Belo Horizonte, Brazil: A small twin-engine aircraft crashed into a residential building in the Silveira neighbourhood of Belo Horizonte on Monday, killing three of the five people onboard and injuring two others, according to Brazilian authorities. The aircraft, identified as an Embraer EMB-721C, departed from Pampulha Airport at approximately 12:16 p.m. local time, bound for São Paulo. Within minutes of takeoff, the aircraft began experiencing difficulties and remained airborne for only a short duration before losing altitude. It ultimately crashed around 12:25 p.m. into a three-storey residential building, striking a stairwell area between floors, which helped prevent casualties among residents. Authorities confirmed that three occupants died in the crash. The victims include pilot Wellington Oliveira and passenger Fernando Moreira Souto, who was the son of the mayor of Jequitinhonha. Souto was initially rescued in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The co-pilot also died, though their identity has not been officially released in primary reports. Two other passengers survived the crash and were taken to hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Eyewitness accounts and initial footage indicate that the aircraft appeared to be circling and descending abnormally before impact, suggesting a possible loss of power or control shortly after departure. Despite the direct collision with the building, no residents on the ground were injured, and structural damage was limited, avoiding a potentially larger disaster. Emergency responders, including firefighters, medical teams and civil defence personnel, reached the crash site within minutes. Residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution while authorities secured the area and assisted survivors. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA), along with regional unit SERIPA III and the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, have launched a formal probe. Investigators are examining possible mechanical issues, operational factors and the aircraft’s condition. In response to the incident, officials in Jequitinhonha declared three days of mourning following the death of Fernando Moreira Souto. Authorities have not yet released a final determination on what led to the crash, and investigations are ongoing.

Adelaide, Australia: A fatal light aircraft crash at Parafield Airport on April 29 has left two people onboard dead and at least 11 individuals injured on the ground after the aircraft struck a hangar during a landing attempt and erupted into flames. The incident triggered a major emergency response, with authorities launching an investigation into the cause of the crash. Further details have emerged following the fatal light aircraft crash at Parafield Airport, with investigators and authorities providing new insights into the sequence of events, victims, and aircraft operation. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) confirmed the aircraft involved was a Diamond DA42 Twin Star conducting a training flight at the time of the accident. The flight was engaged in circuit training, a standard procedure involving repeated take-offs and landings. According to investigators, the aircraft had completed multiple circuits before the crash occurred during the approach phase. Authorities confirmed that two occupants were onboard a student pilot and a flight instructor and both were killed. Reports indicate the student pilot was a Japanese national, while the instructor was an Australian national, Police further confirmed the victims were men aged 24 and 29 respectively. Preliminary findings suggest that after turning onto final approach, the aircraft descended steeply and impacted terrain before colliding with a hangar, leading to a high-intensity fuel-fed fire. The aircraft was destroyed on impact. Data indicates no distress call was made prior to the crash, and investigators are now examining wreckage, flight path data, and operational factors. According to aviation database records from Aviation Safety Network, the aircraft was associated with Flight Training Adelaide (FTA), one of the major flight training organisations operating at Parafield Airport. In an official statement, Adelaide Airport Limited, which manages Parafield Airport, said emergency services responded immediately to the incident. The airport operator confirmed the crash involved a light aircraft impacting a hangar, resulting in fatalities and multiple injuries on the ground. The statement added that the airport was closed temporarily, emergency protocols were activated, and support was being provided to those affected. The airport authority also stated it is cooperating fully with investigators. Initial reports indicated that at least 11 people were injured in the crash; however, subsequent official updates clarified that 10 people were injured on the ground, including one with life-threatening burns, two with serious injuries, one with minor injuries, and six affected by smoke inhalation. The ATSB has deployed a team of specialists to the crash site to conduct a detailed examination, focusing on aircraft systems, engine performance, flight path, and human factors. Investigators will also analyse maintenance records and training procedures as part of the probe. A preliminary report is expected in the coming weeks, while a final report may take several months.

Corpus Christi, United States: A training flight ended in a serious accident Monday evening after a single-engine aircraft struck power lines and crashed just short of the runway at Corpus Christi International Airport, leaving two occupants critically injured. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident occurred at approximately 7:25 p.m. local time during the aircraft’s approach phase. The aircraft, identified as a Piper PA-28, went down near Highway 44 frontage road, triggering an emergency response from multiple agencies. The aircraft was operated by Splendid Aviation, a flight training school. The company confirmed that the flight involved a certified instructor and a student pilot, both of whom sustained injuries in the crash. Emergency crews transported the victims to a nearby hospital before they were later transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio for advanced treatment. In a public statement, the flight school said the aircraft “came into contact with power lines while on approach”, adding that it is cooperating fully with investigators and refraining from speculation on the cause. First responders, including the Corpus Christi Fire Department, arrived shortly after receiving reports around 7:20 p.m. and found the aircraft down on the roadway and on fire. The crash site prompted a large-scale emergency response involving, Corpus Christi Police Department, Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, Annaville Fire Department and Airport authorities Damage to power lines contributed to hazardous conditions at the site, with local reports indicating power disruptions in the surrounding area. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation, with support from the FAA. Officials confirmed the aircraft crashed under unknown circumstances during the approach phase, and no preliminary cause has been established. Investigators are expected to examine, flight path and altitude during final approach, obstacle clearance and situational awareness, pilot training dynamics and instructor intervention and aircraft condition and operational factors. Authorities have emphasized that it is too early to determine the cause of the accident. The Piper PA-28, a widely used training aircraft, is a single-engine, light utility airplane commonly deployed in flight schools worldwide due to its reliability and training suitability.

Manaus, Brazil: A small single-engine aircraft crashed into the Rio Negro, a major tributary of the Amazon River, on the morning of January 4, 2026, leaving both occupants with minor injuries, according to local sources and eyewitness footage. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Paricatuba and Iranduba, in the metropolitan region of Manaus, Amazonas state. Video captured by witnesses including an architect riding a jet ski shows the aircraft flying at very low altitude before losing height and nose-diving into the water with a large splash. Fernando Araújo, who recorded the dramatic sequence, told reporters he noticed the plane performing unusual low-altitude maneuvers over the river before the crash. In the footage, the aircraft appears to touch the water twice and make steep turns before the final descent. According to local media reports, Araújo and others on boats and jet skis were first on the scene. They were able to reach the floating wreckage quickly and pull the pilot and passenger to safety, administering first aid before rescue teams arrived. Both men aboard the aircraft were reported to have sustained injuries. The pilot suffered deep cuts to his forehead and was described as being in shock. The passenger reportedly had a smaller head wound and a puncture wound to his thigh. Officials from the Amazonas Military Fire Department confirmed they were alerted and responded to the scene. When authorities arrived, the victims had already been removed from the water by civilian rescuers. Local news outlets noted that a single small aircraft was involved in the accident, and there were no reports of additional persons onboard. Following the rescue, firefighters inspected the area and reported no remaining hazards at the crash site. There has been no official release on the aircraft’s registration, operator, or flight plan as of this writing.
