Berrima, Australia: A pilot suffered critical injuries after a light aircraft crashed into a paddock in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales on Thursday morning, triggering a large-scale emergency response and an ongoing investigation into the cause of the accident. Emergency services were called to Medway Road in Berrima at approximately 7:45–7:50 am on April 16, 2026, following reports that a small aircraft had gone down in an open field. Responding crews, including police, Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, the State Emergency Service (SES), and the Rural Fire Service, arrived to find a severely damaged recreational plane with its sole occupant trapped inside the wreckage. The aircraft has been identified as a Hornet STOL ultralight, a small fixed-wing aluminium recreational plane. Initial information indicates the aircraft came down under unknown circumstances, with no immediate indication of the cause. The pilot, a man believed to be in his 50s, was trapped inside the wreckage “for some time” before firefighters were able to extricate him in a complex rescue operation. Paramedics treated the man at the scene for significant face and leg injuries before he was airlifted by helicopter to Liverpool Hospital. Authorities confirmed he remains in critical condition. The crash prompted a substantial multi-agency emergency deployment. Fire and Rescue NSW dispatched at least five units, including specialised HAZMAT crews, who worked to isolate a minor fuel leak and mitigate the risk of fire at the crash site. NSW Ambulance deployed multiple crews along with two helicopters, while police and other emergency services secured the area and assisted in the rescue effort. Aerial footage from the scene showed the aircraft described as a yellow plane with red markings lying heavily damaged in a paddock as emergency personnel worked around the wreckage. New South Wales Police have launched an investigation into the incident, and aviation authorities have been notified. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed it is aware of the crash, although it typically investigates recreational aircraft incidents only in exceptional circumstances. Prayagraj, India: A two‑seater Indian Air Force (IAF) microlight trainer aircraft made an emergency landing into a pond near KP College in Prayagraj on Wednesday afternoon after developing a technical snag mid‑flight, officials and eyewitnesses said. The aircraft, which had departed on a routine training sortie from Air Force Station Bamrauli at approximately 12:15 pm, reportedly lost altitude after a suspected technical malfunction, possibly related to engine failure, according to defence sources and eyewitness accounts. Eyewitnesses said the light trainer circled at low altitude before descending into the water‑hyacinth covered pond behind KP College, generating a loud noise that drew immediate attention from local residents. Local residents were first on the scene and played a critical role in assisting the two pilots out of the shallow, muddy water before formal emergency teams arrived. Police, fire brigade personnel and rescue divers were deployed shortly after the incident was reported. Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya confirmed that both crew members escaped without injuries and that there were no reports of civilian casualties or property damage. In a statement released on the IAF’s official social media channels, the Air Force said, “A Microlite aircraft of the IAF, while undertaking a routine sortie, from AF Station Bamrauli near Prayagraj at 1215 hrs on January 21, 2026, experienced a technical malfunction, and was safely force landed in an uninhabited area, ensuring no damage to civil life or property. Both pilots on board are safe.” The IAF further announced that a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the exact cause of the malfunction and to review flight records, maintenance logs and pilot reports as part of the formal investigation process. Previous Incidents: In 2025, an Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar two-seater fighter jet crashed near Jamnagar, Gujarat, during a night training mission on April 2, 2025, after the aircraft encountered a technical malfunction mid-air, forcing the pilots to eject to safety, officials said. One pilot succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident and was later confirmed dead, while the other was rescued and is undergoing treatment in Jamnagar. The crash occurred in an open field near Suvarda village, about 12 km from Jamnagar city, triggering a fire and scattering wreckage, though there were no civilian casualties or damage to nearby property. The IAF expressed deep regret over the loss, extended condolences to the bereaved family, and announced that a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the accident. Later in the same year, a twin-seater Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar trainer aircraft crashed on July 9, 2025, near Bhanuda village in Churu district, Rajasthan, during a routine training sortie, killing both pilots on board, defence officials confirmed. The aircraft, which had taken off from Suratgarh Air Force Base, went down in an agricultural field around mid-afternoon, scattering wreckage across the impact zone, and causing no reported damage to civilian property.

