Michigan, United States: Three people were killed when a small aircraft crashed in a field near Bath Township, Michigan, on Thursday evening. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Clark Road and Peacock Road, roughly 15 miles northeast of Lansing. According to Bath Township Police and Clinton County emergency officials, the aircraft went down shortly after radar contact was lost. Responding units found the wreckage engulfed in flames. All three individuals on board were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending family notifications. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation to determine the cause of the crash. A press conference scheduled for Thursday night was cancelled unexpectedly, reportedly at the direction of the FAA. “We were told by the FAA that the press briefing would not proceed at this time,” a Bath Township official told local station WILX News 10. No reason was given for the cancellation. Reports from CBS News Detroit indicate that the crash site remains under federal control while investigators examine debris patterns and flight data. Preliminary findings have not yet been released. According to trackers AirNav Radar and Flight Radar 24, the plane is believed to have been a Mexican-registered Hawker 800XP (XA-JMR), departing from Battle Creek before losing altitude and crashing. However, this detail has not been verified by U.S. authorities. Residents in the area reported hearing a loud explosion and seeing black smoke billow from the site moments after the crash. “It looked like something out of a movie, just fire and smoke,” one witness told local reporters. The FAA confirmed it is assisting with recovery operations and will issue a preliminary accident report within the coming days. The NTSB is expected to release an initial summary once investigators confirm aircraft type and flight path data.

Pennsylvania, United States: A New Jersey flight instructor has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with a 2022 small-plane crash in Salisbury Township, Pennsylvania, that killed his student pilot from Easton. According to federal prosecutors, 36-year-old Philip McPherson of Haddon Township, New Jersey, entered a guilty plea in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania earlier this week. The plea stems from the fatal crash that occurred just one minute after takeoff from Queen City Municipal Airport in Allentown on August 18, 2022, claiming the life of 49-year-old student pilot Keith Kozel. McPherson and Kozel were flying a single-engine Cessna 172 on an instructional flight when the aircraft lost control shortly after departure. The plane crashed into the yard of a home on South Melrose Avenue in Salisbury Township and burst into flames. Kozel died at the scene, while McPherson survived with injuries. Investigators later determined that McPherson was not legally certified to act as a flight instructor or pilot at the time of the crash. Court documents revealed he had surrendered his pilot certificate to the FAA in 2018 after being involved in two prior accidents and subsequently failed a 2021 reexamination for lack of competence. In August 2024, McPherson was indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter and 40 counts of serving as an airman without a valid certificate, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Prosecutors argued that McPherson acted with “gross negligence” by knowingly providing flight instruction despite his disqualification, thereby endangering his student’s life. On October 14, 2025, McPherson pleaded guilty to manslaughter under a plea agreement that will see the remaining charges dismissed at sentencing, as confirmed by local authorities. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. McPherson’s sentencing is scheduled for January 2026 in Philadelphia. The court is expected to consider aggravating factors related to his prior record and repeated violations of federal aviation regulations. Friends and relatives of the late Keith Kozel described him as a dedicated student pilot who was “living his dream of flying.” The Kozel family has expressed relief that justice is being served but said “no sentence can bring Keith back.” The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) assisted in the investigation, which concluded that the accident resulted from pilot error and lack of qualification on the part of McPherson.

Dartmouth, United States: A fiery plane crash on Interstate 195 in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, claimed the lives of a Rhode Island couple early Monday morning. The victims have been identified as 68-year-old Thomas Perkins and his 66-year-old wife, Agatha, both of Middletown, Rhode Island. The crash occurred around 8 a.m. after the couple's Socata TBM 700 aircraft, a single-engine turboprop, took off from New Bedford Regional Airport. According to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, the couple was found in the fuselage and pronounced dead at the scene. A woman driving a silver Hyundai Sonata was injured when part of the plane struck her vehicle. She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released. Aviation experts suggest that the pilot may have been attempting to return to New Bedford Regional Airport but faced mechanical issues, leading to the decision to land on or near the highway. Tom Kinton, former CEO of the Massachusetts Port Authority, commented, "That's the first thing you look for is a pasture or a highway to get that plane down, and maybe they were trying to do it." The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the incident. Initial reports indicate that the pilot did not file a flight plan or provide information about the number of people aboard the aircraft. The crash occurred amid a nor'easter that brought strong winds and rain to the region. New Bedford Regional Airport remained open, but many commercial and private flights were canceled due to the storm. Interstate 195 was closed in both directions for several hours. The center and right lanes on the eastbound side reopened at about 2:45 p.m., while all lanes on the westbound side reopened shortly before 3:15 p.m. The left lane on eastbound I-195 remained closed as of 6:30 p.m. The aircraft involved in the crash was owned by Easton Air, LLC, based in Middletown, Rhode Island. The FAA and NTSB are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.

