The Secretary of Civil Aviation India has reported a notable reduction in hoax bomb threats directed at airlines, thanks to the enforcement of stricter regulations and enhanced countermeasures. Vumlunmang Vualnam credited this progress to streamlined threat assessment processes, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and increased penalties for offenders.

Vumlunmang Vualnam, speaking at an event in Delhi, emphasized on this topic. He affirmed that these efforts align with the broader goal of maintaining flight safety and preserving the integrity of India’s aviation network.

Hoax bomb threats have increased at an alarming rate in recent months, affecting over 25 planes on certain days. These incidents led to operational disruptions, caused panic among passengers, and incurred significant additional costs for airlines due to emergency landings and security sweeps.

“Several weeks ago, bomb threat hoaxes disrupted many flights, but our security teams have effectively managed these cases, leading to a decline in such incidents,” said Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam.

He stated that advances in consultation and reaction mechanisms within airport threat assessment committees had boosted efficiency.

“By reducing the likelihood of hoaxes, our enhanced security procedures have minimized interruptions and ensured passenger safety,” he added.

The intensified focus on curbing hoax calls has led to several arrests, including a minor from Chhattisgarh involved in one of the threats. Investigators have worked closely with airlines to identify patterns, which has helped refine response protocols and prevent further disruptions.

The Civil Aviation Ministry’s proactive approach underscores the critical need for coordinated action to safeguard passenger safety and ensure the smooth functioning of the aviation industry. As the government continues to strengthen aviation security, these measures are expected to further enhance the overall safety and security of India’s skies.
