The long-haul flight had departed Gatwick in the afternoon on April 27, 2026 and climbed to approximately 11,000 feet when crew and passengers began noticing a strong, unusual odor inside the cabin. Several onboard described the smell as similar to “dirty socks,” with some reporting dizziness and nausea as the situation developed. Recognizing the seriousness of the issue, the flight crew declared a full emergency and initiated immediate safety procedures. Oxygen masks were deployed, and pilots donned protective equipment while working to manage the situation in the cockpit. As part of standard emergency protocol, the aircraft entered a holding pattern to reduce landing weight by burning fuel. During this period, pilots also took additional measures to ventilate the cockpit, including opening cockpit windows while operating at lower altitude. The Boeing 777 remained airborne for approximately 45 minutes before safely returning to London Gatwick Airport. Emergency services were deployed on standby as the aircraft landed without further incident. Medical teams assessed passengers and crew after landing, with some individuals requiring precautionary checks following exposure to the fumes. The airline arranged assistance and accommodation for affected passengers after the flight was subsequently delayed. In an official statement, British Airways confirmed that the diversion was due to a “technical issue” and stated that the aircraft “landed safely,” adding that customers disembarked normally and the airline apologised for the disruption caused. A replacement aircraft was later arranged to continue the journey to Cancun after the incident led to a significant delay.

Manchester, United Kingdom: An EasyJet Airbus A320-200 operating flight U2-3375 from Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) to Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) in Spain was forced to divert to Manchester Airport (MAN) on 18 February 2026, shortly after departure, after the flight crew reported a technical issue during the initial climb. The aircraft, registered G-EZPE, had just departed Liverpool and was climbing through approximately 4,000 feet when the pilots detected vibrations in the left-hand engine (engine No. 1). According to aviation tracking and incident reports, the crew halted the climb and entered a holding pattern while assessing the situation before electing to divert to Manchester for a precautionary landing. The crew declared an emergency in accordance with standard aviation procedures. The Airbus A320 landed safely on runway 05R at Manchester approximately 40 minutes after departure, where airport emergency services met the aircraft as a precaution. Passengers and crew disembarked without reported injuries. A replacement aircraft, also an A320, registered G-EZPD later transported the passengers to Fuerteventura with a delay of about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Following the diversion, the original aircraft remained on the ground at Manchester for around 25.5 hours before being repositioned to Liverpool, where it was still located several hours later. EasyJet has not issued a detailed statement at the time of reporting, but the airline’s operational procedures require precautionary diversions when crew detect abnormalities in aircraft systems, particularly engine performance, to ensure the safety of passengers and flight crew

Malé, Maldives: A Boeing 737 MAX 8 belonging to flydubai was damaged on 4 December 2025 after a ground‑services fuel truck struck the aircraft while it was parked at Velana International Airport (MLE), the airline confirmed. The aircraft registration A6‑FMM, operating flight FZ1025 from Dubai (DXB) had just arrived in Malé when the collision occurred on the apron during routine ground handling at approximately 08:50 local time. Reports indicate that the lower left‑hand winglet sustained damage. flydubai swiftly confirmed that all passengers and crew disembarked safely, with no injuries, fuel spillage or fire risk reported. The airline said affected travellers have been re‑accommodated on the next available flights while the damaged aircraft undergoes inspection and repair. The next scheduled leg, a flight from Malé to Colombo, was cancelled as a result of the incident. Authorities at the Maldives airport are expected to launch a formal investigation into the incident, focusing on apron safety protocols, ground‑handling procedures and vehicle movement controls around parked aircraft. flydubai reiterated that the “safety of our passengers and crew remains our highest priority at all times.” The aircraft will remain grounded until repairs are completed and regulatory standards for airworthiness are satisfied. On 28 November 2025 a Emirates Airbus A380‑842 at Manchester Airport (UK) was struck by a fuel‑truck while parked at a gate, during routine turnaround after arrival from Dubai. The collision damaged the cowling of the engine intake though there was no fuel leak, fire or injuries and forced cancellation of the return flight EK18 to Dubai. The aircraft remained grounded for inspections and repairs, and took off again on 30 November for flight EK20 to Dubai, signalling the damage was deemed repairable.
