Accra, Ghana: Brussels Airlines flight SN278 returned safely to Accra on Monday evening after experiencing a technical problem shortly after take-off while operating a scheduled flight to Lomé, Togo.
The aircraft departed Accra International Airport at 6:06 p.m. local time on July 20, 2026, but the crew detected a technical issue while airborne and decided to return to Accra as a precautionary safety measure. The aircraft landed safely at 6:18 p.m., around 12 minutes after departure.
The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on July 20, saying there were no reported injuries among passengers or crew. The regulator did not disclose the number of people onboard or provide details of the specific technical fault, which remains under investigation.
According to the GCAA, Brussels Airlines is investigating the issue under the oversight of the aviation authority. The airline subsequently cancelled the flight, while affected passengers were provided assistance in line with the Ghana Civil Aviation (Economic) Directives, 2019, Part 2 – Consumer Protection.
The GCAA commended the flight crew for their prompt response and adherence to established safety procedures, emphasizing that passenger and crew safety remained the priority.
