Haenam County, South Korea: A Chodang University training aircraft crashed in South Korea’s South Jeolla Province on May 23, leaving a flight instructor and a trainee pilot seriously injured while conducting a short training flight between Muan International Airport and Sani Airfield. According to South Korean authorities and local media reports, the accident occurred at approximately 3:10 p.m. local time near Seokgyo-ri in Munnae-myeon, Haenam County. Emergency services said the aircraft went down in a forested area during a flight operated as part of the university’s pilot training activities. The aircraft involved was identified as a Diamond DA40NG light trainer aircraft belonging to Chodang University. The Austrian-built four-seat aircraft had departed from Muan International Airport at around 2:40 p.m. and was heading toward Sani Airfield in Haenam, located roughly 40 kilometers away. Authorities confirmed that only two people were onboard at the time of the accident: a 29-year-old flight instructor and a 24-year-old trainee pilot, both affiliated with Chodang University’s aviation training program. Fire officials stated that the trainee pilot was rescued conscious from the wreckage, while the instructor was initially found unconscious following the crash. Both sustained serious injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment. Photographs released by Jeonnam Fire Services Headquarters showed the aircraft heavily damaged after impact, with one wing nearly severed. However, authorities confirmed that no post-crash fire occurred. Investigators from South Korea’s Aviation and Railway Accident Investigation Board have launched a formal investigation into the accident. Officials are expected to examine possible operational, mechanical, environmental, and human factors that may have contributed to the crash. The Diamond DA40NG is widely used by flight schools and aviation universities around the world for pilot training due to its fuel-efficient diesel engine, modern avionics suite, and operational reliability. Chodang University operates aviation and pilot training programs as part of its aerospace and aviation education activities in South Korea.

Florida, United States: A training aircraft belonging to Florida-based flight school Aamro Aviation was involved in an emergency forced landing Friday afternoon after a reported engine malfunction caused the aircraft to crash into a field near Hobe Sound, Florida, authorities said. According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred shortly after 3 p.m. west of Interstate 95 near Hobe Sound. Deputies and Martin County Fire Rescue crews responded after the aircraft went down in an open dirt field following an apparent loss of engine power. Both occupants, a flight instructor and a student pilot survived the crash and escaped without serious injuries. The aircraft involved was identified as a 2023-built Cessna 172S Skyhawk SP registered as N294PL. The aircraft sustained “substantial damage” during the forced landing after experiencing engine power loss near Tailwinds Airport (FD15). Flight tracking data showed the aircraft departed from North Palm Beach County General Aviation Airport before the emergency unfolded. Reports indicated the airplane was operating as a training flight carrying a certified flight instructor and a student pilot at the time of the accident. Photos released from the scene showed the white single-engine aircraft heavily damaged in the field after the emergency landing. Preliminary information from investigators suggests the instructor attempted an off-airport forced landing after the engine malfunction occurred. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to investigate the incident alongside the National Transportation Safety Board to determine the exact cause of the reported engine failure and circumstances leading to the crash landing.

Nevada, United States: Two people were killed after a single-engine aircraft crashed in a remote desert area southwest of Empire, Nevada, prompting a full-scale investigation by federal aviation authorities, according to local officials. The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) confirmed that emergency crews located the wreckage approximately 7.5 miles southwest of Empire following a coordinated search operation on Sunday morning. Both occupants were found dead inside the aircraft upon discovery. Authorities said concerns were raised over a possibly missing aircraft that had earlier departed from Reno-Stead Airport, leading to the incident. The aircraft was later identified as a single-engine private plane, which failed to reach its intended destination for reasons that remain under investigation. At approximately 8:25 a.m. local time, WCSO received a request to assist in locating the aircraft after it was reported overdue. Search and rescue teams from the sheriff’s office, along with Pyramid Lake Fire crews, were deployed across the desert terrain surrounding the Empire. Within hours, responders located the downed aircraft in a remote area, where both individuals onboard were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials noted that the crash site lies in a sparsely populated desert region, where difficult terrain and limited visibility can slow aerial and ground search operations. The area southwest of Empire is known for open stretches of desert land, making it challenging to locate small aircraft wreckage without coordinated search support. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has taken charge of the formal investigation into the accident. Authorities have not yet released the cause of the crash, and it remains unclear what led the aircraft to go down shortly after departure.

Limburgerhof, Germany: Two people were killed after a small aircraft crashed into a residential neighborhood in the German municipality of Limburgerhof in Rhineland-Palatinate on May 16, authorities and local media confirmed. The crash occurred at around 11:30 a.m. local time near Max-Planck-Straße on the outskirts of Limburgerhof, a town south of Mannheim with a population of about 11,600 residents. Police said the aircraft went down on a residential property, scattering debris across houses, garages, gardens, pathways and nearby streets over a wide area. According to police spokesperson Thorsten Mischler, both occupants of the aircraft died in the crash. Authorities later confirmed the victims were male. Initial police statements said there were no confirmed injuries among residents on the ground, although German outlet Welt reported that a 66-year-old woman was slightly injured after falling while trying to escape from falling debris. Witnesses described hearing a loud bang or explosion moments before the aircraft came down. Several eyewitnesses told investigators the plane appeared to explode in mid-air before crashing into the residential area. Reports also stated the aircraft may have clipped or grazed a house during its descent. Parts of the wreckage became lodged in fences while other debris landed in front of homes and across surrounding properties. The main section of the aircraft reportedly came to rest in the garden of a residential house. Police and emergency responders launched a major operation immediately after the crash. Authorities established a large security perimeter around the site while investigators documented debris locations and examined the wreckage. A police helicopter was deployed shortly after noon to capture aerial photographs of the accident scene as part of the investigation. Investigators said the aircraft had departed earlier in the day from Aachen in western Germany. However, officials stated that both the planned route and intended destination of the flight remain under investigation. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined. Authorities also appealed to residents and property owners in the area to report any additional debris or footage connected to the incident. Police requested that discovered wreckage pieces be left untouched until they could be officially documented and collected by investigators. A temporary support and information center for affected residents and witnesses was established at the Albert-Schweitzer-Haus in Limburgerhof.

