported. The DGCA has stated that the jet will be cleared to return to service only after thorough inspections are completed. The flight had already been boarded when the problem surfaced. The aircraft was being pushed back from the gate toward the runway when the pilot was alerted to a fault. As a precautionary measure, the pushback was halted and the aircraft returned to the apron for further inspection. The airline’s technical crew attempted repairs for approximately three hours, but the fault could not be fixed. By around 11:30 p.m., the airline announced that the service would not operate. Passengers waited for several hours at the airport before being informed of the cancellation. Subsequently, Akasa Air made arrangements to accommodate the affected passengers in nearby hotels for the night. An Akasa Air spokesperson said “Passengers who chose alternate flight options were provided airport transfers and refreshments. London, United Kingdom: Passengers flying with major UK airlines are experiencing longer delays than before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new analysis. The report, based on Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) data, compared flight punctuality between May 2024 and April 2025 with pre-pandemic figures from 2019, revealing a widespread decline in on-time departures among the country’s leading carriers. The analysis focused on six major airlines: British Airways, easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, Tui, and Wizz Air, and measured punctuality as flights departing within 15 minutes of their scheduled times. The results were striking. Tui emerged as the least punctual, with only 59.2% of flights on time compared to 67.2% in 2019. Jet2 and Ryanair also experienced substantial drops, with Jet2’s on-time departures falling from 81.8% to 68%, and Ryanair from 77.8% to 66.5%. Flag carrier British Airways declined from 71.5% to 68.7%, while easyJet slipped from 70.6% to 67.8%. Wizz Air, although slightly affected, maintained 66% punctuality, nearly matching its pre-pandemic performance. The report also highlighted cancellation rates. British Airways recorded the highest cancellations at 2.33%, while Jet2 had the lowest at 0.12%. Despite the drop in punctuality, airlines have generally operated more flights than in 2019. Ryanair, for example, scheduled approximately 162,411 flights in 2024, some 24,000 more than in 2019, placing additional strain on infrastructure and scheduling. Several factors have contributed to the delays. Staff shortages in Air Traffic Control (ATC) remain a significant issue, with Eurocontrol reporting 10–20% fewer controllers than needed in some parts of Europe. While UK ATC provider NATS maintains that it is fully staffed, unions warn of an impending “retirement bulge” among controllers, which could intensify operational pressures. Airspace constraints, driven by geopolitical conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and other regional tensions, have further limited usable routes, creating congestion in available corridors. Washington, United States: The U.S. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a civil penalty of $3.1 million against Boeing for what it described as “widespread quality system violations” linked to the company’s 737 production line. The enforcement action covers violations identified between September 2023 and February 2024 at Boeing’s Renton, Washington facility and at Spirit AeroSystems’ plant in Wichita, Kansas. According to the FAA, Boeing presented two aircraft as airworthy for certification even though they did not meet all applicable safety requirements, and in some cases pressured employees to approve work to meet production deadlines. “The safety of the flying public is our top priority, and we will hold Boeing accountable for meeting regulatory standards,” the FAA said in a statement, noting that Boeing has 30 days to respond to the proposed penalty. The proposed fine comes months after a highly publicized incident in January 2024 when a door plug panel blew off an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 shortly after takeoff, forcing an emergency landing. One flight attendant and 7 passengers received minor injuries, the captain, the first officer, 3 flight attendants, and 164 passengers were uninjured and the airplane sustained substantial damage. The event triggered a temporary grounding of MAX 9 jets and intensified scrutiny of Boeing’s quality control processes. A detailed FAA investigation uncovered hundreds of quality lapses, including incomplete documentation, improper inspections, and non-compliant parts. The agency also flagged systemic problems within Boeing’s Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) program, which allows company employees to perform certain certification tasks on behalf of the FAA. Boeing, in its response, said it is reviewing the FAA’s notice and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening quality oversight,“We have implemented a comprehensive safety and quality improvement plan, including expanded employee training and enhanced supplier oversight,” a Boeing spokesperson said, adding that the company will continue cooperating with regulators. Boeing has until mid-October to formally respond, after which the FAA could negotiate a settlement or pursue enforcement proceedings. Alongside the regulatory action the FAA has approved Type Inspection Authorization (TIA) Phase 2D for Boeing’s 777-9 model, advancing the aircraft’s certification process. This phase includes community noise tests to be carried out in Glasgow, Montana. So far, the 777X test fleet (including the 777-9) has logged over 1,500 flights and nearly 4,200 flight hours. The next major step TIA Phase 3 will include evaluations of the auxiliary power unit (APU) performance and overall stability, although a start date for Phase 3 has not yet been announced. The 777-9 is currently expected to be delivered first to Lufthansa in mid-2026.