Both pilots survived the accident with no fatalities reported, officials and the operator confirmed. The Cessna 208 Caravan Amphibian aircraft, registered 4R-CAE, was approaching Gregory Lake at about 12:30 p.m. local time when it encountered difficulties during its final landing phase. The aircraft subsequently struck the water surface and came to rest in the lake. Local authorities, including police and the Sri Lanka Navy, responded immediately and coordinated with civilian boat operators on the lake to extract the two pilots from the submerged aircraft. Both were transported to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital for medical evaluation. Initial reports indicate that the injuries sustained were non-critical. Police spokespersons attributed the challenging conditions at the time of landing to strong winds, which may have contributed to the seaplane’s unstable descent and rough contact with the lake surface. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Lokendra Singh, the aircraft veered off during take‑off and nosedived into scrubland adjacent to the airstrip just as authorities were preparing the runway for an emergency airlift of an injured soldier. “The solo pilot miraculously escaped without injuries,” he told IANS. Eyewitnesses described a sudden loss of control, followed by a plume of dust and debris as the plane left the runway and hit rough terrain. The aircraft reportedly did not catch fire, and there was no immediate sign of a major structural breakup. Dhana Airstrip located in Sagar district serves as the primary training base for Chimes Aviation Academy. CAA lists the Dhana facility among its certified flying bases. The accident renews scrutiny over repeated safety‑related incidents at Dhana. CAA and the local administration have not yet released a detailed statement. An investigation is expected to determine whether pilot error, technical failure or runway/airstrip conditions caused the mishap. Similar Training Aircraft Crash At Seoni Two Days Ago About two days ago, a training aircraft belonging to Redbird Flight Training Academy crashed near Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh. According to police and local reports, the aircraft struck a 33 kV high‑voltage power line while preparing to land near the village of Amgaon, roughly 2 km from Suktara Airstrip. The wing’s impact severed the line, leading to a crash in a nearby field; both the pilot and the flight instructor identified as Ajit Anthony (instructor) and Ajit Chawda (trainee) sustained injuries but are now out of danger. In addition to the human injuries, the accident caused electricity disruption around 80–90 villages under the local power‑substation were plunged into darkness. Previous Training Aircraft Incidents at Chimes Aviation Academy 6 April 2009, a training aircraft of Chimes Aviation Academy, a Cessna 172R registered VT‑CAI departed from Dhana Airstrip on a cross‑country solo training flight. On its return leg near Bargi Dam in Madhya Pradesh, the aircraft reportedly flew very low over the water, made a low pass near fishermen, and then plunged into the dam. The wreckage was recovered on 29 May 2009, after more than a month, with the aircraft destroyed, the engine hanging and the propeller facing downward. The lone trainee pilot on board tragically died. 3 January 2020, Dhana Airstrip, Sagar (MP), a Cessna 172 training aircraft of Chimes Aviation Academy crashed during landing at Dhana Airstrip. Both the instructor and trainee on board tragically lost their lives in the accident 17 July 2021, Dhana Airstrip, Sagar, a Cessna 172R (VT‑CAG) operated by the academy experienced a runway excursion during take‑off or landing at Dhana Airstrip. The aircraft skidded off the runway, but the trainee pilot escaped unhurt. 6 March 2024, Guna Airstrip, Guna district (MP), a Cessna 172S (VT‑CHP) developed engine trouble mid-flight while traveling from Neemuch to Dhana. The trainee pilot attempted an emergency landing at Guna Airstrip but lost control, crashing into bushes. The pilot was injured, and the aircraft sustained substantial damage.

The incident occurred near Shark Valley, approximately 20 miles west of Miami Executive Airport. According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft took off from Miami Executive Airport at 1:48 PM and circled over the Everglades before encountering issues that led to the crash. Both individuals were uninjured but became stranded in the challenging terrain of the wetlands. They managed to use their cellphones to send their coordinates to emergency responders, enabling rescue teams to locate and extract them safely. Fire rescue units responded to the 12800 block of Southwest 145th Avenue, where the plane had flipped upside down. Both individuals climbed out of the wreckage and stood on the wing while they used their cellphone to send their coordinates to responding officials. They were transported to Miami Executive Airport after being safely removed from the remote area and checked out by paramedics. The student pilot was on a test flight when the aircraft encountered problems that led to the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident to determine the cause of the crash.

Manitoba, Canada: Four people are dead and a young pilot is seriously injured after a float plane crashed in a remote area roughly 40 kilometres south of St. Theresa Point First Nation, Manitoba, on Saturday evening. Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the single-engine de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver went down near Makepeace Lake while carrying five people. All four passengers, two men aged 53 and 49 and two women who both were 50 were residents of St. Theresa Point First Nation and died at the scene. The 20-year-old pilot, the sole survivor, sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover. Authorities confirmed he was airlifted to hospital after being located by rescue teams in difficult nighttime conditions. The crash site was located after RCMP received an alert from an iPhone satellite crash-detection system. Due to the fly-in nature of the community, officers chartered a helicopter to reach the scene. The lone RCMP officer was dropped about 500 metres away because of darkness and rough terrain and had to hike to the wreckage. Search and rescue technicians from CFB Trenton were parachuted in to assist, providing medical support and helping stabilize the survivor until evacuation was possible. “This was an extremely challenging operation because of the remote location, darkness, and limited access,” RCMP spokespersons said in a statement, adding that the collaboration between emergency services was critical in saving the pilot’s life. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has confirmed it is gathering information about the crash to determine whether a full investigation will be launched. The cause of the accident has not yet been established. St. Theresa Point Chief and Council have not yet released a statement but community members are mourning the loss of four residents in what is being described as a devastating blow to the First Nation. In a statement on Facebook, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs sent condolences to the families of the victims, and to their community. "We grieve with you. The loss of community members in such a sudden and devastating way is felt across all our Nations. In this time of heartbreak, we stand with St. Theresa Point, holding up the families and community in prayer, love, and strength," the post said. Authorities said updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding the cause of the crash and the identities of those killed.