Johannesburg, South Africa: A 20-year-old Indian identified as Piyush Pushp, died in a light aircraft crash during a solo flight as part of his pilot training in Johannesburg, South Africa, officials confirmed. The Indian Embassy and South African authorities are coordinating to investigate the incident and repatriate his remains. Pushp was undergoing advanced flight training at the Vulcan Aviation Institute, an aviation training facility in South Africa. The crash occurred shortly after take-off during a solo sortie. Local sources indicate that early indications suggest a possible technical or engine malfunction as a cause, though no formal conclusion has been released. Pushp was taken to a hospital in Johannesburg after the crash but died from his injuries. The Indian Embassy in Pretoria has confirmed that it is in contact with South African authorities and coordinating with Pushp’s family to facilitate the repatriation of his body. The Embassy is reportedly collecting required documents and preparing logistics for transport. The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) or equivalent local aviation regulatory bodies have reportedly been notified and have initiated a probe into the circumstances of the crash. Vulcan Aviation Institute has also stated that it will conduct an internal investigation into the aviation safety protocols surrounding the accident. Pushp hailed from Rajasthan in India and had reportedly moved to South Africa in early 2024 to pursue pilot training. He was in the advanced stages of his training, and the flight in which the crash occurred was part of his solo sorties, an essential step in pilot certification. He had recently informed his father that he was nearing completion of his flight training and looked forward to returning to India soon to join an airline. The family received the tragic news late Sunday night through an official message from the training institute. As a former student of Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Piyush was remembered by teachers and friends for his discipline, intelligence, and determination, with a lifelong passion for aviation. While South African authorities have yet to release an official report on the crash, the Vulcan Aviation Institute has assured the family that a thorough internal investigation is underway. Another Incident: Earlier on June 8, 2025, a tragic aviation accident occurred in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, when three young aspiring pilots lost their lives during a routine cross-country training flight. Despite severe weather warnings across the region, three light aircraft departed from Virginia Airport in Durban, en route to Wonderboom Airport in Pretoria. The planes were flying in loose formation with a planned refueling stop in Ladysmith. However, due to worsening weather conditions, poor visibility, and low fuel, the pilots were diverted to Greytown Airport. Two of the aircraft crashed one in a sugarcane field and the other in a timber plantation near Sevenoaks, just outside Mooi River. The third aircraft managed to land safely. Among the deceased was 22-year-old student pilot Nqobile Biyela, a promising young woman from KwaZulu-Natal. The other victims were identified as Lwazi Msane-Mchunu (22) and another unnamed individual. The survivors were identified as Shelby Baloyi and Valeri Ssemambo. The pilots faced challenges such as worsening weather conditions, poor visibility, and low fuel, leading to disorientation and the eventual crash.

Farrukhabad, India: A private jet operated by Jetserve Aviation Pvt Ltd skidded off the runway during takeoff at Mohammadabad airstrip in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad district on Thursday. All six people onboard, including two pilots and four passengers, escaped unhurt. The aircraft, registered as VT-DEZ, reportedly veered off the runway and came to rest in nearby grass after skidding for nearly 400 metres. The incident occurred around noon when the jet was preparing to depart from the unregulated airstrip. According to reports, those onboard included Ajay Arora, Deputy Managing Director of Woodpecker Greenagri Nutrients Pvt Ltd; Sumit Sharma of the State Bank of India; Rakesh Tikku, Vice President (Operations); and Manish Kumar Pandey, the company’s Uttar Pradesh project head. The flight was being piloted by Nasib Baman and Prateek Fernandes. While no injuries were reported, the aircraft sustained minor structural damage, particularly in the nose section, which appeared to have tilted into the soil following the runway excursion. Officials said that low tyre pressure may have contributed to the incident. According to NDTV, local authorities stated that the pilot was aware of reduced tyre pressure prior to takeoff but proceeded nonetheless. Officials from the district administration and the local police reached the scene shortly after the incident to inspect the site. The fire brigade was not informed in advance about the scheduled flight, and there were claims that the required treasury fees for airstrip use had not been deposited. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the runway excursion and assess whether standard safety procedures were followed. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is expected to review technical and operational aspects once the aircraft is recovered.
