Mumbai, India: On the morning of November 1, 2025, a security threat email forced the diversion of IndiGo flight 6E 68, operating from Jeddah to Hyderabad. The email sent to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad alleged the presence of a “human bomb” onboard and claimed that operatives of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and Inter‑Services Intelligence (ISI) had “planned a major 1984 Madras Airport modus operandi style blast”. After receiving the threat at approximately 5:30 a.m. IST, airport authorities alerted all relevant stakeholders. The flight was diverted to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (Mumbai) where it landed safely. Following normal security protocol, checks were carried out at Mumbai and Hyderabad under cooperation of the airline and security agencies. No suspicious items or individuals were found. A case has been registered by the police and investigation is ongoing. In a statement, IndiGo confirmed receipt of the threat for flight 6E 68 from Jeddah to Hyderabad on November 1, and noted the aircraft diversion to Mumbai in consultation with authorities. The airline said it informed relevant agencies immediately and conducted appropriate security checks before resuming operations. It also stated efforts were made to minimise inconvenience to passengers, including offering refreshments and regular updates. According to aviation tracker flightradar24, the flight was to land in Hyderabad at 9.10 am, but was diverted to Mumbai after the threat. The flight took off after the checks and reached Hyderabad around 4 pm.

New Delhi, India: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a show-cause notice to IndiGo, India’s largest airline by market share, after an inspection revealed that the carrier had been using certain pilot training simulators without securing the necessary regulatory approval. According to DGCA officials, routine surveillance and compliance checks found that a few Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulators at IndiGo’s training facility were not in line with the mandatory certification standards under Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) for pilot training. These simulators are used for crucial functions such as type rating, recurrent training, and proficiency checks, all of which are mandatory for maintaining a pilot’s operational license. “The operator has been asked to explain why these devices were used for training and assessment without approval. This is a serious compliance lapse,” a senior DGCA official said on condition of anonymity. The notice gives the airline a period of seven days to respond, failing which the regulator may initiate enforcement action, including possible suspension of related training approvals. IndiGo, in an emailed statement to The Economic Times, acknowledged receiving the notice and confirmed it had “temporarily withdrawn the use of the identified simulators pending regulatory clearance.” The airline added that it is “fully cooperating with the DGCA to ensure that all training devices meet the required technical and regulatory standards.” This is not the first time the DGCA has tightened oversight on simulator usage in India’s civil aviation sector. In March 2024, the regulator grounded a simulator at another training organization over discrepancies in calibration, highlighting its zero-tolerance stance on safety compliance. Industry experts note that any gaps in simulator certification can have downstream effects on pilot preparedness and, by extension, flight safety. The DGCA has yet to announce whether further sanctions will be imposed on IndiGo. For now, the matter remains under review pending the airline’s formal response.

Gurgaon, India: A trainee pilot associated with IndiGo Airlines has filed an FIR with the DLF Phase 1 police station in Gurgaon, alleging caste-based harassment by three officials at the airline’s corporate office. The complaint includes serious accusations of verbal abuse, workplace discrimination, and professional retaliation. According to a report by The Times of India, the pilot has claimed that the officials made derogatory remarks about his caste background, including statements such as “not fit for aircraft” and “go stitch slippers.” These remarks, the complainant says, were made within office premises in a professional setting and caused significant mental distress. In addition to the verbal abuse, the pilot alleges he was subjected to unfair treatment following the incident. He claims that without justification, portions of his salary were deducted and he was asked to undergo retraining, actions he describes as targeted and retaliatory. The pilot contends these measures were not applied uniformly to others and were designed to humiliate him further. The FIR has been registered under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Gurgaon Police have confirmed that the complaint has been taken up and that an investigation is underway. Statements from involved parties and office records will reportedly be reviewed as part of the inquiry. As of now, IndiGo has not issued a public response or confirmed whether an internal investigation has been initiated. The names of the three accused have not been officially disclosed in media reports, though they have been identified in the police complaint. This incident raises broader concerns around caste-based discrimination in India's aviation and corporate sectors, where such complaints are rarely made public. The outcome of the ongoing investigation may prompt closer scrutiny of workplace conduct, grievance redressal mechanisms, and inclusivity within the airline industry.
