New Delhi: A pilots’ association has raised concerns about an alleged strategy between Air India and IndiGo to avoid hiring pilots from each other, urging authorities to ensure fair employment practices in the aviation industry.
The Airline Pilots’ Association of India (ALPA India), affiliated with the International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Association (IFALPA), has formally addressed the issue in a letter to Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu. The association, which represents more than 800 pilots across airlines and helicopter operators, has urged the ministry to intervene and uphold employment fairness in the sector.
“Such an arrangement, if true, raises serious legal and ethical questions as it restricts the fundamental right to employment and fair competition,” ALPA India’s letter stated.
Both Air India and IndiGo did not respond to PTI’s queries. However, an IndiGo official dismissed the allegations, stating that there was no basis for the claims.
India’s aviation sector is expanding rapidly, with over 1,800 aircraft in order to accommodate rising air traffic demand. This growth has fueled a need for more pilots, making employment conditions a critical concern.
