Plettenberg, Germany: A small single-engine aircraft crashed into the garden of a residential home in Plettenberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, on Tuesday, killing the pilot. Authorities have identified the deceased as a 64-year-old man from Bochum.

The aircraft, a Wolfgang Dallach Fascination ultralight, had taken off from Würzburg and was en route to Marl in the Recklinghausen district when the crash occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. local time (1540 UTC). The wreckage was found in the undergrowth between trees. No other casualties were reported.

Several eyewitnesses observed the crash and were assisted by emergency responders at the scene. The police quickly cordoned off the area, and a helicopter was deployed to document the crash site from above.

On Wednesday morning, police investigators and the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) inspected the crash site. Based on current findings, all indications point to an accident. Authorities have ruled out third-party negligence with a very high degree of probability.

The BFU (Bundesstelle für Flugunfalluntersuchung, which is the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation) is now responsible for determining the exact cause of the crash. Investigators will analyze factors such as the aircraft’s technical condition, weather conditions, and possible pilot-related issues. A full report is expected in the coming months.
