India: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India had announced the introduction of Electronic Personnel Licenses (EPL), a significant move to transition from physical licenses to a fully digital system. Initially scheduled to take effect from January 15, 2025, the DGCA has now revised the effective date. The updated timeline will be communicated soon, while all other specifications and procedures remain unchanged.
The EPL system aims to enhance efficiency and safety by allowing flight crew personnel to access licenses digitally via the eGCA mobile app. Key features include paperless access, online and offline viewing modes, bilingual support (English and Hindi), compatibility with devices running Android 5.0/iOS 11 and above, and the ability to register EPLs on up to two devices for backup.
This transition not only simplifies licensing processes like issuance and renewal but also aligns India’s aviation sector with international standards. Until EPLs are fully implemented, existing hard-copy licenses will remain valid.
Further details on the revised timeline and guidelines will be shared by the DGCA.