Ohio, United States: Two people were killed after a small single-engine aircraft crashed into a residential home in Akron, Ohio, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a massive fire and prompting a federal investigation into the cause of the accident. Authorities confirmed that the victims were the two occupants onboard the aircraft, while a family of four inside the house escaped safely without injuries. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft involved was a Piper PA-28 Cherokee, identified in several reports as a 1963 Piper Cherokee. The aircraft crashed into a home on Canterbury Circle at approximately 3:45 p.m. local time after departing from Akron Fulton Regional Airport, located only a few miles from the crash site. The identities of the two deceased occupants had not been officially released as of the latest updates. Authorities also have not disclosed whether the flight was private, instructional, or recreational. The Akron Fire Department said a couple and their two children were inside the residence when the aircraft slammed into the garage area of the house. All four managed to escape unharmed before flames engulfed parts of the structure. Akron Fire Department District Chief Sierjie Lash confirmed during a press briefing that no one on the ground suffered injuries. “There were a couple and two children that lived there. They were all four home, and they were able to get out with no injuries, so we're very fortunate that they are safe,” Lash said. Emergency responders initially treated the incident as a residential structure fire after receiving multiple calls reporting explosions, heavy smoke and flames. “We got a call that residents saw a plane going down into the house,” Lash said. “We got more calls that people heard explosions.” Residents in the neighborhood described hearing a loud whining sound moments before the impact. Neighbor Christi Gould said power briefly flickered before the crash. “We were sitting there, the power flickered for a few seconds, and then I heard the whining of a plane,” she said, adding that a loud explosion shook nearby homes seconds later. Another resident, Jewell Ulrich, described seeing the aircraft debris scattered between homes after the crash. “That fire was instant,” Ulrich said. “It was so hot.” Her husband, Steve Ulrich, said the aircraft’s tail section remained lodged near the garage area after the impact. Videos circulating on social media showed thick black smoke rising above the suburban neighborhood while flames consumed parts of the residence. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched an investigation into the crash. The NTSB will lead the investigation and is expected to release a preliminary report in the coming days. As of now, officials have not confirmed the cause of the accident. No distress call, mechanical failure, weather issue or pilot-related factor has yet been officially identified. Authorities also evacuated at least one neighboring home as a precaution while investigators assessed structural damage to the impacted residence.

Search teams located the wreckage between approximately 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. local time in steep, rocky terrain that responders described as difficult to access. Rescue crews reportedly had to hike nearly half a mile through mountainous conditions to reach the crash site. All four occupants were killed in the crash. Officials confirmed the victims were members of the flight crew and medical personnel involved in the transport mission. As of the latest official updates, authorities had not publicly identified the victims pending notification of their families. No patients were reported to be onboard the aircraft at the time of the accident. Lincoln County Sheriff Michael Wood described the incident as “a devastating loss,” while county officials urged the public to avoid the area to allow investigators and emergency crews to continue operations safely. Lincoln County Manager Jason Burns confirmed that the crash also triggered a wildfire that rapidly spread in dry and windy conditions. Officials said the blaze expanded to between 30 and 35 acres by midday Thursday, prompting concerns about further fire growth in the heavily forested region surrounding Lincoln National Forest. Local agencies and the U.S. Forest Service continued suppression efforts throughout the day. Speaking during a news conference, Burns said, “our hearts and prayers go out to the families, loved ones, friends and colleagues of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.” The exact cause of the crash remains unknown. Officials have not indicated any evidence of mechanical failure, weather-related causes, or pilot error at this stage of the investigation. Belo Horizonte, Brazil: A small twin-engine aircraft crashed into a residential building in the Silveira neighbourhood of Belo Horizonte on Monday, killing three of the five people onboard and injuring two others, according to Brazilian authorities. The aircraft, identified as an Embraer EMB-721C, departed from Pampulha Airport at approximately 12:16 p.m. local time, bound for São Paulo. Within minutes of takeoff, the aircraft began experiencing difficulties and remained airborne for only a short duration before losing altitude. It ultimately crashed around 12:25 p.m. into a three-storey residential building, striking a stairwell area between floors, which helped prevent casualties among residents. Authorities confirmed that three occupants died in the crash. The victims include pilot Wellington Oliveira and passenger Fernando Moreira Souto, who was the son of the mayor of Jequitinhonha. Souto was initially rescued in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The co-pilot also died, though their identity has not been officially released in primary reports. Two other passengers survived the crash and were taken to hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition. Eyewitness accounts and initial footage indicate that the aircraft appeared to be circling and descending abnormally before impact, suggesting a possible loss of power or control shortly after departure. Despite the direct collision with the building, no residents on the ground were injured, and structural damage was limited, avoiding a potentially larger disaster. Emergency responders, including firefighters, medical teams and civil defence personnel, reached the crash site within minutes. Residents of the building were evacuated as a precaution while authorities secured the area and assisted survivors. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Brazil’s Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA), along with regional unit SERIPA III and the Civil Police of Minas Gerais, have launched a formal probe. Investigators are examining possible mechanical issues, operational factors and the aircraft’s condition. In response to the incident, officials in Jequitinhonha declared three days of mourning following the death of Fernando Moreira Souto. Authorities have not yet released a final determination on what led to the crash, and investigations are ongoing.
