INDIA: Air India is making bold moves to redefine its flying experience with a $400 million fleet refresh, aimed at modernizing the cabin interiors of over half its fleet. As of April 29, 2025, the airline has confirmed that 106 of its 198 aircraft have either been retrofitted or delivered with upgraded interiors, marking significant progress in the airline’s transformation journey. The full fleet refresh is expected to be completed by October 2025.
The overhaul covers a range of aircraft, including 82 Airbus A320neo family planes, 7 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, 6 Airbus A350s, and several Boeing 777s. With the completion of the retrofit plan, 82% of Air India’s single-aisle fleet will feature modernized cabins by October 2025, setting a new standard for passenger comfort on domestic flights.
The first Boeing 777-300ER has already undergone an interim heavy refresh and is now in service, with a full retrofit scheduled soon. The phased plan will extend through mid-2027, with additional aircraft like the Boeing 787-8 scheduled for retrofitting beginning in June 2025.

The visual transformation of the aircraft includes newly designed seating, modern interior panels, updated carpets, and upgraded upholstery.
