Bhopal, India: An Air India flight operating from Mumbai to Bhopal executed a precautionary “priority” landing at Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Airport on Sunday after the crew detected a technical issue mid-air, prompting the activation of full emergency protocols. The flight, identified as AI633, was carrying 175 persons onboard, including 166 passengers and nine crew members, according to airport officials. The aircraft landed safely at approximately 3:20 PM, with no injuries reported among passengers or crew. According to official statements, the flight crew reported a technical issue to Air Traffic Control (ATC) while en route from Mumbai. In line with standard operating procedures, the pilots opted for a precautionary landing to ensure safety. Airport authorities immediately activated prescribed safety protocols, with coordinated response from ATC, airline ground staff, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and airport fire and rescue services. This ensured a controlled and incident-free landing. Following the landing, technical teams inspected the aircraft and subsequently declared it unserviceable, pending further checks and rectification of the fault. The airline confirmed that the aircraft would undergo detailed inspection before returning to service. Air India stated that the crew’s decision to land was taken “as per standard operating procedure” after detecting the issue mid-flight, reinforcing that safety remained the top priority. As a precautionary measure, the airline cancelled the return leg (AI634) from Bhopal to Mumbai, which had 178 passengers booked. Passengers onboard the affected flight were safely deplaned, and alternative travel arrangements were initiated by the airline. Some reports noted tense moments during the flight, though the situation remained under control throughout. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or untoward incidents occurred, and the situation was handled in accordance with established aviation safety procedures. Minneapolis, United States: A small aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport on April 25, 2026, killing both people onboard, including Lawmaker Liz Conmy, a 67-year-old mom of four, and pilot pal Joe Cass, authorities confirmed. The aircraft, identified as a Beechcraft F33A Bonanza, went down in a residential area of Brooklyn Park at approximately 11:50 a.m. local time. Witnesses reported hearing a loud explosion before seeing flames and smoke rising from the crash site near a public park. Officials confirmed that two occupants were onboard and both were fatally injured. Among them was North Dakota State Representative Liz Conmy, whose death has drawn tributes from political leaders across the state and pilot pal Joe Cass; the identity of the pilot has not been widely detailed in initial reports. The North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party, an affiliate of the national Democratic Party, confirmed Conmy's death in a social media post, calling her a champion for public education, the environment, and transparency. "We are completely heartbroken and gutted by the loss of Representative Liz Conmy. Her death is a profound loss for our state," the party said in a post on X. Despite the crash occurring in a populated suburban area, no injuries were reported on the ground, and emergency responders were able to contain the post-crash fire. Authorities secured the area as investigators began documenting debris and impact evidence. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the number of people onboard, while the National Transportation Safety Board has taken charge of the investigation. In a statement, the NTSB said it has deployed investigators to the site and will examine the wreckage, flight track data, maintenance records, and pilot history to determine the cause of the accident. New Delhi, India: A Swiss International Air Lines long-haul flight bound for Zurich was forced to abort takeoff at high speed at Indira Gandhi International Airport early Sunday after an engine caught fire, triggering an emergency evacuation on the runway that left several passengers injured. The aircraft, an operating flight LX147 from Delhi to Zurich, began its takeoff roll at approximately 1:08 AM when the crew detected a critical engine malfunction accompanied by flames. The aircraft had already accelerated to nearly 193 km/h when pilots initiated a rejected takeoff (RTO) , a high-risk, time-critical manoeuvre performed at high speed. The crew brought the aircraft to a controlled stop on the runway and immediately ordered an evacuation. Passengers and crew exited using emergency slides as airport fire and rescue services rushed to the scene. Authorities declared a full emergency, the highest level of airport alert, while firefighting teams quickly contained the blaze. Four passengers along with one crew member sustained injuries during the evacuation, largely attributed to slide descent and panic movement. Most injuries were reported as minor, including sprains and impact-related trauma. The injured were transported to medical facilities, including hospitals in Gurugram, for evaluation and treatment. The airline had earlier said that six passengers had been injured but revised the number. There were 228 passengers, four infants and 13 crew members on board the aircraft, which was an Airbus A330. Several passengers described a sudden and forceful braking event followed by confusion during evacuation. Some cited issues such as delays in opening certain exits and crowding near evacuation points. Aviation and airline technical teams have begun a detailed investigation into the sequence of events, including engine performance, fire detection systems, and crew response. SWISS confirmed that the takeoff was aborted as a precaution following an engine issue and stated that passenger safety remained the priority. The airline has initiated standard safety and technical inspections and is assisting affected passengers with rebooking and accommodation.

Bengaluru, India: India has taken a significant step forward in its indigenous fighter jet programme after state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and GE Aerospace concluded a critical technical agreement for the co-production of F414 jet engines, paving the way for a final commercial contract expected later this year. The development marks a major milestone in India’s defence manufacturing ambitions, as the F414 engine is slated to power three key indigenous combat aircraft the Tejas Mk2, the Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter (TEDBF), and the initial variant of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA). HAL and GE Aerospace have finalised the technical aspects of the agreement, including complex negotiations around technology transfer widely regarded as the most challenging phase of the deal. With this stage completed, both sides have moved into commercial negotiations, which are expected to take additional time due to rising global component costs and pricing complexities. Officials indicate that the final contract could be signed within the current financial year, marking the culmination of negotiations that have been underway for nearly three years. A central feature of the agreement is the transfer of approximately 80% of manufacturing technology from GE Aerospace to HAL, one of the most substantial technology transfer arrangements ever secured by India in the aerospace sector. The deal will enable India to manufacture advanced fighter jet engines domestically, significantly reducing dependence on imports and strengthening long-term self-reliance in critical defence technologies. Under the agreement: 99 F414 engines are planned to be manufactured in India for the Tejas Mk2 programme The Indian Air Force (IAF) has projected a requirement of 120–130 Tejas Mk2 aircraft, indicating further engine demand The co-production programme will involve licensed manufacturing in India, not just assembly The engine, capable of delivering around 98 kN of thrust, is critical for the performance requirements of next-generation Indian fighter platforms. Tejas Mk2 The F414 engine will power the Tejas Mk2, a more advanced and heavier variant of the Light Combat Aircraft designed to replace ageing fleets and enhance the IAF’s combat capability. TEDBF (Naval Fighter) The Twin Engine Deck-Based Fighter, intended for aircraft carrier operations, will rely on dual F414 engines for enhanced thrust and maritime capability. AMCA (5th-Generation Fighter) The initial version of India’s fifth-generation stealth fighter, AMCA Mk1, is also expected to use the F414 engine before transitioning to a more powerful indigenous or co-developed engine in later variants. The agreement is expected to play a key role in: Boosting indigenous defence manufacturing under the “Make in India” initiative Strengthening India–US defence cooperation, particularly in high-end aerospace technologies Addressing the Indian Air Force’s declining squadron strength, a major operational concern Enabling future fighter programmes without dependence on foreign engine supplies Experts note that local production of such high-performance engines represents a critical capability gap that India has long sought to bridge. The HAL–GE engine collaboration traces back to a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June 2023, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States. Since then, negotiations have focused heavily on securing deep technology transfer, with India insisting on a minimum threshold of around 80% for the deal to proceed. Following the conclusion of technical discussions in April 2026, the programme has now entered its final phase before contract signing. Once finalised, the agreement will not only power multiple indigenous fighter programmes but also mark a decisive shift towards domestic production of advanced jet engines, a capability currently limited to a handful of countries worldwide.
