Abu Dhabi: The second day of Air Expo Abu Dhabi 2024, Nov 20th was a dynamic celebration of aerospace innovation, cooperation, and advancement. Sheikha Rowdah bint Nehayan bin Zayed al-Nahyan, a member of the UAE Children’s Parliament and its Environmental Affairs and Sustainability Committee, visited the Expo to highlight the UAE’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment in traditionally male-dominated fields. Her attendance emphasized the government’s commitment to advancing women in STEM, particularly in aviation, through scholarships and leadership programs that provide possibilities for women.

Another intriguing workshop, presented by Captain Kristina Tervo, focused on the particular problems women experience in aviation, such as gender prejudices and work-life balance. One of the most moving moments of the day came from Imen Sfaxi, a national hero whose story resonated deeply with the audience. After a life-altering accident left her confined to a wheelchair, Sfaxi channeled her challenges into a groundbreaking project called “From Wheelchair to Flying Vehicle.” Her vision aims to create inclusive air transport solutions for people with reduced mobility, using emerging technologies like electric aircraft and autonomous systems to pave the way for a more accessible future. Her powerful message of perseverance and inclusion left a lasting impact on everyone in the room.

At the Abu Dhabi Air Expo, Mr. Rizwan Taj, an Admissions Consultant and Pilot Theory Instructor at Airways Aviation, spoke on the pilot shortage and the influence of AI in aviation. He agreed that, while technology advances, human pilots are still necessary owing to their particular judgment and agility in crucial situations. Taj stated that the worldwide pilot shortage is caused by an aging workforce and the cost of training. He stressed the continued necessity for pilot training programs to develop proficient aviators while maintaining safety and passenger trust. Meanwhile, Etihad Airways was making waves with its latest innovations in luxury air travel. The airline unveiled its next-generation 350 Business Class seat, designed for the ultimate in comfort and personalization.
