Baku, Azerbaijan: A Turkish Airlines flight bound for Pakistan made a precautionary emergency diversion to Azerbaijan on July 16 after the crew declared an in-flight emergency while en route from Istanbul to Islamabad.
Flight TK710, a scheduled service from Istanbul Airport (IST) to Islamabad International Airport (ISB), departed Turkey as planned before the crew declared an emergency during the flight over the Caucasus region. Flight-tracking data showed the aircraft diverting from its planned route toward Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, where it landed safely.
The flight crew opted to divert as a precaution after experiencing a technical issue. Initial reports also indicated the aircraft temporarily encountered Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal disruption, prompting the pilots to take precautionary measures. However, Turkish Airlines had not publicly confirmed the exact nature of the problem at the time of publication.
The aircraft landed safely in Baku, where emergency vehicles were positioned alongside the runway as part of standard emergency response procedures. Social media videos and eyewitness accounts showed airport emergency services meeting the aircraft after landing. No injuries were immediately reported.
Flight-tracking records identify TK710 as a regularly scheduled Turkish Airlines service between Istanbul and Islamabad, typically operated by an Airbus A330-300. The flight is also marketed under Pakistan International Airlines’ codeshare flight PK5710.
