Switzerland: A small aircraft en route to Denmark crashed in the Swiss Alps, resulting in the deaths of all three people on board.
Police in Graubuenden canton state confirmed in a statement that the Extra EA-400 propeller plane departed from Samedan Airfield in southeastern Switzerland on the evening of March 17, 2025, but crashed just two minutes after takeoff near the village of La Punt Chamues-ch.
Upon impact, the aircraft caught fire and was completely destroyed.
The Extra EA-400 is a six-seat, pressurized aircraft manufactured by Extra Aircraft in Germany. It is powered by a turbocharged Continental Voyager TSIOL-550-C engine and has a composite airframe with retractable landing gear. The aircraft was designed for long-range travel and operates at altitudes of up to 25,000 feet.
Authorities confirmed that the plane had arrived from Denmark on March 13 and was making its return journey when the accident occurred.
Emergency responders arrived at the crash site, but the fire made rescue efforts difficult. The Graubünden cantonal police have stated that all three occupants were killed, though their identities have not yet been formally released.
