Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: Etihad Airways delivered its strongest financial and operational performance in the airline’s history for the full year 2025, marking robust growth, network expansion and enhanced customer experience, the carrier announced on 24 February 2026. The Abu Dhabi-based flag carrier reported a profit after tax of AED 2.6 billion (US $698 million), a 47 % year-on-year increase compared with 2024. This marked the airline’s fourth consecutive year of profitability and reflected sustained demand across global markets. Etihad carried 22.4 million passengers in 2025, up 21 % year-on-year, supported by a 21 % increase in capacity and available seat kilometres (ASK) of 111.5 billion. Passenger load factor improved to 88.3 % (+2 percentage points), illustrating strong demand across its international network. Total revenue rose 21 % year-on-year to AED 30.7 billion (US $8.4 billion), driven by both passenger and cargo operations. Passenger revenue jumped 24 % to AED 25.8 billion (US $7.0 billion), while cargo revenue increased 8 % to AED 4.5 billion (US $1.2 billion), supported by higher capacity and cargo volumes that grew 9 % to more than 700,000 leg tonnes. Operating performance strengthened significantly. EBITDA climbed 37 % year-on-year to AED 6.3 billion (US $1.7 billion), resulting in a 20 % EBITDA margin (+2 percentage points). Etihad’s profit margin improved to 8.4 % (+1.5 percentage points), more than double the global airline industry average of 3.9 %, according to IATA estimates. Strong cash generation remained a hallmark of the year, with operating cash flow approaching AED 8.0 billion (more than US $2 billion). This enabled the airline to fully fund its capital expenditure requirements and reduce debt. Etihad expanded its operating fleet to 127 aircraft, the largest in its history, with 29 aircraft added during 2025. The enlarged fleet supported growth across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. The airline’s network grew from 94 to 110 destinations, bolstering global connectivity and reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s positioning as a major aviation hub. Etihad’s growth helped drive tourism to Abu Dhabi. Point-to-point traffic rose by 900,000 passengers to 5.5 million compared with 2024, while the stopover visitor count more than doubled to 170,000. The airline accounted for approximately 50 % of total passenger growth across UAE carriers in 2025, highlighting its central role in the nation’s air travel sector. Etihad continued investing in customer experience with product upgrades across cabins, digital enhancements and expanded services. Overall net promoter scores improved year-on-year. The airline also received more than 25 international awards for customer experience, safety and operational performance. Throughout 2025, Etihad welcomed more than 3,200 new employees and promoted around 2,200 staff, including new cabin crew and pilots, further strengthening its operational capabilities. Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said, “2025 has been a defining year for Etihad, delivering our strongest performance across every key metric and marking our fourth consecutive year of profitability. These results confirm that our strategy is working, growing sustainably, strengthening our financial position, and continuing to deliver a high-quality experience for our guests.” With a strengthened financial position, an expanded fleet and a broader global footprint, Etihad enters 2026 poised for continued growth, deeper market penetration and ongoing contribution to Abu Dhabi’s economic and tourism strategies.

Despite improving slightly from earlier months in 2025 when punctuality figures dipped below 50 per cent TUI’s on‑time performance remains markedly lower than competitors, according to AirAdvisor’s data. The report underlines growing frustration among travellers, with anecdotal accounts from affected passengers pointing to extended delays and consequential disruptions to holiday plans. A separate travel‑industry news release also underscored the negative impact extended delays can have on the UK’s broader travel and tourism sectors. TUI does not stand alone. Other carriers notably Wizz Air, Ryanair and easyJet have also grappled with punctuality issues at various points in 2025, with data collected earlier in the year showing several budget and short‑haul operators frequently appearing near the top of UK delay charts. Earlier industry reports covering 2024 and into 2025 have alternately highlighted different carriers as delay outliers depending on the dataset and timeframe analysed. In mid‑2025, Wizz Air and Blue Islands were both flagged in separate CAA punctuality reports as among the least punctual airlines during specific quarters Separately, analysis of UK airport performance shows that broader operational disruptions including air traffic control staffing shortages and weather‑related flight delays continue to contribute to schedule reliability challenges across the system, affecting multiple major carriers. TUI has previously defended its operational performance in response to delayed rankings, pointing to fluctuations in travel demand, staffing bottlenecks and evolving scheduling pressures across peak summer and winter seasons. Industry sources indicate the airline is implementing recovery measures aimed at improving punctuality and customer communications, though detailed public comments on the latest rankings remain limited. Under UK and EU passenger rights regulations (UK 261), travellers affected by significant delays may be entitled to compensation, depending on the length of delay and cause provided airlines cannot demonstrate extraordinary circumstances. Under the new partnership, Virgin Australia plans to leverage OpenAI’s developer tools (including the recently announced Apps SDK) to embed its flight-search and travel-planning capabilities within ChatGPT. This means that users will soon be able to describe their travel needs in natural language, for example, “Find me flights from Melbourne to Bali in March with return after two weeks” and receive tailored flight options from Virgin Australia’s real-time inventory. Virgin says the new integration is part of its broader ambition to create a more personalised, convenient and connected travel experience. According to the airline’s statement, the collaboration aims to make flight-search, booking and travel planning “as simple as chatting.” The deal covers not only customer-facing services, but also internal tools: Virgin Australia employees will obtain secure, enterprise-grade access to OpenAI’s platform to support back-office operations, data analytics, demand forecasting, dynamic pricing and revenue management. “This collaboration marks an important step forward in the next stage of our digital transformation,” said Virgin Australia CEO Dave Emerson. “By being present where our customers already are, such as ChatGPT, we’re making it easier and more convenient to connect with Virgin Australia.” From OpenAI’s side, the partnership reflects the firm’s ambition to expand generative-AI adoption beyond traditional sectors, embedding conversational AI into real-world industries with high customer engagement and frequent transactions like aviation and travel. New Delhi, India: Over 200 passengers on board Air India’s Singapore-bound flight from Delhi faced a gruelling night after a cabin cooling failure delayed their departure by nearly six hours, forcing them to deplane and wait in the terminal before a replacement aircraft was arranged. The incident occurred on Flight AI2380, operated with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, which was scheduled to depart Indira Gandhi International Airport at around 11:00 PM on Wednesday night. Shortly after boarding, the aircraft reportedly experienced faults with its air conditioning system and electrical power supply, resulting in rising cabin temperatures. According to passengers, the situation quickly became uncomfortable as the cabin’s temperature climbed. Several travellers shared videos on social media showing people fanning themselves with newspapers and magazines. Some posts described young children and elderly passengers struggling with the heat during the extended wait. Passengers remained inside the aircraft for close to two hours before crew instructed them to disembark and return to the terminal. The decision was taken after engineers determined the issue could not be resolved on the spot. In a statement, Air India acknowledged the disruption, citing a “cabin cooling issue on ground prior to departure” as the cause. The airline said that its ground teams provided regular updates, refreshments, and meals while travellers waited in the terminal. “We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers. The safety and well-being of everyone on board remain our top priority,” the airline said. With the Dreamliner grounded for repairs, Air India deployed a replacement aircraft. The rescheduled flight finally took off at 5:36 AM IST on Thursday, nearly six hours behind schedule.
