Montreal, Canada: Global air transport is positioned for a historic expansion in 2026, with passenger volumes and airline revenues reaching new heights even as supply chain constraints and cost pressures persist, according to the latest forecasts from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and related industry reporting. Airlines worldwide are expected to carry approximately 5.2 billion passengers in 2026, marking a continued recovery from the pandemic era and outpacing previous demand projections, the industry body and multiple analysts report. The Middle East is projected to outpace all regions in profitability in 2026, with carriers delivering the highest net profit margin (about 9.3 percent) and the highest profit per passenger (approximately US$28.6). This performance is attributed to strategic investment, supportive policy frameworks and the region’s role as a global connecting hub. However, IATA officials caution that profit strength is uneven, with some carriers still under pressure from geopolitical instability, blocked funds and uneven infrastructure development. Despite robust demand, airlines face persistent supply chain disruptions that continue to constrain aircraft deliveries and fleet renewal efforts. Production backlogs for new aircraft and engines remain at historic highs, creating a structural mismatch between airline requirements and manufacturing capacity that is unlikely to normalise before the early 2030s. Industry analysts warn that these bottlenecks including delays in delivery slots and parts shortages not only limit capacity growth but also contribute to rising maintenance costs and an aging global fleet. While aggregate profits are climbing, the net profit margin is expected to hover around 3.9 percent in 2026, modest by historical standards and reflective of sustained cost pressures. Factors such as labour costs, regulatory compliance, fuel price volatility and infrastructure charges continue to weigh on airline financials. Analysts also note that cargo operations remain resilient, though growth in cargo tonne kilometres is forecast to be more moderate compared with pre-pandemic peaks. An Indian cadet training under EASA regulations in Europe is being shaped by standards India may take another decade to adopt. In effect, that cadet is training in 2035, while many of his peers remain in 2025. The Cockpit Paradox Aviation has transformed dramatically in just over 100 years: The mechanical cockpit demanded total human efficiency. The glass cockpit shared efficiency with machines. The future cockpit runs on automation, AI, and algorithms. And yet, when machines fail, it is the human brain that must take over. Here lies the paradox: as automation rises, the demand for human efficiency must not disappear; it must become sharper, deeper, and more refined. The Indian Risk India is the fastest-growing aviation market in the world. Fleets are expanding, passenger numbers are doubling, and thousands of pilots are urgently needed. But the critical question remains: will these pilots be masters of the cockpit, or merely monitors of automation? Under the DGCA system, cadets are largely trained within a test-heavy, rote-learning framework. Under EASA, cadets are trained for competence, resilience, decision-making, and adaptability. This gap is not academic. It directly affects safety, confidence, and international credibility. Global Lessons Aviation history has repeatedly warned us about the dangers of overreliance on automation: Air France 447: pilots struggled to manage manual flight after autopilot disengaged. Asiana 214: excessive dependence on systems led to fatal misjudgments. Europe reformed its training philosophy after these lessons. India cannot afford to wait for its own wake-up call. A Call for Urgency This is not about Europe versus India. It is about the future versus the present. Every Indian cadet who trains under EASA today returns as a messenger from the future, carrying skills and mindsets India has yet to fully embrace. “Automation will continue to rise. Human efficiency must evolve, not vanish.” If India wants its pilots to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world, DGCA must reform now, not tomorrow. Not in 10 years. But now. Are we ready?

Analysis by air travel analytics firm AirAdvisor which tracks on‑time performance on thousands of flights found that only 57 per cent of TUI’s services took off and landed within 15 minutes of their scheduled times, placing it at the bottom of the UK punctuality rankings. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) defines a flight as on‑time if it departs or arrives within that 15‑minute window. Despite improving slightly from earlier months in 2025 when punctuality figures dipped below 50 per cent TUI’s on‑time performance remains markedly lower than competitors, according to AirAdvisor’s data. The report underlines growing frustration among travellers, with anecdotal accounts from affected passengers pointing to extended delays and consequential disruptions to holiday plans. A separate travel‑industry news release also underscored the negative impact extended delays can have on the UK’s broader travel and tourism sectors. TUI does not stand alone. Local residents were first on the scene and played a critical role in assisting the two pilots out of the shallow, muddy water before formal emergency teams arrived. Police, fire brigade personnel and rescue divers were deployed shortly after the incident was reported. Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya confirmed that both crew members escaped without injuries and that there were no reports of civilian casualties or property damage.
