Manitoba, Canada: Two student pilots lost their lives in a mid-air collision involving training aircraft operated by Harv’s Air near Steinbach South Airport in the Rural Municipality of Hanover, Manitoba. The incident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. on 8 July during routine circuit training. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the aircraft involved a Cessna 152 and a Cessna 172 collided roughly 400 metres from the runway while performing training exercises involving takeoffs and landings. Emergency services responded swiftly, but both pilots ,one male and one female were pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers were on board either aircraft. The names of the deceased have not yet been released pending family notifications. Both aircraft were registered to Harv’s Air, a well-established flight training school in Manitoba. Initial information suggests that one aircraft was on final approach while the other was climbing out, likely after a touch-and-go. The school’s owner indicated the collision may have resulted from a breakdown in visual separation or communication between the two student pilots. Weather conditions were reported to be favourable at the time of the accident. There is no evidence of mechanical failure or external interference. RCMP have ruled out criminal involvement. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has launched a full investigation. Officials are analyzing flight logs, maintenance records, and any available radio communications. A team has been dispatched to the site to conduct a detailed examination of the wreckage and to interview witnesses and school personnel. Harv’s Air released a statement expressing condolences to the families and confirming that flight training operations have been suspended temporarily out of respect and to support the investigation. Previous Incident in British Columbia In a separate incident earlier this year, on April 18, 2025, a Cessna 172 operated by Principal Air crashed near Chilliwack Airport, British Columbia, during a dual training flight. Both the flight instructor and the student pilot were killed. That flight was also being conducted under daylight VFR conditions and remains under investigation by the TSB. Authorities have not indicated any systemic issues linking the crashes, but findings from both investigations may contribute to broader safety reviews across the general aviation training sector. Ohio, United States: A twin-engine Cessna 441 Conquest II crashed Sunday morning in a wooded residential area of Howland Township, Ohio, resulting in the deaths of all six people onboard. The aircraft had departed from Youngstown–Warren Regional Airport (YNG) just minutes earlier and was en route to Bozeman, Montana. Crash Occurred Minutes After Takeoff According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the aircraft departed Youngstown–Warren Regional Airport around 7:00 a.m. and lost contact shortly thereafter. The aircraft went down approximately two miles northeast of the airport, near the intersection of King Graves Road and Spring Run Road NE. The aircraft impacted a densely wooded area behind a private residence. Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Howland Fire Department, Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and hazmat units, responded to the crash site. All Six Onboard Confirmed Dead Officials confirmed that all six individuals onboard, two crew members and four passengers were killed in the crash. Their identities have not yet been publicly released, pending notification of next of kin. No survivors or injuries on the ground were reported. Trumbull County Coroner’s Office was on site to assist with recovery operations. Authorities described the crash site as “extremely difficult to access” due to heavy vegetation and the terrain surrounding the wreckage. Authorities Investigate Cause of Crash The FAA and NTSB have launched a joint investigation into the cause of the crash. According to FAA records, the aircraft was a Cessna 441 Conquest II, a pressurized twin-turboprop typically used for corporate or charter flights. An NTSB Go Team was dispatched to the scene to conduct a detailed analysis of the wreckage, flight path, pilot qualifications, and maintenance records. Investigators will also review weather data, air traffic control communications, and flight tracking information. FAA spokespersons confirmed that a preliminary report would be published in the coming days, with a full investigative report expected within several months. Anthony Trevena, Executive Director of the Western Reserve Port Authority, which oversees Youngstown–Warren Regional Airport, called it “a heartbreaking day for our aviation community.” He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and confirmed full cooperation with federal investigators. Fire Chief Raymond Pace of Howland Township described the incident as the deadliest local crash in recent memory. He noted that while no structures were impacted and no civilians on the ground were harmed, the loss of life onboard was “devastating.” The area remained cordoned off for most of Sunday as investigators secured the site and documented the scene. Fatal Crash at Ottawa Executive Airport, Michigan In a separate incident on the same day, one person was killed when a small aircraft crashed at Ottawa Executive Airport in Zeeland, Michigan. According to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and airport officials, the aircraft went down shortly after takeoff from the general aviation airport. Emergency responders arrived on the scene within minutes, but the pilot was pronounced dead at the site. No other occupants were reported. At the time of reporting, the FAA had confirmed the fatality but had not released the aircraft’s registration or pilot identity. The crash remains under investigation by local authorities in coordination with the FAA.

San Diego, United States: A tragic small plane crash off the coast of San Diego has claimed the lives of all six people on board, including the pilot and five passengers. The aircraft, a twin-engine Cessna 414, went down in the Pacific Ocean just minutes after taking off from San Diego International Airport on Sunday afternoon. According to officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft had departed from San Diego shortly after 12:30 p.m. and was reportedly en route back to Phoenix, Arizona. Moments into the flight, air traffic controllers instructed the pilot to climb to an altitude of 4,000 feet. However, flight tracking data revealed that the plane was struggling to gain altitude and remained around 1,000 feet before it rapidly disappeared from radar. Distress calls from the pilot included repeated “Mayday” alerts before the aircraft crashed into the ocean approximately three to five miles off the coast of Point Loma. Witnesses in the area reported hearing the calls over radio transmissions, and authorities confirmed that an emergency was declared shortly before the plane vanished.
