Texas: A United Airlines flight was forced to evacuate passengers after flames were seen coming from one of the engines during takeoff from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) on Sunday morning.
United Airlines Flight 1382, an Airbus A320, was scheduled to fly from Houston to New York when the flight crew noticed an issue with the engine. The plane had just started rolling for takeoff when flames suddenly burst from the right engine, sparking panic among passengers.
A video that’s since gone viral shows the tense moment, with people screaming as the flames became visible. The crew immediately aborted the takeoff, and all 104 passengers and five crew members were safely evacuated using emergency slides and stairs.
Emergency crews, including the Houston Fire Department, quickly responded to the scene. While no active fire was reported, the department assisted with securing the area and helping passengers off the plane. The Houston Fire Department later confirmed on X, “HFD’s Airport Rescue Firefighters are assisting at @iah after a departing plane reported an issue on the runway. HFD assisted in deboarding the plane. No injuries have been reported at this time.”
The FAA is currently investigating the cause of the engine issue, and United Airlines has arranged a replacement aircraft for the passengers to continue their journey. No injuries have been reported, and the airline thanked the crew and emergency responders for their swift actions.
